From the Desk of Fr. Lagiovane

As we celebrate Pentecost Sunday this weekend, we recall the gift of the Holy Spirit upon the Church! That Spirit continues to guide the Church down through the ages, and is clearly evident here in our faith community of St. Joseph’s. What a blessing this community of faith continues to be since its founding back in 1845. A thank you to all of our First Communicants these last several weeks. What a blessing it was for me to cele-brate all three of the First Holy Communion Masses. To see the smiles on the children’s faces along with their parents and loved ones. Truly the Holy Spirit was at work in these precious children! I want to thank Mrs. Ri-ta Retzlaff and her staff for all the dedication and hard work they give to the children and families of our par-ish. Our Organ Concert on Saturday, May 16th proved to be a night of prayerfulness and beauty as we listened to the beautiful notes of our pipe organ. Our own Director of Sacred Music, Mr. Joseph Nigro, along with Dr. Robert Chase and Mr. Harvey Burgett, provided the splendid music. Thank you to Mr. Nigro for all his hard work and dedication to St. Joseph’s. We are truly blessed to have him among us. Along with our Adult Choir and Contemporary Ensemble, our Children’s Choir is coming along nicely. Their numbers are growing and they sounded beautiful at last Sunday’s noon Mass! Beginning in September we will be having a Family Mass on the third Sunday of each month (Sept thru June) at the Noon Mass. Our first Family Mass will be on Sunday – September 20th, 2015! The homily will be geared to the children and our children’s choir will sing. Light refreshments will be served in the Parish Center after this Mass as well.

Just a reminder: if you have a family member who is graduating from high school, please join us on Friday night, June 19th at 7:00 PM for a Graduation Mass and Reception. Please call the Rectory by June 8th to tell us how many in your family will be attending and the name of the graduate. I want to also thank all of our parishioners for your wonderful response to our monthly collection of food. I am always amazed by your generosity and response to the neediest in our community. I know God will bless your kindness. As we celebrate Memorial Day this weekend, we remember and thank God for all the men and women who have served in the Armed Forces of the United States. May God bless them for the sacrifices they have made to keep us safe and to enjoy the blessings of liberty and freedom. We pray for those veterans who have died and may God grant them eternal rest. May God continue to bless the good work that we do here at St. Joseph’s. Together we are doing good things for the Lord. Have a wonderful week in the Lord! Fr. Lagiovane

MARY’S GARDEN

Many parishioners have inquired about the beauti-ful statue of the Blessed Mother that is currently located next to the school building in Croton Falls. The statue was donated by a former pastor of St. Joseph’s, Monsignor John Nevin, in memory of his parents. I have assured all those who expressed concern about the fate of the statue that it would ultimately find an appropriate place at our new home.

Some of you may have noticed, the large spruce tree behind the church did not survive the construc-tion process and had to be taken down last week. As in most cases, when one door closes another opens.

The site of the former tree provides an ideal spot for a “prayer garden” with benches and a brick walk-way. The plan is to move the statue of the Blessed Mother from outside the convent in Croton Falls and to construct an outdoor area for prayer and re-flection.

During the Building Campaign, many folks have chosen to memorialize bricks with the name of a loved one imprinted on it. We will install those bricks in a pathway leading up the shrine. If you would like to memorialize a brick, you may do so by contacting me any weekday at the Parish Office (914- 232 2910). The donation for each brick will be $1,500.

Thank you for your continued support
