Science in the River City (SIRC) is a standards-based professional developm
ent program for K-12 science teachers. It’s held at
Sacramento State six tim
es during the academic year, and is designed to
deepen teachers’ understanding of science and provide innovative ideas, lessons, and strategies for teachers to use in their classroom
s.

Each SIRC night is $45 and can be paid by purchase order, check, or credit card (Visa, M
astercard, or Discover). The cost includes your
workshop and m
aterials, dinner, the guest speaker, your parking pass, and a raffl

Yes! For an additional fee, you may earn Continuing Education U
nits (CEU
s) for attending the fall or spring (or both) SIRC series. These units m
ay be purchased on site at SIRC. Each series (3 workshops) is 0.9
CEUs, and costs $100. Fees are split betw
een the College of Continuing Education and the M
ASE Center.
CEU courses are graded on a credit/no-credit basis. Professional
Developm
ent hours are also available, and SIRC qualifies for BTSA hours
-- talk to your BTSA coordinator.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPSSIRC workshops are designed with your needs in mind! All workshops are aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards. Instructors are university faculty and experienced Sacramento Area Science Project (SASP) teacher leaders. Attending SIRC will enrich your elementary, middle, or high school classroom by providing new tools and ways to think about teaching science.
