THANK YOUOnce again we were very blessed to hear two of our young couples witness to their faith this past week-end. I thank Jamie and Jessi Oakland and Erika and Chris Peterson for their moving testimo-nies. Their stories were very inspiring and a true witness to what the Holy Spirit is doing in our midst. Let us hold them in prayer as they continue their min-istries on behalf of our children, teens, music, worship and leadership.

CONGRATULATIONSTo our eighth grader class of Saint Michael Parish School and to all our high school seniors, congratulations on your achievements. Let us hold them in prayer as they take their next steps into high school, college, the Armed Forces and other endeavors. May Saint Michael be their protector

and intercessor.

APOLOGIESI apologize for some mistakes in last week’s bulletin about our Mass schedule. With Fr. Cody away and numerous other obligations, I was unable to be present for every daily Mass. We had planned for this, but unfortunately it did not make it into the bulletin. We will be double checking to make sure we have the correct informa-tion each week. Thank you for your understanding.

NEW OPPORTUNITIES

As you are aware, Terry Walter our parish admin-istrator is retiring after 14 years with Saint Michael Parish and over 30+ years of ministry with various parishes throughout the archdiocese. I have asked Chris Peterson to become the new parish administra-tor. Though this is a new challenge, Chris brings a wealth of experience in ministry and has been working with Terry to make a smooth transition. Terry will be available as a consultant to mentor Chris.

As a result we have two position openings: Steward for Life Teen and Young Adults and Steward for Faith Formation. Both of these positions

are fulltime with bene-fits. Please see the job descriptions in the bulle-tin. If you are interested, or know someone who might be, please have them con-tact the parish office for further information and an application form.

LAST CHANCEThis weekend is the last opportunity to sign up for the celebration dinners, Friday and Saturday, June 16 and 17. They are com-plementary and are meant for all parishioners as we celebrate all that God has done here at Saint Michael Parish, what God is pres-ently doing in our midst and what God is calling us to in the future. Please join Fr. Cody, our special guest Fr. Treacy, myself and many of your fellow parishioners at these excit-ing events. The theme is Building the Kingdom so come dressed in builder attire. Hardhats, work boots and safety vests are appropriate. Come join the excitement and the fun. There is still plenty of room in the children’s parties.

SEMINARIANSWe are blessed this summer with the pres-ence of two of our Seattle seminarians, Thomas Tran and Ben Brey. They are both presently studying

at Mount Angel Seminary. This summer they are at St. Peter Hospital in a pastoral care training program. Because of their busy schedule, we may only see them every now and then. Once they finish, Ben will return to seminary and Thomas will remain with us at Saint Michael for his pastoral year. Let us welcome them with open arms and most of all, let us pray for them that they may persevere in their call to priesthood. Let us also pray for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and reli-gious life.

EXCITING NEW DEVELOPMENTMany of you know Fr. Tuan Nguyen. He has been chaplain for our Vietnamese commu-nity for many years and is a friend of mine. He is presently pastor of Sacred Heart and St.

MASS SCHEDULE & INTENTIONS

Pastor's Notebook, cont.

Ann parishes in Tacoma. Sacred Heart Parish has been struggling to build a multipurpose religious education center. After having spoken with Fr. Tuan and their architect, we have been able to devise a plan to assist them. The Westside Chapel has a series of folding walls that were intended to be used often. Unfortunately, they have been used only for Vacation Bible School which now is located on our downtown campus. As a cost-saving mea-sure, the architect is designing their center around the folding walls that we will give to them as a stewardship gift so that they can complete their center. It is my hope and desire that our gen-erosity in the Faithraising Campaign will enable us to assist in the cost of dis-mantling and shipping the walls. The original wall system cost $220,000. Fr. Tuan is very excited about this possibility and is praying for our Faithraising Campaign. Let us give thanks for the many years of service that Fr. Tuan has given.

FAITHRAISING COMMITMENTSI ask that you please take time this coming week to pray about your financial

commitment to the Faithraising Campaign over the next three years. This extraordinary stew-ardship is in response to the needs and the chal-lenges that we face as a growing community. This commitment is meant to be over and above our regular Sunday offering. The cover of the bulle-tin offers the four-step method of discernment:

1. Have I really prayed about giving until I have received an answer from God?

2. Will this truly be sac-rificial for my family; will it rearrange my priorities; what will give up for the Lord?

3. Am I willing to be obedient to the will of God, accepting this major challenge to my faith and rising to a higher standard of giving sacrificially?

4. Does my hear t respond with joy to my giving sacrificially at this level?

Those who are unable to attend the celebra-tion dinners, will have an opportunity to make your commitments at the Sunday Masses. Let us hold one another in prayer.

