From the Pastor’s Desk

My dear parishioners,

We are getting closer to the end of the liturgical year. In a couple of weeks, we will begin a new liturgical year with the season of Advent. The

cycles of the liturgical year remind us of the cycles of life. As we grow and mature, we experience many changes in our lives. In the same way, the changes of the liturgical year help us to grow and mature in our spiritual life and in our faith. During the Ordinary Time, we celebrate differ-ent aspects in the public ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ. Most of the time the Gospel readings relate about the parable of the Kingdom, mighty deeds or miracles, and various teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ that can help us to be true disciples by word and deed. The Advent season prepares us for the coming of our Lord Jesus. It takes a double meaning, in the sense that we prepare for the first coming of the Lord through the mystery of the Incarnation (Christmas), and then we prepare ourselves for the coming of the Lord at the end of time. The Christmas season teaches us about the birth of the Lord and the infancy narratives. The season of Lent is an intense period of penance and prayer and conversion. We fast, we pray, we give alms, and we prepare ourselves spiritually for the great festivities of Easter. In other words, we die to self and live with Christ and for Christ. We accept our share of sacrifices or the cross, so that we may rise with Christ, as we celebrate the great mystery of the resurrection at the Easter season. During the liturgical year, the whole mystery of our salvation unfolds, as we learn how much God loves us and what he does for us. In the process, we grow spiritually and we mature in faith, “to the extent of the full stature of Christ” (Cf. Eph. 4:13). God bless you always. Fr. Raphael
