Dear Parishioners of Sacred Heart Cathedral,
I pray that this Christmas be a special time for all of us to encounter Jesus Christ anew. May He contin-ue to find a dwelling place in our hearts as He found it in the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Joseph. Like the shepherds, may we too become bearers of this Good News announcing to all that God is with us, to be with us, to stay with us today and the coming years.

This Sunday, December 22, 2019 at 11:00AM Mass at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Matthew Bellerive will be
instituted into the Ministry of Lector. Matthew is a parishioner of Sacred Heart Cathedral and currently
undergoing priestly formation at Seminary of Christ the King, Mission, BC. Mass will be followed by a
simple reception.
“On Sundays and other holydays of obligation, the faithful are obliged to participate in the Mass. They are also to abstain from work or business that would inhibit the worship to be given to God, the joy prop-er to the Lord’s Day, or the due relaxation of mind and body.” (Can. 1247)
In Canada there are two holydays of obligation: January 1,
Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God December 25,
Solemnity of the Nativity of the Lord (Christmas)

CHRISTMAS EVE MASS WITH FRENCH CHRISTMAS CAROLS.
Bishop Jensen will celebrate the Mass on December 24
th at Domano Chapel, 6500 South-
ridge Avenue, starting with French Christmas carols at 6:45PM.
Simbang Gabi, a novena of Masses in preparation for Christmas, tradi-tional in Filipino culture.
The Filipino-Canadian Community continues to gather for Mass at
Sacred Heart Cathedral at 6:30 PM every evening. Bishop Jensen will be the main celebrant on Sunday, December 22, 6:00 PM, followed by a dinner in the lower church hall. All are welcome!
