Mrs. Pat worked for Oakland County and Mr. Pat a sales representative for the automotive industry. After 39 years, they moved back “home” in 1999. The Gardners quickly immersed themselves in the St. Mary community. Mrs. Pat helps clean the church, works the Annual Dinner and can be seen at daily Mass. Mr. Pat is a member of the Building & Site Committee, attends most athletic events and rolls up his sleeves whenever help is needed: Annual Dinner, bus driver, school maintenance, etc. The two were honored at the 2007 Sweetheart Dinner for their service to our community. A long, arduous journey was realized on Palm Sunday as the

senior class made their way to Charleston to fulfill their mission.

Sure, it’s a long way to West Virginia, but I am talking about a

journey years in the making. When I was assigned to this class

5 years ago, I was greeted with unlimited potential, but also a

quirky group whose greatest strength lies with their cohesive-

ness. There is never a dull or unfulfilling moment with the Class

of 2017, and all of their investments through the years came to

fruition on their Senior Mission Trip.

Eternal bonds were formed with our friends in Charleston. From

the children at the Mel Wolf Children’s Development Center, to

the women living at the Shanklin shelter, and even our guides

at Ace Adventure to whom we trusted our lives, we fully real-

ized the empathy of which Jesus himself lived by building unforgettable relation-

ships. With only days left until graduation, I know for certain that the Class of 2017

is ready to go forth and make change to this world, but I guess I

don’t know if I’m ready to let go. It is with gratitude that I say
