2014-15Harford at a Glance:Located in Bel Air, Maryland, Harford Community College is a fully accredited, public, two-year comprehensive institution of higher education, addressing the diverse educational needs of Harford County. An open admission institution that views learning as a life-long activity, the College provides transfer and career programs and continuing education courses to challenge and support students regardless of age, color, disability, national origin, race, religion, sex or sexual orientation.

Harford is a full, Division I member of the National Junior College Athletic Association, sponsoring 14 varsity sports which compete in the NJCAA’s Region 20 in addition to conference competition in the Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference, commonly referred to as the MdJuco Conference. The intercollegiate athletic program provides the opportunity for eligible student-athletes to represent the institution in high-level competition, while enhancing their educational experience in areas of skill development, teamwork and sportsmanship. The teams also provide spectators and fans institutional pride as a rallying point for the college community and the Harford County area.

Outstanding facilities and coaches are a hallmark of the program. Harford’s teams are nicknamed the “Fighting Owls”, which was chosen during the institution’s early years, when it was largely an evening college and the nocturnal nature of the Owl represented that fact. The name has come to symbolize the long and storied history of athletics at the College.

Athletic Facilities:APG Federal Credit Union Arena (Basketball, Volleyball)

Opened in November, 2012, the Arena serves as the Fighting Owls’ home court. It is connected to the original home facility; the Susquehanna Center (1968), which was completely renovated as well. The 2,600-seat arena features primarily chairback seating for spectators, a center-hung scoreboard, various message boards, and state-of-the-art locker rooms and amenities. Visiting teams are asked to enter at the rear of the building, near the loading dock at Door 16.

Harford Stadium (Soccer, Lacrosse)A 1,000-seat artificial turf facility, the Stadium was built in 1968. An artificial turf surface was

installed in 2007 and covered bench areas in 2009. It is lighted for night games and contains a covered press box area. Visiting teams are asked to enter at the arched entry way off the T parking lot. Please call in advance if locker room space is needed.

Harford Ballpark (Baseball)An astroturf field was installed in late 2013, with a grandstand addition scheduled for early 2015

completion. The field is lighted for night play and features below-ground dugouts. The grandstand seats nearly 350 in charback seats while additional bleacher seating down the baselines bring total capacity to near 1000. An enclosed press box is atop the grandstand. A state-of-the-art electronic scoreboard display was installed in 2012. Teams are asked to use turf shoes during pregame activities. Entrance is through the arched gate off the T parking lot.

Complex Fields (Softball)The Softball Field has a dirt infield, grass outfield and ground-level dugouts, entirely updated for

2015. Bleacher seating for over 250 spectators and a covered press box are also available. In late 2008, an inning-by-inning scoreboard display which operates solely on solar power was added for softball. Entrance is through the arched gate off the T parking lot.

Tennis CourtsA new eight-court, hard-surface complex was built behind the APGFCU Arena in 2013. The courts

are in Harford colors and easily accessible to Susquahanna center lockers and faciliites.

Golf CourseHarford utilizes the Ruggles Golf Course off Exit 80 (Route 543) from I-95, adjacent to the Aberdeen

Proving Grounds.

Buses/Parking At Harford:Buses may drop off riders from any roadway or parking lot space. Bus parking is available at the T lot, between Thomas Run Road and the Harford Stadium.

Cars or vans at Harford Stadium events (soccer and lacrosse) and the Harford Sports Complex baseball and softball fields, may use the first, unmarked entrance or Entrance One off Thomas Run Road for the T parking lot. A walkway off the T lot through the arched entrance will take participants and fans to any of the outdoor venues. Visiting busses or vans for arena events (basketball and volleyball) need to drop off teams at the rear of the building at the loading dock. They may park there throughout the event.

All campus parking spaces, of which there are more than 2100, are open, except those designated by specific signage. The S and T lots are closest to the athletic facilities. Please observe all fire lane restrictions when parking any vehicle on campus.

Public Safety officers will issue tickets for traffic and parking violations. High speed driving, reckless driving, and failure to yield to pedestrians may result in revocation of operating privileges on campus in addition to a fine of $150.  The maximum speed limit on campus is 15 MPH.

Admission/Tickets/Scouting:Admission to most regular season sporting events at Harford, other than men’s and women’s basketball, is free. Basketball tickets cost $10 per person for reserved seats (center court chairback seats) and $6 for general admission.

Other select events, including most post-season athletic contests held at Harford Community College have varying ticket and admission policies.

Approved scouts may request passes for ticketed events by contacting the main athletic office at 443-412-2226.

The Harford Athletic Training Staff extends a warm welcome and the various services during your visit. There are training rooms located in the APG Federal Credit Union Arena for indoor events and Harford Sports Complex building, adjacent to the Harford Spots Complex, for outdoor contests.

Please notify our training staff prior to the day of the contest if your team will be traveling without a trainer and will need special services. A Certified Athletic Trainer will be accessible, and a physician and/or medical emergency facilities are quickly accessible. The training room staff is normally available at least one hour prior to any contest.

You are asked to bring your own training supplies. Water, ice, and basics will be accessible.

This information applies to all sports at your school which may be visiting our campus. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact the Harford Athletics Training Room.

Locker Rooms:Locker Rooms are available for events inside the APGFCU Arena. Visiting outdoor teams needing locker space are asked to contact Harford staff prior to the day of the game.

Small, bench towels are available for use, however visitors are asked to supply their own towels for showering.

Officials locker rooms are also available inside the APGFCU Arena and Susquehanna Center complex.

The Harford sports information office will provide visiting with complete game statistics. Results are reported to various Baltimore area media outlets in addition to posting on the Harford athletics website, www.harfordathletics.com. Various video clips, highlights and interviews are also posted at the site as well, along with game recaps and statistics. Numerical rosters and contest information will be provided as game program inserts.

Visiting team sports information directors may request that Harford phone in or fax results and highlights to other media outlets (please call Harford’s SID with such requests).

Athletic Media Coverage:The Harford Sports Network produces game broadcasts for some events, airing on commercial radio stations, WAMD 970-AM and the public radio WHFC 91.1-FM. Broadcasted games are also streamed on the internet with links accessible through www.harfordathletics.com. Also, the Harford Cable Network telecasts occasional contests on a tape-delayed basis. Game broadcasts are also archived at www.harfordathletics.com.

Most contests at Harford can also be followed via live play-by-play statistics through a Live Stats program, also accessible at www.harfordathletics.com.

Weather Information:When severe weather conditions require the College to alter its operating schedule, you may call our Emergency Notification Line (443) 412-2322, or visit our website www.harford.edu, for any emergency closing announcements. A lighting detector operates for outdoor events.

Fan Policies:Harford is committed to helping you enjoy your experience at each of our athletic venues. Please follow all following and posted guidelines when attending athletic events on the Harford Community College campus. Failure to adhere to any of the policies below will result in expulsion from the event.

PetsOnly service animals are allowed on campus. Pets are strictly prohibited at all Harford athletic facilities. No animals should be on the premises, tethered outside, or left to wander the grounds at any time.

Alcohol/TobaccoBoth alcohol and tobacco are strictly prohibited on the Harford campus during athletic contests. The possession or consumption of alcoholic beverages or tobacco products may result in dismissal from the venue.
