opportunities for training. In 1977 after 14 years of

marriage they were blessed with abeautiful daughter. In 1979 theywere divorced. She continued towork with the VA in Little Rock andin 1981 she was given theopportunity to move to Wash.,D.C., and work in the VA CentralOffice. There she worked thru theVA with other Federal agencies,Congress, the White House and VAregional offices around thecountry. She traveled to many partsof the country where she arrangedconferences and training sessionsfor the Compensation and PensionService of the VA. She was theExecutive Assistant for the Directorof that service for several years. Sheretired in 1997 and continued tolive in Arlington, VA. Her daughterwas in college at the time.

In 1998 she moved to Texarkana,TX, where her sister and her

husband lived to help carefor her elderly mother. Shebought a house and aftergetting settled decided tovolunteer at churchanswering the phone and wasoffered the job of businessmanager. It was a largechurch with over 2000members and in the midst ofa large building project. Sinceher daughter was still incollege she took the job forfour more years. That secondtime, retirement wassuccessful. She decided it wastime to take it easy and notset an alarm clock againunless absolutely necessary.

Bobbie says she canhonestly never rememberbeing bored a day in her life. She was always a voraciousreader, usually with adictionary nearby in case sheran across a word she did notknow. She said, “I usuallyhave a book in my purse if Iam out and find I have freetime.” She has always beenactive in church and sheplays piano (mostly churchmusic) and has played inchurch since an early age. Shevolunteered with the humanesociety, and other service andyouth organizations. She hasbeen fortunate enough totravel to England and

Scotland and go on cruisesthat involved visits to Alaskaand portions of eastern Canadaand Nova Scotia.

Bobbie is a dog person. Forthe last 53 years she has haddachshunds of almost everyshape, size and color. Shepresently has a 6-year-old redpiebald miniature dachshundname “Chloe.” Someday shesays she will tell her that she isa dog and it will be a shock toher system!

How did she arrive atSommerset? After her motherpassed away, she reevaluatedher life and determined she wasnot satisfied seeing so little ofher daughter and family, thosetwo beautiful grandchildren. Not able to drive or maintain ayard without help, and beingan independent “cuss” she

decided to move into aretirement community with allits advantages. Her daughter livesin Herndon and after visitingother options in the area, shedecided on Sommerset and hasnot been disappointed.
