    1.0 SACS Release 5.3.1.21 V8i Overview

    1.1 SACS Release 5.3.1 V8i Overview

    SACS 5.3.1 V8i is an feature equivalent version of SACS 5.3 Service Pack 2 with the exception ofPrecede (bug fixes and enhancements) and Dynpac which contains a bug fix. The main objective of thisrelease is to transition to Bentley's SELECT licensing system.

    SACS 5.3.1 V8i (SACS 5.3 SP2) contains numerous updates to the redesigned Precede which now includesPostvue display capabilities for members and plates. A new Report Generator module which allows the usersto extract results from the common solution file and generate reports has also been added.

    Corrected a problem where the pile increments were not restricted to elastic when the inertialproperties defined by the user did not match the calculated values based upon the cross sectiongeometry.

    Release 5.3 Enhancements

    Updated joint strength calculation to take into account Norsok Code. Introduced MEMSKP andGRPSKP lines to prevent local buckling checks for specific members and groups.

    Included MEMREM line to remove a members stiffness at a given load increment.

    Added MEMDUC line to override a members ductility limit.

    Added the ability to define member indentation energy limits on the IMPACT line.

    Added multiple impact load conditions on the IMPACT line.

    Release 5.3 Corrections

    Corrected a problem reporting reactions for models with large numbers of constrained joints. The AC option in columns 54 to 55 of the CLPOPT line was introduced to obviate incorrectintermediate loading of elastic members.

    Corrected a problem which restricted the sub-area stress reporting.

    Corrected a problem with super elements which caused the program to terminate.

    Corrected a problem with user defined super elements which were leading to incorrectperformance.

    Corrected a problem where the units for torsional spring rates for piles were being displayedincorrectly.

    Corrected a problem where the joint strength inclusion report for the BSSEL input line waserroneously labeled as an exclusion report.

    Corrected an issue where the allowable stresses for the Norsok joint check were being incorrectlyreported.

    Corrected an issue where the yield strength overrides were not being used for joint strength checkcalculations.

    Corrected a problem where the plate shear stress was being reported incorrectly.

    Corrected a problem with the BSSEL line in which unnecessary braces were being selected forinclusion.

    Release 5.3 Corrections

    Corrected a problem on running the Special History Report for the second time in a CollapseView session, wherein all members were described as 'unloading' on the first load step.

    Corrected a problem in which the Display Plane location was not detecting the location of theclicked joint. Corrected an issue where spurious descriptors were being displayed in the special event historyreport.

    Corrected a display problem involving overly thick lines.

    Corrected a problem involving incorrect display of members when resizing a window.

    Combine

    Release 5.3.1 V8i (Service Pack 2) Corrections

    Corrected a problem associated with combining two common solution files from dissimilarmodels.

    Release 5.3 Enhancements

    The combine module has been enhanced to handle the combination of multiple common solutionfiles.

    The primary file is no longer restricted to the file containing the larger model when combiningresults of dissimilar models.

    The combine module has been enhanced so that the restriction on the order of placement ofcommon members and joints in each input files for dissimilar models no longer applies.

    Corrected the problem where code check options AA and AL were not being transferred tothe combine common solution file

    Corrected a problem where the AMOD information was missing from the CSF file when AMODSwere defined without a header line.

    Data Generator

    Release 5.3 Enhancements

    Added the ability to view soil data in the chart viewer by right clicking the soil table.

    Includes update to Fatigue FTOPT3 record.

    The Datagen data and help files have been updated for the Tow RAO record. The term `WaveHeight' has been changed to `Wave Amplitude' as is stated in the user's manual.

    Included information for the FTOPT2 record concerning the use of the water depth and mudlinelocations for the welder joint curves in the current API edition.

    The input units for end bearing capacity for ROCK on the APIAXL SLOC line for PSI have beencorrected to KSF, kN/cm**2,kg/cm**2.

    SPAN and CODE lines have been added to model data.

    BRCOVR line has been implemented for Joint Can

    EFTOPT line has been implemented for Fatigue.

    SACSIV `OPTIONS' Line code check now has Eurocode 3

    General extension of line acceptance to current standards.

    Added support for report Generator function

    Dynamic Response

    Corrected a problem where the program hangs for ice vibration analysis with particular ice sheetconditions.

