Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time Page Three

Dear Parishioners: As you read this week’s letter the historic visit of Pope Francis to our part of the world is now history. My hope and prayer is that his visit has brought not only excitement for the moment but a conversion of hearts that will carry us for decades to come. The Holy Father has called the church to renewal and rebirth in the Word and Spirit of the living Christ in the Gospel and in our world. He has highlighted Jesus’ message of inclusiveness and forgiveness and mercy for the poor and the outcast. In our Gospel today Jesus reminds us that anyone who speaks or acts in a just manner towards his sister or brother is doing the work of God. If one is for us they cannot be against us. The Holy Father has called on the world to end systemic poverty by the year 2030. We know that this is a reachable goal and one that ought to be a priority in all of our lives. We all must do our part in the days and months ahead to live out the Gospel command to care for those in need. As the month of September comes to an end we look forward to all the Fall has to offer. We are especially excited about our Feast of St. Therese, which will take place next Friday and Saturday. Please plan to support the parish by attending the feast. The relics of St. Therese and her parents will be visiting the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark on October 17th. Have a Blessed week. With Love,

Fr. Sam
