If possible, try to participate in one of our Masses to join fellow worshipers in praying for them.

2020 Diocesan Services Appeal - St. Lucie Parish Goal: $199,000

To date, we have 461 donors donating $130,291 in cash and pledges.

Even if we aren’t gathering together for Masses, there is still an important way we can stay informed regarding church happenings. Use Flocknote. It is FREE and easy. Just follow the following directions: Go on the St. Lucie Church website – www.stlucie.cc – and click onto the Flocknote icon on the home page. This is an easy way to join our St. Lucie site and stay informed.

These are tremulous times! The appearance of Coronavirus and the effects on our lives is something that we have never seen. Without a community of worship within the church building there are few ways to economically support St. Lucie. Some parishioners have signed on to “Online Giving.” This is tremendously appreciated because our church continues to operate (even without parishioners gathering together for Mass) and bills continue to pile. Please do the right thing and continue to support St. Lucie through your offerings. If you desire to mail in a check(s), please use the following address only:

St. Lucie Catholic Church 425 SW Irving Street Port St. Lucie, FL 34983

TIME TO SPARE? We are most appreciative to everyone who stays home, safe from passing on this horrible virus. By now we are all “antsy” waiting for the moment when sanctions are lifted. In the meantime, how many of us are planning for the future? Remember those days when we would tell ourselves that we would get to a project once we have some spare time on our hands? Wait no longer! Write that family letter to someone who would thrill at receiving meaningful mail. Clean your closet saving for the needy the best of clothing you will not need. Play with your children or perhaps guide them in baking something for the family. Clean your home or rid it of all the unnecessary items you stow in your garage. The old adage, “Less is more” also unclutters your mind. Put this “down time” to good productive use. Most of all, pray! God hears every prayer and this is certainly a time when we should all be calling on His intervention. Stay calm and be well.

from our mistakes and failures.

Advance Care/End of Life Documents & Guides From the Florida Conference of Catholic Bishops:

The Florida Catholic Conference of Bishops provides resources to assist with advance care planning. Designating a health care surrogate and providing guidance for end-of-life decisions is the best way to ensure that morally acceptable procedures are followed if you become incapacitated or unable to express your own wishes in the event of a medical emergency.

Three items, approved by the bishops of Florida are particularly useful:

• A Catholic Introduction to End-of-Life Planning is a brochure to assist you as you begin your discussions with family, friends, health care providers and clergy.

• The Catholic Declaration on Life and Death (CDLD)combines a designation of health care surrogate and living will into one document and is designed to be completed and shared with your health care provider(s).

• Understanding the Catholic Declaration on Life and Death (UCDLD) is the companion to the CDLD and addresses common concerns and questions.

All the documents are available in both English and Spanish and are available for downloading and printing from the FCCB website: https://www.flacathconf.org/declaration-on-life-and-death

THE WEEK AHEAD Monday, April 27, 2020 through

Sunday, May 3, 2020 All activities at St. Lucie Parish have been cancelled until further notice! Continue to pray so that the Coronavirus is no longer a threat.

PARISH RECORDS We need your help to keep our records current. If there are any births, deaths, marriages, moves, changes in phone numbers or email addresses, etc. in your family, please notify the Parish Office at 772-878-1215.

ADORATION OF THE BLESSED

SACRAMENT Eucharistic Adoration is the adoration of Jesus Christ present in the Holy Eucharist. A consecrated host, the Holy Eucharist, is placed in a special container attached within a standing cross called a “Monstrance.” The cross reminds us of Christ’s love given for mankind’s sins so that we might have eternal life. The Holy Eucharist is Jesus Christ and although it does not look like

the body and blood of Jesus, His Real Presence is hidden within the appearance of the consecrated host. This is a great mystery, something we are not capable of fully rationalizing but we know it to be truth. People come in reverence to pray and worship before the Holy Eucharist on display for certain hours and/or specified days. Once we get the “all clear” for activities to resume at our church, we will have Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament every Thursday and every First Friday of the Month in the church after the 8:30 AM. Mass and this continues until 5:00 PM ending with Benediction on Thursdays and First Fridays. We also display the Monstrance at other specified times. Always, there is a sign-up sheet for those desiring to commit themselves in prayer and in presence of the Blessed Sacrament. Usually, we sign our names for an hour designating that we will be present. This is done never to have Jesus left alone!

PROTECTION OF CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE

The Catholic Diocese of Palm Beach is committed to the safety and protection of all children and vulnerable adults in its care. Victims of abuse are encouraged to contact the Diocesan Victim Assistance Coordinator to begin necessary emotional, psychological and spiritual healing. The Diocese of Palm Beach Victim Assistance Coordinator, Ms. Theresa Fretterd, can be reached at 561-801-0999. For more information on Diocesan policies and procedures for reporting abuse as well as to view the USCCB Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People, please go to www.diocesepb.org and click on Offices/Safe Environments. Your kindness bestowed on others is a gift you give.

WHY IS EASTER SEASON

50 DAYS LONG? Easter for Christians is not just one day, but rather a 50-day period. The season of Easter, or Eastertide, begins at sunset on the eve of Easter and ends on Pentecost, the day we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit and the birth of the Church (see Acts 2). Easter is also more than just an extended celebration of the resurrection of Jesus. In the early church, Lent was a season for new converts to learn about the faith and prepare for baptism on Easter Sunday. The initial purpose of the 50-day Easter season was to continue the faith formation of new Christians. Today, this extended season gives us time to rejoice and experience what it means when we say Christ is risen. It’s the season when we remember our baptisms and how through this sacrament we are, according to the liturgy, “incorporated into Christ’s mighty acts of salvation.” As “Easter people,” we also celebrate and ponder the birth of the Church and gifts of the Spirit (Pentecost), and how we are to live as faithful disciples of Christ.

