———CALENDAR OF THE WEEK———

Dear Parishioners and Visitors,
Happy “Gaudete” Sunday, the third Sunday
of Advent, whose pink/rose color signifies that we’re
more than half-way to Christmas than when we began.
It is a weekend that we are reminded to be joyful, and
amidst all that is happening, to take time to savor what
is good and beautiful around us.
I want to thank everyone for their generosity
toward our Thanksgiving food baskets. Though we
started off slowly, it was another successful year, with
the parishes serving more than 400 households locally.
Thanks too for your assistance with all of the various
Christmas food, goods, and gift drives. I need you to
know that your efforts are appreciated and never taken
for granted.
As we approach Christmas, there are three op-
portunities coming up for the Sacrament of Reconcili-
ation. There is a Penance Service this Sunday 12/16 at
4pm at St. Francis Church in Hillcrest as well as this
Thursday 12/20 at 7pm at St. Anthony’s; and finally at
St. Joseph’s, at Holy Family, and here at St. Ambrose,
on Monday 12/17 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm (Holy
Family will end at 6:00) “the Light is On”. I urge you
that if you have been to confession recently, please
skip “the Light is On,” and save it for people who
have been away from the Sacrament for a long time
and are in serious need of the reconciliation. I hope
you all have a great week.
God bless,
Fr. Michael

CHRISTMAS DECORATORS NEEDED! On Sunday, De-
cember 23
rd
at 11:00 a.m. we will be decorating the church for
Christmas. Many hands make light work, and think of the pride
and joy you will experience knowing that you helped make the
church beautiful for the Christ Child! Please join us for fun,
laughter, and decorating!
GIVE THE GIFT OF HOPE THIS CHRISTMAS!
Christmas gift cards are available at the entrances of OLGC
for donations to “our” girls in Uganda. Each card states a do-
nation has been given in honor of your loved one. Select a
card and drop donation in an envelope marked “UGANDA
MISSION” in the OLGC collection basket. If your donation
is in check form, BE SURE TO MARK “UGANDAN MIS-
SION” on the memo line or it will not be included in the
Uganda collection. It’s perfect for the person you can’t think
what to buy, and your donation will make a tremendous differ-
ence in the lives of these girls!
The Women’s Empowerment Ministry will be
meeting on Wednesday, December 19th in the OLGC School
Resource Center at 1:00 pm. Along with continued support for
Safe Harbour and the Ugandan Mission, WE is taking on a
new project. We will be working with the Jennie F. Snapp
middle school to assist the young people there. There is a 65%
poverty rate at this Endicott school, and assistance is very
much needed. Please give some thought to joining our efforts.
Everyone is welcome!

A Joyful Sunday. The Third Sunday (Dec. 16) of Advent
is also known as Gaudete (gow-DET-eh) Sunday. The
word “gaudete” is derived from the Latin words “gaudium,”
joy, and “gaudeo,” to rejoice or be glad. Gaudete Sunday
occurs eight to thirteen days before Christmas, and the near-
ness of this major feast is reason for great joy.
Gaudete is taken from the Entrance Antiphon: “Rejoice in
the Lord always; again I say, rejoice. Indeed, the Lord is
near” (paraphrase, Phil 4:4-5). Advent is a time of joyful
expectation and eager preparation for the Solemnity of
Christmas. Gaudete Sunday offers a one-day respite to look
ahead to the joyful celebration of the Nativity.
Advent Wreath prayer for Week 3: Dec. 15 & 16: Joy
Dear Jesus, help us focus on you during this busy season.
May we stay aware of the joy you bring into our lives. We
want to find you in the everyday moments and come with
hearts of gratitude to your manger on Christmas. Amen.
(Prayer is from DynamicCatholic.com)

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE from
the Office of Family Life Education (A
Hope Appeal Agency)
Today’s gospel tells us to SHARE! This
Christmas resist the pressure to give token gifts. Instead, use
those funds to give necessities to the poor. If our impoverished
brothers and sisters are not on our gift list, we’ve missed the
point of Christmas.