  • Changed weight input from short tons to kips in dropped object analysis with English units.

    Added ability to pass basic load cases when equivalent static loads are created for use insubsequent load combinations or collapse load sequence.

    Increased the number of significant digits for applied and inertia equivalent static loads toimprove accuracy for dynamic loads with small magnitudes or applied to large surfaces.

    Added the ability to plot load summation for various time increments to show accuracy lost byincreasing output load time increment.

    Added a feature to generate plot files for periodic vibration analysis.

    Added a feature to report total forces time history in X, Y and Z direction resulting from forcedtime history analysis.

    Dynamic ship impact and dynamic dropped object transient response output for both linear elasticand elasto-plastic analysis.

    Equivalent static loads include maximum/minimum vertical load option.

    Corrected a problem where LOADC lines in the model file were being ignored.

    Dynpac

    Release 5.3.1 V8i Correction

    Program does not complete analysis. This happens when the model contains springs and a large number ofjoints and a certain number of DOF.

    Release 5.3.1 V8i (Service Pack 2) Enhancements

    Added mass and entrapped mass calculations for submerged stiffened box sections.

    Enhanced program to support contingency factors on load cases converted to mass and also forincluded weights.

    Release 5.3 Correctiions

    Corrected a problem where LCSEL DY and LCFAC DY for the same common set of load casesdid not work together and produced different conversion of loads to weight values.

    Improved overall functionality for dynamic analysis.

    Added report generation capability using the SACS Report Generator module

    Release 5.3 Enhancements

    Standardized the presentation of analysis options so that the same Analysis Options screens areused throughout the Analysis Generator.

    Added ability to Create Damage Center Report when right clicking on Fatigue input file.

    Double click a file with no File ID now opens the file in the editor.

    The rows in the table reading "SAT Files" and "Encapsulated Postscript Files" formatted the sameas "Export Settings.

    Updated options area so that GAP option s in the Executive are not available if Gap input file isused.

    Updated default file names for dynamic response analyses to use program abbreviation forDynamic Response instead of Earthquake.

    Added the ability to run Combine on multiple solution files.

    Updated input file default setting so that use of input file rather than specifying options in theExecutive is default.

    Program now identifies copies of SACS files.

    Updated so that program remembers the location of the Analysis Progress dialog.

    Analysis Summary dialog enhanced to be pinned to the Analysis Generator to which it applies.

    Updated drop down menus to match Legacy Executive more closely.

    Updated error messages to give better explanation of the problem.

    Program now recognizes files named using customized program/file type labels as well as thedefault labels.

    Analysis generator left column double click functionality now matches the default drop downmenu item like legacy Executive.

    Updated to check if Analysis Progress dialog is off of the screen display area and moves it so thatit can be seen.

    Updated Analysis Generator to show file path when selecting the row with the file name shown.

    Enhanced the File Explorer area to update when file name, size, date, etc. changes are made.

  • Updated program to check for the existence of SACS interactive modules before attempting tolaunch and provide appropriate error message if program is not found.

    Changed File ID filter to exclude .run and .runx to avoid confusion by creating non run files withthese extensions.

    The Executive 5.3 has been enhanced to provide significant advantages over the LegacyExecutive including, complete new look and feel, dockable windows allowing users to rearrange theinterface to their preference, the ability to revise analysis options without the regeneration of thecomplete run file, user defined partial run file templates, enhanced analysis type layout, drag and dropmulti-run file setup features.

    Release 5.3 Corrections

    Updated program to send the actual file name to the interactive programs instead of the short filenames.

    Corrected problem where new solution file name was not recognized if changed when creatingstatic analysis run file

    Corrected default file name when creating Gap run file.

    Corrected problem when existing files are not deleted is there is a space in the filename or path.

    When updating file ID in an exiting run file, the file ID is now updated in the run file name also.

    Chart View program opens NPF files when opened from the Error log.

    Corrected problem in fatigue when files were requested in the wrong order and requestingunneeded section library file.

    Corrected file naming problem for PSI, PILE and standard static analysis solutions files fromWave Response transfer function.

    Corrected problem in Forced time history or forced time history with collapse, where clicking onthe DYR button a blank screen without any options appeared.

