PreSchool Storytimes: The Letter Children learn language by listening and being involved in the conversation. The more words you share with your child through everyday speech, the more ready they'll be to recognize words when they read. Discuss what you are doing together, what you have done, and what you will do. Singing helps your child understand how words are broken down. Singing different speeds, clapping along, and substituting words will help them hear the sounds within each word. Try singing at least one song every day, and making it a part of your routine tasks together. Reading with your children will show them how books work and get them familiar with text. It will also help them understand the world around them and expand their vocabulary. Children who are read to grow to love reading on their own. Reading and writing are a perfect match! Practicing tracing letters and shapes, and maybe even drawing them on their own, will help develop your child's fine motor skills and prepare them to understand that letters stand for the sounds they hear. Playing isn't just for fun - it helps your child learn to express themselves and solve problems. It also helps children think symbolically, so they can see words and thoughts can represent real experiences and physical objects. HELP YOUR CHILD GET READY TO READ!
