Ireland, Saint Patrick.• Also known as Paddy’s Day or Patrick’s Day.• Celebrated by Irish people or people who

have Irish ancestry.

Saint Patrick• Born in Roman Britain in the 4th

century.• He used a shamrock to explain

about the Christian doctrine of the Trinity – The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit.

• He died on 17th March 461 and is considered as the principal champion of Irish Christianity.

• He also got rid of all the snakes on the island of Ireland.

• St. Patrick’s Day is a national holiday for the people of Ireland.

• Everyone is proud to be Irish on this day.

• On St. Patrick’s Day it is a tradition to wear the national colours of green, white and orange, and some shamrock.

Festival

• The St. Patrick’s Festival lasts all week in Ireland with different parties held all over the island.

• Traditional Irish music and dancing are held in different concert halls and people have the ‘craic’ all week.

• The big event of the week is the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

• Bands, dancers, artistic groups and many more walk throughout the streets on Dublin in this colourful event.
