More than 400 people attended the event, to include Spangdahlem Airmen, families and local community leaders.

Lt. Gen. Craig A. Frank-lin, Third Air Force com-mander, presided over the

ceremony and spoke to the strengths of both the outgo-ing and incoming command-ers.

“A change of command is a wonderful event,” Franklin said. “It’s sad on one part, be-cause we’re saying goodbye to a wonderful commander, Brig. Gen. Chris Weggeman. But the feeling of excitement that comes with a change of command is from welcoming the new command team. And we’re very excited to wel-come Col. David Julazadeh.”

Sabers celebrate Independence Day

Super Saber Appreciation Day participants ride a swing here July 4. The event included a number of activities including pony rides, a carousel and swings, and two bouncy castles were available for younger children. The 52nd Force Support Squadron sponsored the event to celebrate Independence Day and show appreciation to the 52nd Fighter Wing community. Beer keg rolling contest A beer keg rolling contest takes place 2:30 p.m. July 7 at Tri-erer Strassein Bitburg. Teams compete to see how fast they can roll a keg down the street, guiding it through and around obstacles. Eight U.S. teams will compete this year: two teams from the 52nd Medical Group, three teams from the 606th Air Control Squadron, one team from the 52nd Civil Engineer Squadron’s fire department and two teams from Landstuhl Re-gional Medical Center. The win-ning team must then drink the entire keg. There is no entrance fee to attend the event.

360 Degree Fit Boot CampSign up now for 360 Degree Fit Boot Camp, which takes place Monday, Wednesday and Friday July 9 – Aug. 3 at the Skelton Memorial Fitness Center. Peo-ple can sign up for 6 a.m., 9 a.m. or 5:15 p.m. sessions. The cost is $135 per person. For more in-formation, email [email protected]

No Tap tournamentA No Tap bowling tournament takes place 5 p.m. July 20 at the Eifel Lanes Bowling Center. The cost is $25 per bowler and $20 for club members. Participants must be 18 or older. For more

Marriage enrichment classReserve seats by noon July 24 for a free marriage enrichment class, Lunch and Love, which takes place 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. July 26 at the airman and fam-ily readiness center. Austrian Mountain HikeSign up by Aug. 1 for a hut-to-hut hike that takes place Aug. 31 - Sept. 3 in Kirchdorf, Austria. The cost is $500 per person and includes three nights in a moun-tain hut, breakfast and dinner, a guide, and safety gear.
