Gospel Summary Mark’s community lived in a time of persecution, uneasiness and discouragement. They needed hope and Mark supplied it in his presentation of Jesus just before the story of his passion, death and resurrection. Some people call this portion of Mark’s Gospel “Little Apocalypse” because it refers to events in the end times. Certain occurrences will be visible before Jesus returns and Mark has Jesus say words that help his community look for signs. The words in this Gospel indicate that “this” generation will not pass away before “these things have taken place.” What is not exactly clear is what things, but the most important point is that the people of Mark’s community find hope in Jesus’ return. Reflection for Families Nowhere is the changing world so evident as it is in children. How many times have you been around someone who hasn’t seen you or your child for some time? They often remark, “Oh, my! How he’s grown!” And it’s true. He has grown. We see changes daily in their physical and emotional growth. Even children’s spiritual growth astounds us from time to time. Today’s Gospel makes clear that changes are coming—we just don’t know when. We’re not called to make ourselves paranoid about the signs of the changes, but rather to always be ready for Jesus’ return. In a few weeks, we will have a number of readings that challenge us to be ready. Now might be a good time to make a commitment as a family to slow down the pace of this holiday season.

SOCK COLLECTION Please Help Those In Need
Our PREP students will be collecting NEW men’s and women’s socks for the homeless. If you would like to help our students with this act of kindness you may bring a package of socks with you to church and place them in the vestibule! The students will be collecting until December 15th and they wish to thank you in advance!!!
The collected socks will be taken to the homeless shelter in 69th street.

Sacred Hearts Poor Box For November Veterans Day is November 11th. We would liked to honor our Veterans by having all monies collected in the Poor Box for the month of November being donated to a local Veteran’s Center. Please

St. Hedwig’s Chapel Holiday Food Drive Once again St. Hedwig’s will be accepting your donations of canned goods, non-perishables and monetary donations. Please see Philip Tarashuk or Gina Dubinski in the vestibule of St. Hedwig’s. Cleaning of St. Hedwig’s for Christmas Saturday morning, November 21st at 8:30. Sacred Heart Parish Always Welcome New Parishioners Please contact the rectory to receive a registration form at 610-623-0409 Scout Food Drive On Saturday, November 14, Boy Scout Troop 111, Cub Pack 111 and Girl Scouts from St. Eugene’s and elsewhere will be dropping off plastic bags asking for donations of food to homes in the Clifton Hts, Westbrook Park, parts of Secane and Drexel Hill. We are asking for donations of non perishable food to help the needy. All donations will be picked up from the homes on Saturday, November 21. If your donation has not been picked up by noon on November 21, please call Harris Resnick at 610-547-9340 or feel free to bring the food directly to Borough Hall, 30 S. Springfield Road, by 3 PM that day. We are also asking for volunteers to help out. We need folks to inspect and sort the food, others to drive scouts around and help pick up food. If you can help out please come to the Borough Hall by 10 AM that day.

Host families are needed to host two students each for the week of December 4-12. A stipend is provided from the host agency. This is a wonderful opportunity for cultural immersion!
