Saint Jude School Weekly Memo - Volume 21, issue 05 September 29, 2017 SAINTLY NEWS Please save the date for our first HSA meeng for this school year on Wednesday, October 11th, at 6:30 pm in Mt. Carmel Hall. Following, at 7:00 pm, we will have our Parenng with Passion parents meeng with Fr. John as our guest speaker. Fr. John will speak on the importance of encountering Jesus, engaging Jesus and being transformed. Don’t miss it! CONGRATULATIONS to our seventh grade students who have qualified to parcipate in the highly selecve Duke University Talent Idenficaon Program (TIP). This is an academic talent search for those seventh grade students who have scored over the ninety-fiſth percenle in recent grade level standardized tesng. They are: Caleb Berent, Shelby Bianchi, MariaLaura Espillat, Stefan Lupu, Julian Sader, Sophia Taylor, Grace Tychensen. “Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your father in heavenMa. 5:16 It was a delicious day on Wednesday in Pre-K4, because we made DONUTS!! Our lile bakers shaped their dough into a circle and poked a hole through. The teachers then cooked the donuts. Of course the best part was decorang and eang our creaons!! What a yummy way to study the leer Dd!!! The Circus Animals in Pre-K3 had a roaring good me parading through the school entertaining everyone with their amazing talents. Monkeys danced, elephants pranced, and the lions and gers jumped through hoops delighng all that saw them! Lions, Tigers, Elephants, & Monkeys OH MY - A Parade Of Animals Just Went By!!!! Have you heard of the American legend John Chapman? This man, otherwise known as Johnny Appleseed, was a kind, generous, and religious man who traveled throughout Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana and what is now West Virginia, planng apple seeds. In social studies, we learned that he had a passion for apples, enjoyed the outdoors and loved animals. Our Kindergartners created their own special Appleseed and wrote a fact about the life of John Chapman. Apples here, apples there…apples, apples everywhere! We have been learning all we can about apples this week. We focused on the apple life cycle, the parts of the apple and even had an apple taste test! Our 5th grade buddies joined us for some apple fun on Tuesday. Together we shared some apple informaon as well as creang an apple mystery picture. It was a fantasc week to be in 1B!! Monday, our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade aſter school Wring Clubs joined together to make cards for Father Romaeus. Our school family hopes the cards and prayers will help him to heal, and return to us. We all miss his sweet smiles and beauful floral arrangements. Journey through space in the west annex hallway! See the fabulous solar system models that fourth grade has created and read their planet reports. Great job Fourth Grade- your projects are out of this world! SJPII Academy 8th Grade Shadow Program: SJPII Academy invites 8th Grade students to spend a full or half day on SJPII Academy’s campus shadowing freshmen. They are asked to sign up at least on week prior to the date they select. Shadow dates for the fall include: October 4th and 18th and November 16th and 29th. For more informaon, please go to: hp:// www.sjpii.net/admissions/sf.cfm. "Pick up" yesterday by Mrs. Dages and the Islamorada Beer Company for delivery to - The Basilica School - in Key West. What a tremendous opportunity for the children to see, and be part of, such a beauful gospel experience/acon. Thank you, Mr. Herrera, Islamorada Beer Company ,for delivering for us! 5B had a great me with their 1st Grade buddies this week. They helped them with their Johnny Apple Seed Project and shared stories while eang snacks together. In science, the 5th graders have been learning about space exploraon, Newton's Laws of Moon and rockets. They had a blast watching their paper straw rockets go! Antonio Guerrez grandfather of Lucas (4B) went to heaven on September 12th in Cali, Colombia. He will be missed very much. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. They conducted science experiments, such as which environment will an apple last the longest?, made homemade applesauce, taste tested several apple products, and compared and contrasted their data. A stem acvity was included this week too… Which scienst can build the tallest tower out of cut-up apple pieces? The Fall Fesval is fast approaching and they need your help. They are looking for volunteers for the Fall Fesval and Ron Towery, their Volunteer Coordinator, will be available aſter school in the coming weeks for sign up opportunies. The next Protecng God's Children for Adults Workshop is being held at St. Vincent Ferrer Church (Delray Beach) on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at 7:00 PM. All of the girls are starng to move toward every ball on defense and our serve consistency is up. Boys' Flag football is fighng and compeng on every play to get beer. Our understanding of the game is on the rise and we look to improve each game. Be on the lookout for Boys' soccer tryouts and girls' basketball tryouts coming soon, TBA. GO SAINTS!

Girls' Volleyball continues to work hard and get better with every match. All of the girls are starting to move toward every ball on defense and our serve consistency is up.

Boys' Flag football is fighting and competing on every play to get better. Our understanding of the game is on the rise and we look to improve each game.
