Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Today, the Church celebrates the lit-
urgy of the first Sunday of Lent. The Gospel presents Jesus preparing for his
public life. He goes into the wilderness where He spends forty days in prayer
and in penance. There, Satan tempts Him.
We must also get ready for Easter.
Satan is our great enemy. There are many people who do not believe in him
and claim that he is a product of our fantasy, or that he is just an abstract
concept of evil, diluted in the people and the world. But no!
How does evil act in the world? Through lies, by deceiving. Where
there are lies or deceit, there is a devil-
ish action. The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world
that he does not exist. And, how does he deceit us? He tempts us with evil
actions as if they were good ones; he induces us to do evil; and he suggests,
plenty of excuses to justify our sins. After swindling us, he fills us up with
anxiety and sadness. Have you ever
felt such experience, before? Our attitude in front of temptation?
Before: to watch, to pray and to avoid the occasions. While: direct or indirect
resistance. Afterwards: if you have won, thank God for that. A defeated
temptation is progress in sanctity. And, if you have failed, ask for forgiveness,
and try to learn from experience in the
future. Which attitude have you shown so far?
Let us begin this Lenten season with Pray by praying the stations of the Cross every Friday at 5 pm in the church and by attending to Saturday Mass at 8 am. Also, by fasting from things that are harm-ful to our souls and by giving alms which means sharing our goods with others. Let us avoid tempta-tions in our lives. The Virgin Mary crushed the infernal serpent's head. Let Her give you the
necessary strength to overcome our daily temptations. Saint Anthony, Pray for us.

Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas:
Hoy, la Iglesia celebra la liturgia del
Primer Domingo de Cuaresma. El Evangelio presenta a Jesús preparán-
dose para la vida pública. Va al de-
sierto donde pasa cuarenta días haciendo oración y penitencia. Allá es
tentado por Satanás. Nosotros nos hemos de preparar pa-
ra la Pascua. Satanás es nuestro gran
enemigo. Hay personas que no creen en él, dicen que es un producto de
nuestra fantasía, o que es el mal en abstracto, diluido en las personas y
en el mundo. ¡No!
¿Cómo actual el diablo en el mundo? Mintiendo, engañando. Donde hay
mentira o engaño, allí hay acción diabólica. «La más grande victoria del
Demonio es hacer creer que no exis-te» (Baudelaire). Y, ¿cómo miente?
Nos presenta acciones perversas co-
mo si fuesen buenas; nos estimula a hacer obras malas; y, en tercer lugar,
nos sugiere razones para justificar los pecados. Después de engañarnos,
nos llena de inquietud y de tristeza.
¿No tienes experiencia de eso? ¿Nuestra actitud ante la tentación?
Antes: vigilar, rezar y evitar las oca-siones. Durante: resistencia directa o
indirecta. Después: si has vencido, dar gracias a Dios. Si no has vencido,
pedir perdón y adquirir experiencia.
¿Cuál ha sido tu actitud hasta ahora? Comencemos esta temporada cuaresmal con oración, con el Viacrucis todos los viernes a las 7 pm en la iglesia y asistiendo a la Misa del sábado a las 8 de la mañana. También ayunando de cosas que son dañinas para nuestras almas y dando limosnas que significa compartir nuestros bienes con otros. Evitemos las tentaciones en nuestras vidas. La Virgen María que aplastó la cabe-za de la serpiente infernal. Que Ella
nos dé fortaleza para superar las ten-taciones de cada día.