    Corrected a problem in Global Loading run where solution file was not requested.

    Updated Analysis output window so it does not trim leading blanks which was causing columns tobe misaligned.

    Corrected the joint can code option so that code used matches the code selected when specifyingin Analysis Options.

    Corrected problem where analyses were terminated when attempting a second run after the initialrun.

    Corrected problem where Solve could be unchecked in PSI analysis then could not be reactivated.

    Corrected issue with saving Analysis Output pane that it was not saved properly.

    Standardized method of sending path to interactive programs so that files from directories withlong paths can be opened.

    Corrected problem where files saved on the Desktop in Vista were not being shown.

    Updated to allow the user to run Post, Joint Can or Postvue when running a wave responseextreme wave analysis where the EQS loads are to be solved.

    The runfile no longer stores the name of the runfile inside the runfile itself. In the past, if therunfile name was changed in Explorer, the old name was still included inside of the runfile. Thereforewhen executing the runfile it created a copy of the old name.

    Added support for the new combine program which allows combining of more than two solutionfiles.

    The worksheet now displays the filename and date when executing a runfile.

    Added fatigue extract option to the Analysis Options so that extract files can be created withoutmodifying fatigue input.

    Included the ability to create both chart files and neutral picture files.

    Added a Chart Viewer to the utilities pane and implemented chart file type.

    Release 5.3 Corrections

    Executive no longer runs combine when equivalent static loads are generated in DynamicResponse runs.

    Corrected Random waves retrieval process when run as separate step so that neutral picture filesare not overwritten.

    Program updated for Combine so that a secondary solution file is requested if a secondarysolution file is designated on the DIRECT or LCAS lines.

    Corrected a problem with the listing file optimizer where errors where not being shown in theerror log.

    Damage center utility now works when using a dedicated analysis server directory.

    SE creation and extraction now runs when using a dedicated server directory.

    Corrected a problem when new project is created but no worksheet file is given, got error messagethat c:\path is an illegal filename.

    Corrected a problem where some of the demos did not run when right clicking and selecting run.

  • Fatigue

    Release 5.3.1 V8i (Service Pack 2) Enhancements

    Added DNV C203 2008 inline tube SCF option 'DN3' where the value for beta is a function ofD/T1 instead of being treated as a constant value of 2.5.

    Enhanced program to allow user defined misalignment ratio, maximum out-of roundnessallowances and thickness transition slope associated with in-line tubular SCF calculations for theDnV-RP-C203 2005(DN2) and DnV-RP-C203 2008 (DN3) codes by defining these parameters on thefTOPT3 input line.

    Service Pack 2 Corrections

    Corrected a problem where the ring stiffened SCF factors at the inner edge locations wereincorrect.

    Corrected a run timer error that occurred for members having stiffened cylinder sections.

    Corrected a problem where the 'NSC' option to remove short can effects was being ignored whendefined on the CONRST input line.

    Corrected a problem where the MODSEL line did not function for wind spectrum fatigueanalysis.

    Release 5.3 Enhancements

    Updated inline SCF override to apply to cones.

    Added SCF overriding feature for BOX members, using new CONSBX line to override SCF ateach stress component.

    Changed default validity check option when parameters are outside range of validity forEfthymiou SCF to use the maximum SCF determined from actual parameters and the limitingparameters. The default was to use the actual parameters to determine SCF without consideringlimiting parameters.

    Implemented all the S-N curves based on ISO 19902 Section 16.11.1.

    The Damage Center module now supports user defined S-N curves and the current API editionS-N curves.

    The simplified Double Peak Spectrum based on Toresthaugen paper has been implemented.

    Included API 21st Edition Supplement 2 & 3 S-N curves

    Release 5.3 Corrections

    Corrected the inline fatigue analysis for cones that was using the average cone areas and momentsof inertia in the stress calculations.

    Release 5.3.1 V8i (Service Pack 2) Corrections

    Corrected a problem with load case dependant density input where the density defined in the lastLCSEL line was overriding the density defined in the previous LCSEL lines.

    Release 5.3 Enhancements

    Updated tank buoyancy calculation for improved accuracy.