In Christ I love you,

A PERSONAL TESTIMONY ON THE POWER OF THE SACRAMENTSRecently I went to Mass with my mom. It just happened to be an anointing Mass. Since she is 85, she always gets anointed when it is offered.  I was going to just stay back and pray for those being anointed. My mom, however, had different ideas. She knew my shoulder had been both-ering me for 6 months and no treatment had helped it. But this is not a serious illness, so I figured the anointing should be saved for more important things. My mom insisted and was starting to cause a fuss, so eventually I thought it was better to just go up in the line, rather than distract the people in the pews anymore!  As I went forward I entered into prayer. Reflecting, I thought I needed more heal-ing mentally and emotionally, as I had been so stressed in my new role as caregiver and trying to please many people in many of the roles in my life. I had been reduced to going through the motions

and trying hard to put on a cheerful face, but just feeling run-down inside. After the anointing, I felt so great about receiving sacra-mental grace. But it wasn’t until a few days later that I found myself laughing uncon-trollably at something silly. I realized just how much hap-pier I had been the past few days, laughing and making jokes. I was really finding joy in the small things – authen-tic joy, not fabricated for the benefit of another. I looked back and really feel it was the sacramental grace that restored my joy. And I am so grateful to feel fully alive again. Besides that, I soon had another appointment about my shoulder. This time, the therapy worked wonders within days and I enjoyed a full afternoon of volleyball last weekend! God is good, all the time!

ANOINTING OF THE SICKIn the Church's Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick, through the ministry of the priest, it is Jesus who touches the sick to heal them from sin – and

sometimes even from phys-ical ailment. His cures were signs of the arrival of the Kingdom of God. The core message of his healing tells us of his plan to conquer sin and death by his dying and rising. The Rite of Anointing tells us there is no need to wait until a person is at the point of death to receive the Sacrament. A careful judgment about the serious nature of the illness is sufficient. When the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is given, the hoped-for effect is that, if it be God's will, the person be physically healed of ill-ness. But even if there is no physical healing, the primary effect of the Sacrament is a spiritual healing by which the sick person receives the Holy Spirit's gift of peace and courage to deal with the difficulties that accompany serious illness or the frailty of old age. We routinely offer Anointing of the Sick at the 9 am Mass on the first Saturday of every month.

"After the anointing, I felt so great about receiving sacramental grace."

Dear Father Lee,

On behalf of our sisters and brothers on the mar-gins in this country and throughout the world, we acknowledge your faith community's generous donation of $5,456.40 for the March, 2017 Catholic Relief Services Collection.

Our donations put faith into action by supporting six Catholic internationally-focused organizations (www.usccb.org/crscollection). These agencies provide help to immigrants, humanitarian aid in the wake of natural disasters, refuge for the displaced, and advocacy for peace and justice around the world. Your community is responding to Jesus in the disguise of suffering people each day, every day of the year.

"Biblical revelation urges us to welcome the stranger; it tells us that in so doing, we open our doors to God, and that in the faces of others we see the face of Christ himself" - Pope Francis

In God's peace,Your Missions Office

Through your generous stewardship, Saint Michael Parish is able to provide a sizeable donation for all the national col-lections administered through the archdiocesan Missions Office. Instead of taking a second collection, we tithe 10% of our offertory for these national collections on the weekends they occur.Below is a note we received from the Missions Office for the March Catholic Relief Services collection. Thank you for your incredible generosity!

SMALL GROUPS – THEY'RE NOT JUST FOR LENT AND ADVENT! Life is not meant to be lived alone. Our faith is a faith of com-munity, meant to be shared as we grow in love of God and one another. We are nurtured in our small groups, an envi-ronment where we feel safe and able to talk about the most difficult issues in our lives. The small group model has been the catalyst that has taken countless seekers and formed them into true disciples as they experience a growth in faith like never before.Having a vibrant and growing small group community is not only a pastoral priority, it's one of the major goals of the SMP Strategic Plan. Catholics engaged in faithful and faith-filled small groups are Catholics on fire for the faith. It's as simple as that. Many small groups continue to meet year round and are open to new members, and we'd certainly love to grow the number of groups meeting year round. Want to form a group and start an amazing journey? Want to plug in to an existing group? No matter where you are in life, there's a group for you.Check out our website to get connected or contact Michaela Moreau to find a good fit: [email protected].

The Teen Mentor minis-try began two years ago at Saint Michael Parish through Faith Alive in the Home and Sacramental Preparation. We were also blessed to have Claire Keith as our adult leader, and Alondra Patron and Abre Peters, teens from within the parish, sharing their talents.
