BRAIN BREAK - have a rest from schoolwork for 10 minutes TEN- Find a deck of cards. The picture cards will all be the number 10. Duration - Get mum or dad to help you with this activity – they will need a timer. They need to start the timer and you need to sit still until you think a minute has passed and the stand up.

Months and Seasons- Write down all the months of the year on flash cards. Can you put the months of the year in the correct order? Once the months are in the correct order ask someone from your family to remove a card or two while your eyes are shut. Once they are opened try and guess which months are missing. Do you know the seasons of the year? Can you match them up with the months of the year? Create a ‘Seasons’ picture book. In your book make sure you include the months that are in that season. You might like to draw special things that happen during that season as well.

one-page calendar (You might like to research what this looks like). Include the names of the month, days and dates. Double check that you have the dates on the write days, mum/dad might need to help with this. On your calendar colour the weekdays and weekends using different colours. Write down any important things that happen during that month. Some example questions mum/dad can ask you about your calendar: What is seven days after the 13th? What date is two weeks before the 25th? What is the date of the last day of the month?

Compare these activities. Which took the longest? Which took the shortest time? Choose another method of measuring how long an event takes other than clapping. Estimate how long it will take you to do each event. Use your method to measure the duration of three events. e.g. ‘Maddison clapped her hands 25 times while I coloured the picture’.

Now using a timer, time yourself sitting still for a minute. Was it longer or shorter than you thought? Do the below activities and record how many times each can be done in one minute: - I can jump - I can write my name - I can draw a cat - I can sharpen a pencil - I can bounce a ball

Write the headings ‘seconds’, ‘minutes’, ‘hours’ and ‘days’ down. Record activities that take each amount of time. brushing teeth - mins school day - hours eating dinner - mins
