A Message From The Pastor
Here are a few more parish updates as summer winds down:
We will have no weekday Masses or Adoration this week, August 10-13. I will be away, and was unable to find any priest to cover for me. Additionally, the parking lot and driveway will be sealed and re-striped on Tuesday and Wednesday, which means parking is only available in the front gravel lot on those days. Parking will be back to normal for the weekend.
Our usual extraordinary form Latin Mass cannot be offered on August 14. As you may have heard, the pope recently restricted the celebration of Mass according to the 1963 Missal. This Mass is commonly called the “Tridentine Mass,” the “Traditional Latin Mass,” or the “Extraordinary Form.” Among the restrictions, priests must receive permission from their bishop to celebrate Mass in this form. Such Masses are not permitted to take place in a parochial church, which apparently means in the main church of a parish, although the bishop can dispense this requirement. I am currently seeking permission from the bishop and making arrangements to celebrate the extraordinary form Mass for the West Toledo region. I will let you know more when plans are made.
Swanton Health Care nursing home is open to receive visits from Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. Some restrictions apply, including wearing masks while visiting. Our homebound are also in need of visits to receive communion. If you are an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, please consider adding your name to either the nursing home or homebound schedule by contacting Claudia in the parish office. If you are not trained yet, contact me. I am making arrangements to celebrate monthly Mass at Swanton Health Care again, but I do not know when this will be possible. I am leaning toward having Mass there on Mondays, since we have nothing scheduled in the parish that day. Swanton Valley remains closed to all visitors.
I have had to increase my time at the tribunal to three days a week due to our heavy workload and reduced staff. I will now be there on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Tuesday will be my primary day for parish business. Friday after Mass will become my new day of rest.

“Get up and eat or the journey will be too much for you!” 1 KINGS 19:7 God knows that committing to a stewardship lifestyle is difficult. However, we were not designed to do it on our own, we need His help. Fortunately, God gave us the greatest gift of all, His son, Jesus. Through the gift of the Eucharist we join our sacrifice with the sacrifice of the Holy Mass and receive the strength and courage to be His joyful disciples.

Saying Yes
“Let us pray to the Lord that He may never permit
us to shut the ears of our hearts to His voice that
is speaking to us today.” - Saint Pio of Pietrelcina.
Please consider using your Eucharistic abilities to
serve our parish by taking the Eucharist to our
sick and elderly. They look forward to these
visits, and I know they are very disappointed
when no one comes. Please, we help us with
this ministry.
There are about 7 homebound on our list.
Assistance by a regular minister on Saturdays or
Sundays after Mass is needed.
There is also a need for more people to take the
Eucharist to Swanton Health Care on Munson Rd
Call Charlene Karamol 419-966-5812, for any
interest you have for this ministry.

Choosing Christ in the World (Nineteenth Annotation)
by Sister Joanne Mary Frania, SND
Choosing Christ in the World is a retreat that allows the individual to follow his/her faith journey with help from the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola without leaving the reality of the ordinary daily life. It requires a commitment to one hour of prayer daily using the materials provided and a weekly one-on-one meeting with the spiritual director over about a nine-month period.
For more information, call Sister Joanne Mary Frania, SND at 419-913-9851 by August 23.