    Enhanced to include simulated launch from quay where structure supports include land, tanks,etc.

    Added the common weight features from Seastate to the Floatation module.

    Gap

    Release 5.3 Corrections

    Corrected problem where program terminated when model contained too many plate paneldefinition in Plate Group lines.

    Interactive Fatigue

    Release 5.3.1 V8i (Service Pack 2) Enhancements

    Enhanced the program to support the "NT-S" S-N curve.

    Release 5.3.1 V8i (Service Pack 2) Corrections

    Corrected a problem with user defined S-N curves.

    Corrected a problem where the effective thickness of a double skinned tubular member was notcalculated in accordance to the current API code check.

    Release 5.3 Enhancements

    Simplified Double Peak Spectrum based on Toresthaugen paper has been implemented.

    Release 5.3 Corrections

    Corrected problem with CONSCF-Connection Overrides when leaving SCF blank, default valueof 5 is now assumed.

    Correct Wave Spectrum value where value was 4 times bigger than the actual values because ofdifference of significant wave height.

  • Corrected a problem where interactive fatigue predicts different damage values from thosereported in the fatigue program listing file for a large number of transfer function load cases.

    Joint Can

    Release 5.3.1 V8i (Service Pack 2) Enhancements

    Added a code check for fully grouted joints in accordance to the current API code check

    Added an option to use the earlier API 21st Edition strength check formula (pre supplements 2and 3) in the current API code check.

    The UC order joint can detailed report now lists the effective chord length for NORSOK and ISO19902 code check options.

    Enhanced the program to remove the safety factor from the Qf calculations when performing thecapacity check associated with the API option.

    Release 5.3.1 V8i (Service Pack 2) Corrections

    Corrected the problem to allow the user to modify the effective thickness in column 33 of theJCNOPT line for API WSD 21st Edition code check.

    Corrected the problem where the GAP MAX and MIN values defined on the JCNOPT line didnot function correctly when set to 0.0

    Corrected the problem where the effective can length Lc was being reported in the list file forjoints without thickened cans.

    Corrected the problem where the chord length was being reported incorrectly in the list file for current edition of API WSD code check.

    Corrected a problem where the strength unity check was being reported for the 'EQK' joint canoption.

    Corrected a run time error for cylinders with stiffened cross sections.

    Corrected the problem in the joint can redesign report where the "after redesign thickness" wasbeing reported incorrectly for the current edition of API code check.

    Release 5.3 Enhancements

    The default API option changed to API 21st Edition with Supplement 1, Supplement 2 andSupplement 3.

    Code check ID's "API" and "EQK" now correspond to the current API edition. Code check ID's

  • "API21" and "EQK21" correspond to API RP2A 21st Edition.

    Total can length calculation for API 21st Supplement 3, ISO 19902 and Norsok codes wasexpanded.

    ISO 19902 code check of connections of Tubular and Conical members was implemented.

    An amendment to the API LRFD RP2A 1st Edition code has been added as suggested by Shell.

    Added a code checks for overlapped joints (uni-planar) in accordance with the current APIedition.

    Added a "LOAD THROUGH CHORD REPORT" for the current API edition.

    VALIDITY RANGE CHECK REPORT has been added the current API edition and also forNorsok code of practice

    The Norsok Joint Can code check has been upgraded to Norsok code of practice.

    Added joint can strength check in accordance with the current API edition.

    Modified "JOINT CAN SUMMARY (UC ORDER)" report to include strength unity check in thesummary report irrespective of the user selecting the "MEMBER STRENGTH JOINT ANALYSISREPORT".

    Release 5.3 Corrections

    Corrected the problem where the axial allowable stress was incorrectly increased when thethickness of "thickened can" happened to be smaller than the "Nominal Thickness" for the currentAPI edition, Norsok, and SHELL API LRFD codes of practice.

    Corrected the "SKIPPED MEMBER WARNING" report in which the number of skipped memberwas reported incorrectly under certain circumstances.

    Corrected the problem where the user defined SCFs were not correctly read for a "SimplifiedFatigue" analysis with the USR option.

    Corrected the problem where "UC ORDER JOINT CAN DETAIL REPORT" was incorrect if the'MX' option was selected for the UC order report and the joint order report was not selected.
