Today, the scene we consider in the Gospel explains the existing intimacy between Jesus Christ and the Father; but not only that; it invites us to discover the relationship between Jesus Christ and his disciples. «After I have gone and prepared a place for you, I shall come again and take you to me, so that where I am, you also may be» (Jn 14:3): these words of Jesus, not only place his disciples in a perspective of future, but also exhort them to keep on faithfully following the course they had begun. To share with the Lord the glorious life, they also have to partake the same way that takes Jesus Christ towards the dwellings of his Father. «Lord, we don’t know where you are going; how can we know the way?» (Jn 14:5). Jesus answers: «I am the way, the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father but through me. If you know me, you will know the Father also; indeed you know him and you have seen him» (Jn 14:6-7). Jesus does not certainly propose a simple way, but he points out the path to follow. In fact, He becomes himself the Way to the Father; through his resurrection, He becomes the Walker who is to guide us; with the gift of the Holy Spirit, He encourages and fortifies us so that we do not lose heart in our pilgrimage: «Do not be troubled; trust in God and trust in me» (Jn 14:1). In the invitation Jesus makes to us, to go to the Father through Him, with Him and in Him, his deepest mission and most intimate desires are revealed: «He, who is the Son of God who became the Son of Man, wants to make us his brothers and, thus, He is in Himself presenting all humanity to its God and true Father, by taking with him all of his own kin» (St. Gregory of Nyssa).

St. rItA feASt DAy: MAy 22 PAtrOn Of IMPOSSIBle cASeSSt. Rita was born at Spoleto, Italy in 1381. At an early age, she begged her parents to allow her to enter a convent. Instead they arranged a marriage for her. Rita became a good wife and mother, but her husband was a man of vio-lent temper. In anger he often mistreated his wife. He taught their children his own evil ways.Rita tried to perform her duties faithfully and to pray and receive the sacraments frequently. After nearly twenty years of marriage, her husband was stabbed by an enemy; but before he died, he repented because Rita prayed for him. Shortly afterwards, her two sons died, and Rita was alone in the world. Prayer, fasting, penances of many kinds, and good works filled her days. She was admitted to the convent of the Augustinian Nuns at Cascia in Umbria, and began a life of perfect obedience and great charity.Sister Rita had a great devotion to the Passion of Christ. “Please let me suffer like you, Divine Saviour,” she said one day, and suddenly one of the thorns from the crucifix struck her on the forehead. It left a deep wound which did not heal and which caused her much suffering for the rest of her life. She died on May 22, 1457. She is the patroness of impossible cases. Her feast day is May 22.

Faithful With Much At a Wednesday evening church meeting a very wealthy man rose to give his testimony. ”I’m a millionaire,” he said, “and I attribute it all to the rich blessings of God in my life. I can still remember the turning point in my faith, like it was yesterday: I had just earned my first dollar and I went to a church meeting that night. The speaker was a missionary who told about his work. I knew that I only had a dollar bill and had to either give it all to God’s work or nothing at all. So at that moment I decided to give my whole dollar to God. Lecturas de la V Semana de Pascua

La marcha de Jesús y el miedo ante un mundo hostil hace nacer en los discípulos una profunda angustia que corre el peligro de hacerlos sucumbir. Jesús quiere confortarlos mostrándoles que su marcha constituirá un paso serio para una unión de carácter más íntimo que la que ahora tienen entre ellos, por la fuerza del Espíritu. El miedo atenaza muchas veces al que cree en Jesús. Su fuerza y su palabra le liberan. El camino para llegar a creer en Dios no es para nosotros más que uno solo: JC. De ahí que la fe, asegurada en la propia fe de Jesús, tiene que remontar la angustia que provoca la dureza de la vida hasta el encuentro con lo más íntimo de Dios. Para nosotros, hoy por hoy, nuestra fe es la fe en Jesús. Confiados en él sabemos que saldremos airosos de nuestra propia limitación y de la del mundo que nos rodea, por dura que sea la contradicción. La imagen del camino largo y difícil que Israel debió recorrer para mantenerse en la fidelidad a su Dios se encuentra en toda su amplitud en el Éxodo y su simbólica. Después, la imagen fue aplicada a la ley como camino del justo hacia Dios. En el NuevoTestamento la forma de caminar según Dios es la persona misma de Jesús, pero en Juan tiene aún un significado más profundo: Jesús no es solamente el camino en la medida en que, por su enseñanza, conduce a la vida, sino que él es el camino que conduce al Padre en la medida en que él mismo es la verdad y la vida. Está bien marcado el sentido último de nuestra misión cristiana: vivir como Jesús ha vivido y tener la misma manera de pensar adaptada al mundo de hoy. Felipe (1. 44) expresa la aspiración más profunda del hombre, aspiración que nadie de nosotros logra colmar (1. 18; 6. 46). Pero Jesús se presenta en esta situación como la garantía de la consecución de ese fin último al que tiende con ansia el corazón del hombre. O dicho de otro modo: Jesús puede hacer que el hombre sea feliz ya desde ahora.

Viejo mañoso.Un viejito de 82 años que todos los días iba a la iglesia sufre los estragos de la inflación por lo cual se ve en la necesidad de robar y decide llevarse las limosnas. Así lo hace por varias semanas hasta que el cura de la iglesia, notando que las limosnas estaban desapareciendo decide espiar para ver que es lo que está pasando y así descubre que es el viejito, por lo que decide enfrentarlo. - !Pero Don Simón, porque se está llevando las limosnas? ¿Cómo que por qué?, ¿acaso no es dinero de Dios? Efectivamente, es dinero de Dios - Por eso mismo me lo llevo, ¿no ve usted que ya estoy muy viejito? ¿Y eso que tiene que ver? - !Pues que yo me voy a morir más pronto que usted y he decidido llevárselo personalmente!
