ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION
My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.
Saint George Catholic Church Women’s Group Our Saint George Catholic Women’s Group competed for the 2020 DCCW Our Lady of Good Counsel Affiliate of the Year Award. This is the first such annual award by the Utah Diocesan Council of Catholic Women to one of its parish affiliates. Our Saint George Catholic Women’s Group was awarded Second Place. They will be recognized for the award at the 2021 Convention in April. First Place award went to Saint Anthony of Padua, Helper, and Third Place to Saint James the Greater, Vernal. The Women’s Group hopes to resume their regular meeting schedule in September on the first Tuesday at 6:30pm in Kuzy Hall. All women of the parish are invited and encouraged to attend these meetings. This collage of pictures depicts some of the women’s efforts of support and outreach within the community.
STEWARDSHIP / CORRESPONSABILIDAD Gratitude in Action: Our Way of Life / Gratitud en Acción: Nuestra forma de Vida
“In [this] humility, we realize that it is not our strength, our
ingenuity, our love, or our care that is going to shape the
world. It is Jesus that the world needs, working through us. The
world does not need us. It needs someone who will bring it
Jesus. … If we truly want to be what the world needs, we need
to accept that we are not its savior and that it is actually in our
weakness and failing that Christ is made strong in us and in the
world.”1
God forgives. If we seek God’s forgiveness for ourselves, then
we, too, must be willing to forgive others.
God heals. If we ask God for healing, then we must be willing
to believe wholly, without doubt, that we will receive it. We
know God hears our prayers and answers them, although we
also know God does not always answer our prayers in our
desired time or in the way we ask. God knows what we need!
God is kind. We are sinners and offend God, perhaps more
often than we care to admit; however, He looks with pity upon
us. He waits for us to acknowledge our offense and seek His
always-present mercy. With bowed head and a repentant heart,
we can once again find favor in His Fatherly love. That favor
we must extend to others who have caused us hurt or harm.
God is just. He judges us fairly, examining the feelings and
attitudes of our heart. He loves us and offers us every
opportunity to change, to be “recreated in His divine image”.
He expects us to love others as He loves us, to be just and not
judge. Judging is His “job”.
God is Love. We are His children and He loves us beyond all
our faults, failings and sinfulness. He affords us every
opportunity to correct the errors of our ways, seek His mercy
and find our right path back to Him. We must encourage and
support others in the same manner. We are companions on this
earthly journey and need the support of others as well as the
strength we can offer each other.
“Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, [love] is not
pompous, it is not inflated, it is not rude, it does not seek its
own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over
injury, it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with
the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all
things, endures all things.
Love never fails.” (1 COR 13:4-8)

(1 COR 13: 4-8)

Pastor’s Message / Mensaje del padre: Father David Bittmenn
Making new what was old: Every school year, on the day when spaghetti was first served in the cafeteria, the first grade teacher would remind the class that it was important to use both hands to carry the plate of spaghetti to their tables. Spaghetti was
heavier than it seemed, the teacher would remind the eager first graders. And every year, in their enthusiasm and haste, some of the first graders would forget the teacher’s counsel, grab the plate with one hand, and experience a pang of dread when the plate tumbled to the ground. Some things seem easier than they are, and prayer is one of these things. Prayer looks so simple on the outside but on the inside things are frequently different. It is not always easy to connect to the source of our salvation, the son of Mary who lived 2,000 years ago. In such moments the words of this weekend’s second reading stand out: the “Spirit comes to the aid of our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes with inexpressible groanings.” Christ brought salvation into the world and the Holy Spirit makes Christ’s presence and his salvation real in our day and age. We’ve been able to identify some of the ways the Holy Spirit saves us in Christ. The Holy Spirit encourages and enables us to spread the news of salvation; the Holy Spirit deepens the truth Christ gave the world within us; and the Holy Spirit establishes and maintains the Church. In the greatest prayer of the Church, the Eucharist, the task of the Holy Spirit in bringing Christ to us is clearly stated in the Eucharistic Prayer (the prayer in which the bread becomes Christ’s Body and the wine becomes Christ’s Blood) when it says: “by the same Spirit graciously make holy these gifts we have brought to you for consecration, that they may become the Body and Blood of your Son our Lord Jesus Christ… (Eucharistic Prayer III).” One commentator observes that “only because of the presence and action of the Spirit is the community able to obey (and understand the full implications of) the Lord’s command: ‘Do this in remembrance of me.’ (John R. Sachs, “Holy Spirit in Christian Worship,” in The New Dictionary of Sacramental Worship, p. 537). Bringing Christ himself to us in the Eucharist is not the only time the Spirit brought Christ into the world. Jesus was born because the Holy Spirit came upon Mary (Luke 1:35). The Holy Spirit makes new what history records as old.
The New Dictionary of Sacramental Worship, p. 537).

GIVING and CARING ALWAYS
This time of uncertainty and doubt, changing former ways of doing things and accepting new ways of accomplishing what needs to be done, has created challenges for all of us.
Basic needs and expenses continue. Life and its unfolding, ever-changing events happen daily. We are continuing to serve our parish family daily, especially during unexpected life events. As much as possible, we attempt to maintain a balanced and “normal” schedule of what you expect from your Church.
We appreciate your communication with us and your ongoing monetary support.
Some of you have changed your method of contributing to the support of our parish through Online Giving. This method recognizes your faithful, uninterrupted support of the parish and our ability to meet our continuing needs.
Some of you mail your contributions to Saint George Catholic Church, P.O. Box 188, St. George, UT 84771. These mailings are a welcome surprise on our daily visits to the post office.
We have had the opportunity to see some of you when you personally deliver your contributions to the parish office Monday through Friday from 9 am – 5pm. Your familiar faces are a joy, allowing us to reconnect with friends not seen for a while.
Whatever continuing method of financial support you have chosen for our parish, your family, together with the services we continue to offer during this challenging time, we remain connected. Through your connectedness with us, you contribute to the joy of your parish staff as we continue serving God and each other.
THANK YOU!! Stop by and see us, or give us a call. We are always ready to assist!
