PLEASE NOTE—for those who receive the weekly contribution envelopes mailed to your home, you may have noticed an envelope for the Holy Land. Typically the collec-tion for the Holy Land is taken on Good Friday.

Due to the postponement of in-person Mass during the Covid-19 pandemic, the Archdiocese of Chicago has implemented date changes for several collections. This year, the collection for the Holy Land will be on September 13, 2020. Thank you for your support.

UN MENSAJE DE AMOR En los versículos finales de la lectura del Evan-gelio de hoy Jesús dice que cuando dos o tres están reunidos en su nombre, “ahí estoy yo en medio de ellos” (Mateo 18:20). Así entendemos que siempre se aplica la corrección fraternal cuando hacemos presente a Jesús. De igual manera, alentar lo bueno en otros no sólo es actuar rectamente, sino que es una necesidad. El Señor dice al profeta Ezequiel que si él “no amonesta” al malvado para que se aparte del mal camino, entonces Dios le pedirá cuentas. Vivimos en la era en que “cada quien hace lo suyo” y se suele ignorar la obje vidad mo-ral. Claramente, cuando el mensaje que compar mos con otros es un mensaje de amor, nuestros mo vos no pueden ser mal interpretados. A MESSAGE OF LOVE

In the final verses of today’s Gospel reading Jesus says that when two or three are gathered in his name, “there am I in the midst of them” (Ma hew 18:20). So we understand that fraternal correc on is always undertaken with Jesus present to us. Likewise, encouraging the good in others is not only the right thing for us to do, it is a necessi-ty. The Lord tells the prophet Ezekiel that if he “does not speak out” to dissuade a person from evil, then he too will be held responsible. We live in a “do your own thing” age when moral objec vi-ty is o en ignored.

Clearly when the message we share with others is one of love, our mo ves cannot ever be misinterpreted.

As St. Paul writes, “Love does no evil to the neighbor; hence, love is the fulfillment of the law” (Romans 13:10).

Reflec ons with the Word of God from the priests of St. Cecilia Parish

September 6 – 23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time. Read Ezekiel 33: 7-9, Romans 3: 8-10, and Ma hew 18:15-20

When the path of love is broken; Jesus pours out his undying love for us.

Today’s scripture lessons teach God’s expecta ons for us to be responsible not only for our salva on but for others too. Ac ng on this expecta on reveals an authen c love for God which the world needs to see, especially in these mes. In Ezekiel, this responsibility is portrayed as being good shep-herds to one another. In the Gospel, Jesus gives the guidelines for shepherding: First, pray for the per-son; then speak quietly, in private and consult the objec ve teachings of the Church when necessary. St. Paul writes a brilliant summary: “Brothers and sisters: owe nothing to anyone, except to love one another.”

Where do we start if we have to correct someone? Realize we are correc ng choices based on the objec ve moral good in the 10 Commandments or the virtues taught in the Bea tudes. Remember shepherding is done as Church where two or three are gathered in His name. Pray freely and openly without fear with others to admit and overcome faults, fears, indifferences, laziness, and/or negli-gence. God’s love and pa ence always comes miraculously to people who are together in unity who only want His will to be done, who want only to serve Him.

Do I have a real concern for the welfare of other souls? Do I want what God wants? When the path of love is broken; Jesus pours out his undying love for us. God bless you.

Sep embre 6 – 23 Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario Leer Ezequiel 33: 7-9, Romanos 3: 8-10, y Mateo 18:15-20

Cuando se rompe el camino del amor; Jesús derrama su amor eterno por nosotros.

Las lecturas de hoy enseñan las expecta vas de Dios para que seamos responsables no sólo de nuestra salvación, sino también de los demás. Actuar de acuerdo con esta expecta va revela un autén co amor por Dios que el mundo necesita ver, especialmente en estos empos. En Ezequiel, esta responsa-bilidad se retrata como un buen pastor el uno al otro. En el Evangelio, Jesús da las pautas para el pas-toreo: Primero, oren por la persona; luego hablar en silencio, en privado y consultar las doctrinas de la Iglesia cuando sea necesario. San Pablo escribe un resumen brillante: "Hermanos y hermanas: no de-ben nada a nadie, excepto amarse los unos a los otros".

¿Por dónde empezamos si tenemos que corregir a alguien? Comprender que estamos corrigiendo las decisiones basadas en el bien moral obje vo en los 10 Mandamientos o en las virtudes que se enseñan en las Bienaventuranzas. Recuerden que el pastoreo se hace como la Iglesia donde dos o tres están reunidos en Su nombre. Oren libre y abiertamente sin temor con los demás para admi r y superar de-fectos, temores, indiferencias, pereza y/o negligencia. El amor y la paciencia de Dios siempre vienen milagrosamente a las personas que están juntas en unidad que sólo quieren que se haga Su voluntad, que sólo quieren servirle.

¿Tengo una preocupación real por el bienestar de otras almas? ¿Quiero lo que Dios quiere? Cuando se rompe el camino del amor, Jesús derrama su amor eterno por nosotros. Dios les bendiga.

St. Cecilia – Teen Catholics in Action / Jóvenes Católicos En Acción

Welcome to St. Cecilia’s Youth Ministry Program! This program is for you, designed by you and run by you. We have created a Teen Advisory Group (TAG) that will meet once a month on Sunday evenings to keep the program growing and ac ve. You have shown ini a ve, leadership skills, and interest in Teen Catholics in Ac on/Jóvenes Católicos En Acción, and for that reason are invited to be on TAG. Please read through the expecta ons for this year. If you are able to commit to being a member of TAG, then fill out the commit-ment form and return it to Rosie Rosado or Andrea Hall before the September mee ng. If you are unable to commit to being a TAG member, that is fine. Please know that all youth ministry events are s ll available to you! These include retreats, ac vi es, service projects, and discussion nights. You are s ll a part of St. Cecilia’s youth ministry program, TCIA/JCEA. TAG is an extra involvement at a more commi ed level and will involve an extra effort on your part. Therefore, it is only fair to advise you of the expecta ons for this year and ask that you do your best to fulfill your commitment. Please know that this level of commitment will be a fine addi on to your college applica ons in the future and le ers of recommenda ons will be available when requested. Sacrament of Marriage The Pastoral Guidelines for Marriage Prepara-tion are that a minimum of 7 months be set aside for personal preparation for marriage. Couples should refrain from setting a firm date until after they have called the office to discuss marriage plans. Weddings are celebrated Saturdays at 2pm. Quinceañeras Celebraciones son Sábados. Las quinceañeras tienen que haber recibido los sacramentos (por lo menos 1ra Comunión). Comuníquese con la ofi-cina para hacer una cita por lo menos 4 meses antes de la celebración. Para reservar la fecha de la Quinceañera la donación es de $350 y se debe traer el día de la cita.
