People of Our Parish
From Our Pastor:This past Friday, January 18, was the 46th March for Life commemorating the tragic
Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court decision on January 22, 1973, that has legalized abortion in the United States through all nine months of pregnancy Nearly 60 million children have been killed as a result At the time of this column, hundreds of thousands of people are planning to be in Washington, DC, at the annual March for Life (In solidarity with the March, please consider praying for a greater respect for life and for the closure of Planned Parenthood’s local abortion center, 3706 Orin Road, Madison The Diocese of Madison March for Life will be at 11:30am, Tuesday, January 22, at the Wisconsin State Capitol) Throughout the country, millions of people will be praying for the rights of pre-born children, calling for their protection and their right to live, witnessing to the dignity of every human person made in the image and likeness of God This annual event is no less important than the civil rights marches of the 1960s with Dr Martin Luther King, Jr, whom we remember this week – indeed, the civil rights movement of our day is for our brothers and sisters in the womb May God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit bless all who are giving witness to the sanctity of life, stirring the conscience of our nation May God’s blessings of life, liberty and happiness be protected and defended for all of God’s children
As disciples of Christ, we are called by God to testify to the Truth, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ ( John 1:29-42; 14:6), to be holy, to give witness to His love and mercy Jesus Christ gave His life for you and me, to redeem us – every single one of us, born and pre-born (1 Corinthians 6:13-20; Ephesians 4:1-32) As members of Christ’s Body, the Church, may we proclaim the Truth with love, proclaim and respect the God-given right to life of every human being, from conception to natural death – indeed, God has known us since before we were in our mother’s womb ( Jeremiah 1:5; Isaiah 49:1; Luke 1:15; Galatians 1:15)
God calls us to be a people of life It is our duty to intervene for the victims of abortion, just as we help victims of other injustices So, we pray, march, and get involved in pro-life groups Please pray: for all pre-born children, and for their parents to choose life; for all the moms and dads who are victims of abortion – that they seek Jesus’ forgiveness, mercy and healing, and that they know that we forgive and love them, too; for the closing of abortion clinics and the conversion of all who advocate abortion as a “right to privacy” or “choice” (denying the baby’s right/choice); and for a culture of Life Jesus, we trust in You: have mercy on us and on the whole world
With peace and prayers in Christ,Fr. William

Diocese of Madison is setting aside this weekend, January 19th & 20th, as Safe Haven Sunday in order to give focused time and resources to address the harmfulness of pornography and other online threats to marriages, family life and culture Today’s awareness day is celebrated through prayer and a reflection within the context of the Mass Covenant Eyes’ book, Equipped: Smart Catholic Parenting in a Sexualized Culture is available for adults only to pick up on tables in the entrances of the church This book includes a unique seven-day text-to-opt-in program: The Equipped 7-Day Challenge This Challenge provides practical tips any caring adult can take to create safer digital environments for themselves and our young people
A DAY OF PRAYER AND PENANCE FOR LIFEJanuary 22 marks the 46th anniversary of the Roe vs Wade
decision legalizing abortion The Bishops of the United States have designated Tuesday as a day that “shall be observed as a particular day of penance for violations to the dignity of the human person committed through acts of abortion, and of prayer for the full restoration of the legal guarantee of the right to life” How might we respond and make a difference? Our three penitential practices of prayer, fasting and almsgiving are fitting actions as we ask the Lord’s mercy, defend life at every stage, and work to end laws that legalize the destruction of innocent human life