MOVING OUT OF THE AREA? Please notify our Parish Office if you are moving out of the area. This allows us to take your family off our rolls and not send mail unnecessarily. This simple step saves our church money and like most of you, we do clip coupons. Keep in mind that if you are moving as a part-time parishioner, it takes two months to place envelopes on hold or take them off the rolls. Equally, it takes two months for the envelope company to begin to issue envelopes.

TRIBUTE TO A LOVED ONE St. Lucie Parish offers beautiful certificates for contributions to our St. Lucie Kitchen for all donations of $25 or more. Your donation may be made in the name of another (living or deceased) for an anniversary, birthday, wedding, commemorative special occasion, or a memorial. St. Lucie Kitchen feeds families in need every Thursday. This ministry is essential and people depend on us. When needing to purchase a gift please consider giving a beautiful certificate while helping support our kitchen! Stop by the Parish Office. Memory is what tells you that you know the guy but

it doesn’t tell you his name!

~~~~~~ ♦♦♦♦ ~~~~~ La presencia de Dios nos puede asustar por los prejuicios que tenemos, sin embargo, de Él salen las palabras «No teman, Soy yo en persona…» Pero antes dice: «La paz esté con ustedes» Dios sabe que todos los días pasamos tormentas, sea porque sentimos que no somos lo suficientemente buenos como deberíamos, sea porque no sentimos que cumplimos con nuestras responsabilidades…Dios quiere de sus hijos la paz. La paz, en parte, se encuentra cuando estamos unidos en familia, en comunidad. Así pues, unidos a los nuestros, estaremos seguros y con nuestros hermanos en la fe encontraremos el rostro del Cristo resucitado. «La experiencia que vivieron los discípulos de Emaús los empujó de modo irresistible a ponerse de nuevo en camino, a pesar de haber recorrido once kilómetros. Está oscureciendo, pero ya no tienen miedo de caminar de noche, pues es Cristo quien ilumina su vida. También nosotros, un día, encontramos al Señor en el camino de nuestra vida. Como los discípulos de Emaús, fuimos llamados para llevar la luz de Cristo en la noche del mundo. Ustedes, queridos jóvenes, están llamados a ser la luz en la obscuridad de la noche de tantos compañeros que aún no conocen la alegría de la vida nueva en Jesús». (Homilía de S.S. Francisco, 22 de junio de 2019).
MENSAJE DEL PAPA FRANCISCO SER FELIZ…
“Puedes tener defectos, estar ansioso y vivir irritado algunas veces, pero no te olvides que tu vida es la mayor empresa del mundo. Sólo tú puedes evitar que ella vaya en decadencia. Hay muchos que te aprecian, admiran y te quieren. Y no lo sabes, pero existen personas para quien eres especial. Me gustaría que recordaras que ser feliz, no es tener un cielo sin tempestades, camino sin accidentes, trabajo sin cansancio, relaciones personales sin decepciones. Ser feliz es encontrar fuerza en el perdón, esperanza en las batallas, seguridad en el palco del miedo, amor en los desencuentros. Ser feliz no es sólo valorizar la sonrisa, sino también reflexionar sobre la tristeza. No es apenas conmemorar el éxito, sino aprender lecciones en los fracasos. No es apenas tener alegría con los aplausos, sino tener alegría en el anonimato. Ser feliz es reconocer que vale la pena vivir la vida, a pesar de todos los desafíos, tristezas, incomprensiones y períodos de crisis, emocionales y económicas. Ser feliz es dejar de ser víctima de los problemas y volverse actor de la propia historia. Es atravesar desiertos fuera de sí, mas ser capaces de encontrar un oasis en lo recóndito de nuestra alma. Es agradecer a Dios cada mañana por el milagro de la vida. Ser feliz es no tener miedo de los propios sentimientos. Es saber hablar de si mismo. Es tener coraje para oír un “no” hasta de aquellos a quienes aprecias. Es tener seguridad para recibir una crítica, aunque sea injusta. Es besar a los hijos, mimar a los padres, tener momentos poéticos con los amigos, aunque ellos nos hieran. Ser feliz es dejar vivir a la criatura libre, alegre y simple, que vive dentro de cada uno de nosotros. Es tener madurez para decir ‘me equivoqué.’ Es tener la osadía para decir ‘perdóname.’ Es tener sensibilidad para expresar ‘te necesito.’ Es tener capacidad de decir ‘te amo.’ Que tu vida se vuelva un jardín de oportunidades para ser feliz… Que en tus primaveras seas amante de la alegría. Que en tus inviernos seas amigo de la sabiduría y la paz. Y que cuando te equivoques en el camino, comiences todo de nuevo. Pues así serás más apasionado por la vida, y descubrirás que ser feliz no es tener una vida perfecta, sino usar las lágrimas para regar la tolerancia. Usar las pérdidas para refinar la paciencia. Usar las fallas para esculpir la serenidad. Usar el dolor para lapidar el placer. Usar los obstáculos para abrir las ventanas de la inteligencia. Jamás desistas de las personas que amas. Jamás desistas de ser feliz, ¡pues la vida es un espectáculo imperdible!”
