The August 14th dinner will be hosted by The Knights of Columbus.
THE WORD OF GOD THIS SUNDAY: The Scriptural readings for this Sunday, the Nineteenth in Ordinary Time, begin with a passage from the Book of Wisdom, where the people awaited their salvation, freedom from slavery. In the second reading, from the Letter to the Hebrews, we are asked to recall the faith of Abraham and Sarah. In the Gospel, Jesus speaks of the treasure that will not be stolen or wear out. FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION OF MARY: This Thurs-day, August 15th is the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a holy day of obligation. Masses for this feast here at Saint Kilian will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 14th at 7:00 p.m. and on Thursday, August 15th at 10:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. ALTAR SERVER TRAINING: Young people (entering Fourth Grade or older) are welcome as Altar Servers at Saint Kilian Parish. A training session for this ministry is scheduled for Tuesday, August 13th from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm in the Church. Sign up is required prior to at-tending the training. Please contact Deacon Ralph at [email protected] or 724.625.1665 x2103 for more information or to register. ANOINTING OF THE SICK AT MASS: At the 5:30 p.m. Mass on Saturday, September 7th, we will also celebrate the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. The Church offers this sacrament for those who are seriously ill, fac-ing surgery, advanced in years and others who would benefit from it. If you would like to be anointed at this Mass, please call the Parish Center at (724) 625-1665, ext. 2108 so that we can reserve a seat for you. WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY: The Women’s Bible Study will begin Wednesday, September 11th, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with a retreat at the Kearns Spirituality Center. The day will include Mass, lunch and an intro to our new study, WISDOM: GOD’S VISION FOR LIFE (study guides will be available at the retreat or at the parish cen-ter $20/each). All women of the parish are invited. Sug-gested donation is $20 for the retreat; and we ask if you could bring a side dish, salad or dessert as part of our lunch. For more information or to RSVP (by August 31st), contact Jeannie Mentzer at 724-591-8784 or email at [email protected].
Dear Parishioners, Recently during a noon Mass, our granddaughter suffered what appeared to be a seizure. Many people came to our assistance with kindness and medical knowledge to help her. Someone quickly called an ambulance, provided a wheelchair, and she was shortly on her way to Children’s Hospital, where once more she was treated with compas-sion and expert medical care. Thankfully our granddaughter did not suffer a seizure, but a less significant event. My husband and I wish to thank those of you who came forward to help us. The Saint Kilian family is indeed one where love and charity abound. Thank you ever so much. With warmest regards, Charlene and John Ingham, Parishioners

INTERESTED IN BECOMING CATHOLIC? For adults, the usual way to become a member of the Catholic Church is through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). The RCIA is a gradual process of education and formation for those unbaptized, baptized in another Chris-tian denomination, or baptized Catholic but who have not received other sacraments or formation in the faith. The RCIA program helps adults to grow in their relation-ship with God and leads to the reception of the Sacra-ments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil on April 11, 2020. There are two opportunities in our parish grouping to par-ticipate in the RCIA program:
The RCIA will meet on Monday evenings from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm beginning September 30th at Saint Kilian Parish in Meeting Room D in the lower level of Saint Kilian Church. Contact Greg Callaghan at [email protected] or 724-625-1665 x2134 for more information or to sign up for the RCIA program at Saint Kilian Parish. The RCIA will meet on Tuesday afternoons from 1 pm to 2 pm beginning October 1st at Holy Sep-ulcher Church. Contact Deacon Ralph Bachner at [email protected] or 724-586-7610 x310 for more information or to sign up for the RCIA program at Holy Sepulcher Parish.
Welcome ….
Greg Callaghan, Pastoral Associate I want to thank Father Bober for giving me the oppor-tunity to introduce myself to our parish community of Saint Kilian and Holy Sepulcher. I have been hired as the pastoral associate for our parish group. I am com-ing from the Plum Community where I served in sever-al parishes in various roles for over 20 years. I have loved serving in the church working with children, youth, young adults & older adults. As pastoral asso-ciate I have ministered in educating children, preparing couples for marriage, baptism classes, education of adults, bringing adults into the faith through RCIA (Rites of Christian Initiation of Adults), helping with funeral liturgies, and business management of the par-ish. I look forward and am very excited to be able to share my work experiences with the parishioners of Saint Kilian and Holy Sepulcher. More importantly, I hope to share the lived experience of my own faith life. Being married and having four children brings many joys and struggles that heighten our awareness of the need and desire for God’s pres-ence in our lives. My hope is to grow closer to God through serving the people of our parish community and hopefully bring others closer to Jesus. I have come to serve our parish community and look forward to the many encounters and new experiences that God will bring our way. May God continue to bless you and our parish as we journey together to the King-dom. ~Gregory Callaghan Pastoral Associate

