Today’s second Collection is for 2020 Bishop’s Ministry appeal

Cathy Guisewite was a cartoonist who wrote the popular comic
strip, "Cathy", which lasted for 34 years. She wrote a one-line
statement about Christmas that is especially relevant in 2020.
"Sometimes the best Christmas present is remembering what you've
already got." For many of us, Christmas will look different this
year. There may be fewer, less expensive gifts under the tree.
Family and friends who live out of town may choose not to travel as
the Covid-19 Pan-demic rages. The trips to the shopping mall may be
replaced by on-line orders because most of the stores are closed.
While it's true that Christmas will look different this year, Cathy
Guisewite's description of the best Christmas present is perfect.
We have been focused on having more and better things for too long.
We have forgotten that the best Christmas gifts are already in our
home. Our beloved family is the best gift we have. Even if some
family members are struggling without a job or an illness at this
time, we treasure the gift that God has given us in them. If we are
alone this Christmas, let's remember our dear family living or
deceased. The gift of their lives is never lost or forgotten. Merry

LOOKING AGAIN
Luke says that Mary “was greatly troubled at what was said
and pondered what sort of greeting this might be.” She asks,
“How can this be?” These questions don’t fit with how Fra
An-
gelico positioned Gabriel and Mary. In the Vivas
illustrations,
the Angel Gabriel sits down with battered wings and a
balding
head and has a cup of coffee with Mary as the two of them
try
to figure it out together. The text is the same, but the
message
conveyed is different. There is a different degree of
comfort
and familiarity to these illustrations.
This “having a cup of coffee” is something we need to learn
to
do with the scriptures and with our lives. After this event,
preg-
nant Mary traveled into the hill country to be with
Elizabeth;
an older, wiser, mentor—a mother figure. She spent three
months there reflecting and preparing for the birth of her
child.
In this final week of Advent, take a few moments to find a
Ga-
briel/Mary or an Elizabeth/Mary moment and read the Christ-
mas readings again to see what you might have overlooked,
and to find a new way for Christ to dwell in you.

Lucas dice que María “estaba muy preocupada por lo que se le
dijo y se preguntaba que tipo de saludo podría ser ese”.
Ella
preguntó: “¿cómo puede ser esto posible?” Estas preguntas no
concuerdan como Fra Angelico puso a Gabriel y María. En las
ilustraciones de Vivas, el ángel Gabriel sentado con las
alas
maltratadas, cabeza calva, está tomando una taza de café con
María mientras los dos juntos tratan de resolverlo. El texto
es
el mismo, pero el mensaje transmitido es diferente. Hay un
grado diferente de comodidad y familiaridad en estas
ilustra-
ciones.
Este “tomando café” es algo que tenemos que aprender a ha-
cer con las escrituras y con nuestras vidas. Después de este
evento, María embarazada viajó a las colinas para estar con
Isabel, una mentora sabia y anciana, la figura de una madre.
Ella pasó tres meses ahí reflexionando y preparándose para
el
nacimiento de su hijo. En esta última semana de Adviento,
de-
dica unos momentos para encontrar un momento Gabriel y
María o momento Elizabeth y María y lee las lecturas de
Navi-
dad de nuevo para ver lo que podrías haber pasado por alto,
y
para encontrar una nueva forma de que Cristo habite en ti.

Corazón de tu Hijo Jesucristo que sigue ofreciéndose a Ti en la
Eucaristía para la salvación del mundo. Que el Espíritu Santo, que
guio a Jesús, sea mi guía y mi fuerza en este día para que pueda
ser testigo de tu amor. Con María, la madre del Señor y de la
Iglesia, pido especialmente por las intenciones del Papa y de
nuestros obispos para este mes. Amén

que venga a nosotros Tu Reino. Te pido en especial: por el Papa y
sus intenciones, por nuestro Obispo y sus intenciones, por nuestro
Párroco y sus intenciones.

Evangelization: For a life of pray-er. We pray that our personal
relation-ship with Jesus Christ be nourished by the Word of God and
life of prayer.
God, our Father, I offer You my day. I offer You my prayers,
thoughts, words, actions, joys, and sufferings in union with the
Heart of Jesus, who continues to offer Himself in the Eucharist for
the salvation of the world. May the Holy Spirit, Who guided Jesus,
be my guide and my strength today so that I may witness to your
love. With Mary, the mother of our Lord and the Church, I pray for
all Apostles of Prayer and for the prayer intentions proposed by
the Holy Father this month. Amen Traditional Daily Offering of the
Apostleship of Prayer O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of
Mary, I offer You my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of this
day in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the
world. I offer them for all the intentions of Your Sa-cred Heart:
the salvation of souls, rep-aration for sin, and the reunion of all
Christians. I offer them for the inten-tions of our bishops and of
all Apostles of Prayer, and in particular for those recommended by
our Holy Father this month. The Apostles of Prayer offer themselves
to God each day for the good of the world, the Church, one another,
and the Holy Father’s inten-tions.
