The 2011 Carnival and Silent Auction has truly been a team effort, and we are indebted to all those who have helped us along the way.
The Silent Auction Committee (Michelle Gillespie, Jennifer Brennan, Stacy Byone, and Liz Dubin) would like to thank the following for their assistance in making the Silent Auction a success:
Our Donation Solicitation team led by Hope Blackman: Kim Wurmlinger, Tanya Margetis, Melissa Williams, Yaseng Yann, Julia Tauscher, and Christina Chafe. Our Cashier team, led by Stacy Byone, including Heidi Buccholz and Carrie Holton. Sue Dunbar, Andrea Crammer, and Christy Hill for their teamwork with the Teacher Donations, Janice Vititow for her efforts with Teacher for a Day, and Terrell Frazier for her help with our item displays.

Volunteers who put in so much effort: Room Parents for staffing, decorating, and operating the booths; volunteer helpers for helping in every way imaginable; Los Alamitos High School student volunteers; US Marines for their willingness to help set up Carnival, and Cub Scouts for their willingness to help pick-up after Carnival. Great community support from Scott Durzo and the Total Sports Camp for designing and operating our relay course, Consolidated Disposal, and the Sun Newspaper for always helping the school. We, the 2011 Carnival Committee, are grateful to you all, for we could never do this without you amazing parent volunteers of McGaugh Elementary. We are nothing without you!

Rules and Procedures
Auction Hours
We will be opening on Friday, October 28th starting at 12:30 and continuing until 3pm in the gymnasium. Children are welcome to tell you what they want; however, they may NOT write on a bid sheet. The auction continues on Saturday, October 29th starting at 10am; the closing of auction items will begin at 2pm for all items.
Auction Bidding and How It Works
Bid sheets will be displayed for all auction items. The bid sheet contains the description along with the Retail Value, Buy-It-Now Price, and a Minimum Bid with the Bid Increment.
1. Traditional bidding can be done on all items at all sessions and bid increments must be followed. Traditional bidding will continue until the auction tables close on Saturday at 2:00.
2. The Buy-It-Now procedure is very simple. a. When you find an item for which you are willing to pay the Buy-It-Now price,
legibly write your name, phone number, and the Buy-It-Now price on the bid sheet. Pick up the bid sheet and give it to the cashier. You can never have more than 3 Buy-It-Now bid sheets in your hand.
b. Once you give the bid sheets to the cashier, it is binding. The cashier will start to prepare your receipt for check-out. You can continue shopping and check out all at once.
c. DO NOT REMOVE THE ITEM FROM THE TABLE. That comes later… see “ f ” below
d. Buy-It-Now purchases supercede any previous auction bids for that item. e. In the event that two people are willing to pay the Buy-It-Now price for an
item at the same time, an auction official will go to a sealed bid during which the interested parties place their highest bid.
f. You may remove the item from the table once you have a paid yellow receipt. Items purchased must be picked up by the end of each auction session.

Silent Auction Rules
1. ONLY ADULTS MAY BID. CHILDREN ARE NOT PERMITTED TO WRITE ON ANY BID SHEET. Bids written by persons under the age of 18 will be disqualified.
2. Disqualification will take place if writing is not legible. 3. No bid will be accepted after the section is closed on Saturday beginning at 2:00 pm. 4. Auction leaders have the right to set all prices which for most items begin at
approximately 75% of retail value for the minimum bid and 200% of retail for the Buy-It-Now price. Only Auction officials can set or modify prices.
5. Bid increments must be followed. Failure to follow bid increments will result in a disqualification of the bid.
6. Items must be picked up at the end of each session unless special arrangements are made with an auction official. The Auction Officials have the authority to resell any unclaimed items.
7. In an event of a dispute, an Auction Official will conduct a sealed bid. 8. ALL SALES ARE FINAL-There are no exchanges or refunds on the items purchased
except when noted. Items are sold “as is.” The item descriptions and values are as accurate as possible. The Auction Committee and McGaugh PTA make no warranties or guarantees of any kind with respect to the items sold. All items have been donated in good faith. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO EXCHANGE OR RETURN MERCHANDISE.
9. The California state PTA is a tax-exempt nonprofit organization as described in Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. This exemption applies to all the California State PTA constituent organization. McGaugh PTA Tax ID: 95-6207369.
10. If the winning bid is higher than the fair market value, the difference in amounts may be deductable as a charitable donation. Please check with the IRS or your tax consultant before claiming any tax deduction.
11. Tax and tip are not included in gift certificates and expire in one year, unless otherwise specified.
12. It is the responsibility of the purchaser to contact the seller to make detailed arrangements regarding personal services and redeem the item within one year, unless otherwise indicated by the donator.