LITURGY SCHEDULE THIS WEEK AT SAINT KILIAN

SPECIAL NEEDS MINISTRY TRAINING: Scheduled for August 21st for both Teens and Adults! If you have volunteered for this ministry or think you might want to be involved in some way, please plan on attending! Deacon Larry Sutton, PhD., will be on hand to share stories, tips and tools about special needs faith formation, and to answer your questions! Teens come early 5:30 pm for training, FOOD, and some fun! Training meeting for adults begins at 7:00 pm. Please let us know you will attend by contacting Mary French @724.625.1665 x 2122 | [email protected] We need you for this ministry! Faith Formation Registration for Our Faith on Fire! School Year programming is Officially OPEN! Please be advised that there have been many changes made to our programming options. The parish website has additional infor-mation on the options available to help prepare you to register. Visit for more information and click on Ministries—Education -- and then Faith Formation. Registration Link can be located at the top of the page. Please register by Labor Day!
Our Faith on Fire! Special Needs: Do you have a child with special needs that would benefit from the adaptation of faith formation materials or one-on-one catechesis? Now is the time to reach out and meet with us so that we can begin preparing for the fall and tailor the programming to the needs of your child and ensure that we have volunteer(s) to work with your family. This program will only accept applicants through the remainder of the summer for one on one catechesis, or in some instances, a personal aide in the traditional classroom. Our Faith on Fire! Traditional: This program is offered on Sunday mornings for grades K-6 and is traditional educa-tion on a weekly basis using a text book in a classroom environment. This option is only offered during the 10:20—11:40 AM time slot on Sundays. Please note that due to the changes in the programming, we are anticipating a high-er enrollment number compared to years past. We need additional volunteers in order to offer more classes. If we have too many applicants for this program, a lottery will be held to determine enrollment. You should also antici-pate changes with drop off and pick up procedures in order to accommodate the larger number of students. Our Faith on Fire! Family: This option replaces the old Family Centered Program and is available for grades K-6 only! This program emphasizes monthly PARENT meetings the first Wednesday or Thursday, September through April, where parents receive the tools that they need to teach their children at home over the upcoming weeks. There are also 4 community meetings scheduled throughout the year that will incorporate food, fellowship, Mass, and fun. Family scrapbooks show accomplishments throughout the year instead of doing homework! Our Faith on Fire! Confirmation: This option is for students preparing for Confirmation. Year 1 is for students who have completed up through grade 6 faith formation. Year 2 are those students who will be confirmed in the Spring who have completed the first year of confirmation prep or grade 7 faith formation. There are service, Catholic en-counter, and Jr Sky elements incorporated into both of these groups. These students attend on a nearly every other week basis and may select either Sunday evening or Tuesday evening, 6:20-8:20 PM when registering. More infor-mation about these elements are to be found on the parish website. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: URGENT! The Faith Formation programs are in desperate need of volunteers for this up-coming school year. Adults require clearances. Teens are able to earn more than the required number of service hours for their schools!
• Sunday Traditional Program 10:20-11:40 AM, grades K-6. We need MANY MORE volunteers to serve as catechists and aides. Teens who will be juniors and seniors during the 2019-2020 school year may volunteer as classroom aides provided that they have good, reliable availability on Sunday mornings and there are not enough adult volunteers.
• Family Program, First Wednesday or Thursday of the month, 6:30-7:30 PM, grades K-6: TEENS needed! You need your service hours and you can earn them by assisting with this program once or twice a month, supervising the children that parents bring with them to the monthly parent meetings. Sophomores and up welcome!
• Special Needs Ministry, Sunday mornings, all grades: TEENS needed! Service hours can be earned in this ministry by serving as one on one catechists for special needs students as well as for the training you’ll receive prior to the school year. Hours available for both your prep and teaching time. All confirmed teens welcome! But we need to know who you are now! Contact Mary French for more information and to explore your options - 724.625.1665 x 2122 | [email protected]

READINGS THIS WEEK
MUSIC MINISTRY The readings This weekend advise us not to put our hope in material possessions or hard work for these, too, fade away. Yet in the psalm (P. 90 If Today Your Hear His Voice) we ask God to “prosper the work of our hands.” What is the work which needs to prosper? The psalm tells us: growth in the wis-dom to value things rightly; growth in the capacity to see the kindness and care God grants us every day; growth in the courage to hear what God is saying to us and to change our hearts accordingly. Our songs at the Presentation of the Gifts and Communion, Give The Lord Your Heart, Where Your Treasure Is and Seek Ye First all reflect the Gospel reading in various ways but the message is clearly the same. We must truly value what we really need in our lives through the lens of Jesus Christ. (Excerpts from Living Liturgy, published by Liturgical Press Col-legeville, MN.) Beginning the 1st week of September, we will begin rehearsals once again for our various choirs. If you would like more information regarding the Youth Bell Choir, Adult Bell Choir, Children’s Choir or Adult Choir please contact David Dreher 724-625-1665 x2113 or email: [email protected].
