Free to Love It’s truly an honor to have received such a warm welcome from St. Paul’s parish these past couple of weeks; thank you all! I’ve been very impressed how life-filled this parish is and how clearly the Holy Spirit is moving here. I pray I may be a contribution to what the Spirit has planned for St. Paul’s. The joy of Christmas is finally upon us as we celebrate one of the principle mysteries of our faith: Christ’s incarnation. The Son of God has taken on human nature to sanctify the human race from within (cf. Phil 2:7-11). This is the deep truth we celebrate every Christmas. The gift God the Father gave humanity—his Son—is reflected in the gifts we give our children. The attitude of humble acceptance of God’s grace is strengthened every time we joyfully receive a gift from one of our friends or family members. Our Christmas carols echo the songs sung by the angels as they announced the arrival of our Savior to the shepherds (cf. Lk 2:13). By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for the sake of sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, so that the righteous decree of the law might be fulfilled in us, who live not according to the flesh but according to the spirit. Romans 8:3 By becoming human, Christ wished to sanctify human nature so that we be truly free to give ourselves in love for our family and friends. He has paved the way for us! There is truly hope! We must continue to believe that the Holy Spirit is changing our hearts slowly but surely, especially each time we receive the Sacraments. Christmas is a time to renew our hope in humanity: we can be better people by God’s help. He is calling us to conversion today, and our conversion starts by being servants to those closest to us. Have a merry Christmas, Fr. Jeff

LETTER FROM OUR ASSOCIATE PASTOR CARTA DE NUESTRO ASOCIADO PASTOR

Our Advent time is almost over. We have watched in hope for the coming of Christ at the end of time. We have seen the presence of Christ and God’s Kingdom among us wherever justice and peace triumph over violence and alienation. Now we focus on Mary and the intimacy of birth. Carrying any child requires courage, faith and trust. Every mother wonders about the future of her child. God transforms all of human history by becoming human through Mary’s “Yes!” Like her, will we allow the very fullness of God’s love to fill us and our world this year? Do we have her faith, her cour-age and her trust?
