y unirme totalmente a ti.

  • Exploring the Word of God from the Other Side Third Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year B)

    January 24, 2021

    Reading I Jonah 3:1-5, 10

The word of the LORD came to Jonah, saying: “Set out for the great city of Nineveh, and an-nounce to it the message that I will tell you.” So Jonah made ready and went to Nineveh, ac-cording to the LORD’S bidding. Now Nineveh was an enormously large city; it took three days to go through it. Jonah be-gan his journey through the city, and had gone but a single day’s walk announcing, “Forty days more and Nineveh shall be de-stroyed,” when the people of Nineveh be-lieved God; they proclaimed a fast and all of them, great and small, put on sackcloth. When God saw by their actions how they

turned from their evil way, he repented of the evil that he had threatened to do to them; he did not carry it out.

Do you think that the “Jonah” story was writ-ten for the child in us? Well, I do! Two parts have convinced me: 1) Jonah was believed by the people of Nineveh after the FIRST DAY! Only the “child in us” would need for the story to move that fast! Children can’t “wait around” to see what’s going to happen….we need to know “NOW”! Another insight: “The people of Nineveh “believed God.”----It doesn’t say “Believed IN God”! Little folks don’t believe in their par-ents—they “believe their parents.” What if we stopped “believing in” God—and started to “believe GOD”? Is there any possibil-ity that our lives will change if we change the context of our faith-system? The “child-in-us” might feel more at home in that faith arrange-ment! Will we have to pay closer attention to what comes into our lives? I think “YES”! Mystical experiences are EVERYWHERE! Someone at the grocery store buys our groceries for us; the Eucharistic Minister gives us the Eucharist say-ing “Receive the Body and Blood of Christ…and

BE THE BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST FOR OTHERS TODAY” A casual conversa-tion “takes us back” to something our mother told us years ago. You see: a mystical experience is one that happens right now—but also propels us back to the future. A mystical experience opens us to the graces we missed in the past AND the ones we’ve yet to experience in the future. A mystical experience challenges us to speak reverently of the way “walks” in our life today, yesterday, and tomorrow.

A mystical experience Invites us to

BELIEVE GOD….Don’t be afraid—take yourself back to God!

    Don’t be afraid…..God loves you!!!

And, so do I! Sr. Diane Langford, CDP

Diocesan Stewardship Message There is a certain urgency in today’s Gospel as Jesus calls His first disciples – Andrew and Si-mon, James and John. Each one follows Jesus im-mediately, unhesitatingly abandoning nets and boats and father and fellow-workers. To what is Jesus calling me - at this moment, in these circum-stances? What will I need to abandon in order to follow Him?

    Spiritual Communion Prayer

With spiritual communion, Jesus will give us the graces that we need this moment to be faithful to our mission of being witnesses of the Love of God before all men. Let us pray…..

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I de-sire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.
