A OVERVIEW

1. Introduction

This report provides an overview of performance for the period 1 April 2012 to 31 March 2013. The Commission has achieved 84% (49 of 58) of its annual performance targets for the period under review, while 16% (9 of 58) constitute targets not met. The unmet targets are presented in Table 1:

3.3.1 Human Rights Advocacy (HuRAP)

Five (5) public hearings on water and sanitation held in Gauteng (Dec), Eastern Cape, Western Cape (Nov), Northern Cape and Free State (Oct) respectively. The hearings were well attended by various sectors of society and received good media coverage.

Hosting of the dialogues on freedom of expression and hate speech in the contexts of artistic expression and liberation songs respectively, as jointly hosted by Gauteng provincial office and the unit.

3.3.2 Promotion of Access to Information (PAIA)

Tabling of PAIA Annual Report in Parliament and briefing on PAIA to Portfolio Committee on Justice and Constitutional Development.

PAIA training session was conducted for the Departments of Tourism and Energy as well as the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP)

A consolidated report on section 51 manual statistics was developed and completed

Additional four (4) compliance audits completed

Commenced the process of developing a complaints handling protocol and consultation manual

Training has also taken place for colleagues on Complaints Management Systems in late November 2012 andthis has been coupled with one-on-one engagements at Provincial Offices which shall be taking place between November and December 2012.
