Welcome Home to Healing Reconciliation on Monday Nights Throughout Lent

Catholics in the Diocese of Paterson, especially those who have been away from the Church, are invited to experience God’s healing love and forgiveness through the Sacrament of Reconciliation during Lent. Catholic churches in Morris, Sussex and Passaic Counties will be open for Confession every Monday, starting March 11, 2019 to April 8, 2019 from 7:00 PM-8:30 PM.

The Knights of Columbus will be hosting the "Our Lady of Persecuted Christians"

icon at St. Jude's Church.

Sunday, April 7th from 2 PM until 4 PM and Wednesday, April 10th from 7 PM

until 9 PM. A short prayer service will start each ses-sion with viewing and silent prayer after-

wards.

First Reading: Genesis 15:5-12, 17-18 God told Abram that he would give him the land of Egypt and his descendants would become a great peo-ple. Abram then made sac-rifices to God, cutting them in half. A torch passed be-tween the pieces, as a visi-ble sign to Abram of God's promise. Second Reading: Philippians 3:17—4:1 Paul urges the Philippians to avoid becoming too inter-ested in material posses-sions. He reminds them that

their most important wealth is their faith in Jesus, which will lead them to eternal life. Gospel: Luke 9:28b-36 Jesus took Peter, John and James to a mountain to pray. When his clothes grew incredibly white, Mo-ses and Elijah appeared. They spoke of the scripture he was to fulfill. Then a cloud came down and a voice said, "This is my Son, my Chosen One. Listen to him." The disciples who had seen Jesus' glory did not disclose this experience to anyone until much later.

Fresh Commitment to Life… Cardinal Justin Rigali, in the an-nual Mass for Life in Washing-ton DC in 2007, commented on the Roe vs. Wade decision that legalized abortion on January 22, 1973. He called it a “misguided use of judicial power exercised in the name of the au-thority resting in the people of the United States of America.” He went on to say, “Each pass-ing year confirms us in the pain of recognizing the violence in-

flicted upon millions and millions of unborn children and even partially born children in our land. It is important that this truth be acknowledged, that re-pentance be sincere, and that effective means be taken to stop this grotesque tragedy, while

preventing it from being repeat-ed in the future. At the same time each passing year confirms us in new hope for the future. As people of prayer, we are moved by the words of Saint Paul, who says: "...we have set our hope on the living God" (1 Tim 4:10). The word of God and His com-mandments encourage us in our efforts, and they certainly inspire the rising generation to form new attitudes and assume a fresh commitment to the cause of life.”

“Brothers and sisters, join with others in being witness-es of me, and observe those who conduct themselves ac-cording to the model you have in us… but our citizen-ship is in heaven, and from it we also await a savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.” Saint Paul had no trouble in en-couraging others to follow his example, clearly saying ‘do as I do, and do as I say.’ Many would hesitate to offer such a directive. The mount of transfiguration

and Paul’s witness can assist us in our commitment to Christ and the church, especially in these moments of scandal and discouragement. Paul knew what he was about and invited others to be part of his mission. His invitation is extended to us, as we join with Peter, James, and John, to experience the love of the Father and His affir-mation of His Son. We descend from the mountain aware of God’s love and our ongoing journey to Calvary and resurrec-tion.

“Pivotal Players” Bishop Barron

Tuesday 7PM in the Parish Center Join us as we continue to hear from Bishop Barron about the next two “Pivotal Players”: those saints, artists, mystics, and scholars who not only shaped the life of the Church but changed the course of western civilization. This new program will feature St. Augustine, the Teacher, and St. Benedict, the Monk.

St. Augustine is arguably the best example of how faith in Christ can change a person. And without St. Benedict, the Christian culture of the west might have perished after the fall of the Roman Empire. So, please register for this study program and walk with Bishop Barron as he traces the lives and contributions of these two pivotal saints. For more information, please con-tact Manny Fernandes at [email protected] or stop by the parish office.

Please support the Rosary Altar Society by choosing us as your charity on Amazon Smile. It is easy and free.
