It’s about love. It’s about life. It’s about freedom. It’s about gift.
Faith and Works Do Catholics believe that they can “work their way into heaven?” Let’s put it this way… if they think that they can get into heaven, by any means, apart from Christ Jesus, they are completely wrong, and not truly Catholic. Since it was founded by Jesus nearly 2000 years ago, the Catholic Church has always taught that without faith in Jesus, there is no salvation. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states it very clearly. In paragraph 161 it ways, “Believing in Jesus Christ, and in the One who sent Him for our salvation, is necessary for obtaining that salvation.” And again in paragraph 181 “Faith is necessary for salvation.” It then quotes Jesus’ words from Mark 16:16. The Church has never taught that a person can get to heaven solely on the basis of their good works. But do works play a role in out salvation? According to the Scriptures they do. James 2:24 says, “See how a man is justified by works and not by faith alone.” The Scriptures speak again and again about how we will be judged on the basis of our works. But no amount of works, apart from faith in Christ, will do us any good. Our salvation is “by grace, through faith, working in love.” Taken from A Minute in the Church (Volume II, The Mass, Life in Christ, Back to the Basics) by Gus Lloyd. Copies are available at www.GusLloyd.com.
PROTECTION OF CHILDREN AND VULNERABLE ADULTS

MOVING OUT OF THE AREA? Please notify our Parish Office if you are moving out of the area. This allows us to take your family off our rolls and not send mail unnecessarily. This simple step saves our church money and like most of you, we do clip coupons. Keep in mind that if you are moving, it takes two months to place envelopes on hold or take them off the rolls. Equally, it takes two months for the envelope company to begin to issue envelopes. CHURCH COURTESY AND ETIQUETTE As “business casual” has become the dress code in some workplaces, it is becoming more difficult to decide whether dressing up for Sunday Mass is necessary. Liturgy is the Lord’s inclusive banquet, but it is neither a “state dinner” nor a “beach picnic.” So what is an appropriate dress code? Thought, charity and flexibility are required by all parishioners, lest looking at how people dress becomes the near occasion of sin called “judging”. Choose clothing that will not be distracting to you or others. Modesty should be taken into account. Err on the side of dressing up, not down. Since we gather in God’s house and the banquet table of Jesus Christ, how we are dressed can reflect our reverence and humility before the Lord. Presume that most people will wear their better, more appropriate, clothing and do likewise. Of course, those serving in a ministry should take care to dress appropriately since they have chosen to take a role in the sacred liturgy.
HURRICANE PRAYER God our Father, Creator of the Universe and Lord over all creation, we humbly stand before you as your children in thanksgiving for your loving care and protection. We ask that you keep us safe from all hurricanes which may threaten us in the coming seasons. Protect us from all fear and anxiety of storms and give us an ardent trust and hope in Your love and mercy. You alone have the power to command the sea, the wind and the rain. You alone bring peace, calm, and safety. Father, we thank you in advance, for you are our only Refuge. We ask this through Christ Your Son, Who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever. Amen.
LAPTOPS FOR FRANCISCAN SEMINARY
IN VENEZUELA
This campaign aims to collect used “laptops”, but in good condition, to enable a computer room for the Franciscan Missionary Seminary “San José” in Táchira, Venezuela. In this seminary there are around 25 young people who are being formed to be Franciscan Friars. We will receive your laptop donations in the parish office Monday through Friday, from 8:30 AM to 4:15 PM. If you have questions call (772) 878-1215. We would greatly appreciate your support!
A REMINDER Please do not bring food or drinks into the church to eat. It is messy and worse yet, damages carpets and fabric on pews. The interior of the church was completed only one year ago, and we need many more years out of the revisions. Especially troublesome are baby bottles. Please do feed your infant but take the child into the narthex or rotunda to do so. Then, return to your pew. Thank you for understanding.
Summer Vacation As children begin their summer vacation, parents are reminded that it is important for families to attend church on Sundays. It is never a good idea to take time away from our Lord! Parents are encouraged to teach their children new prayers. Your efforts will be rewarded!
