Simon said in reply, "Master, we have worked

your command I will lower the nets." When they
had done this, they caught a great number of fish

Women’s Guild Meeting
The Women’s Guild is meeting on Tuesday, February
9 at 6:30 pm. All women of the parish are invited to
come to a delightful evening of entertainment and ca-
maraderie.
Lenten Almsgiving
The three themes or practices of Lent are Prayer, Fast-
ing, and Almsgiving. St. Joseph Parish and Catholic
Relief Services (CRS) is again sponsoring a program
to help you participate in two of the practices. At the
entrances of the church, you will find Rice Bowls for
each family to take home and assemble. If each mem-
ber of the family would fast by not buying and con-
suming that extra cup of coffee, soda, candy bar, etc.
and place the value in the Rice Bowl, they would be
fasting and giving alms. The funds are divided 25% to
the diocese and 75% to CRS worldwide food pro-
grams. Please take one home and join the effort to
end hunger.

Respect Life Corner
Marriage-It Makes a Difference — Marriage is a gift
from God to men, women, children, and society. In
marriage, a husband and wife form an exclusive and
lifelong bond, forge a shared financial future, promise
to take care of each other “in sickness and in health,”
and provide a stable and loving home for any children
they are blessed with.
Learn, Act, Connect, Pray: Children raised by mar-
ried parents tend to enjoy more stability, more finan-
cial resources, more consistent discipline, and more
attention than their peers in other families. To learn
more about how marriage can make a difference, go to
www.foryourmarriage.org. Pray that we recognize that
marriage is truly a gift from God.
Jubilee of Mercy
Lent is almost here.
Forty special Days for extraordinary fasting, praying,
giving. We will fast to sharpen our senses. We will
pray to focus our attention on God in Christ. We will
give up some things and give away more things, in or-
der to give ourselves over to a Christian life of com-
passion and mercy
• This Lent, I want to....
• This Lent, I need to....

Black and Indian Mission Collection
Next week, our parish will take up the 131
st
annual Na-
tional Black and Indian Mission Collection. Our sup-
port of this collection helps build the Church in Afri-
can American, Native American and Alaska Native
communities from coast to coast. Schools, parish reli-
gious education programs, and diocesan ministries de-
pend on your generosity to help them spread the Gos-
pel of Jesus Christ!
Lenten Regulations
1. Everyone 14 years of age or over is bound to ab-
stain from meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday
and all Fridays of Lent.
2. Everyone 18 years of age and under 59 years of
age is also bound to fast on Ash Wednesday and
Good Friday.
3. On these two days of fast and abstinence, only
one full meatless meal is allowed. The other
meatless meals, sufficient to maintain strength,
may be taken according to one’s needs, but alto-
gether they should not equal another full meal.
Eating between meals is not permitted on these
two days, but liquids, including milk and fruit
juices are allowed. When health or ability to
work would be seriously affected, the obligation
of the law is modified. Because Lent is a special
season for all Christians, we should not lightly
excuse ourselves from these penitential practices.
4. To completely disregard the law of fast and absti-
nence is seriously sinful.

Message from TDF
Evangelization, Stewardship & Community Building
Repent and believe in the Gospel.
This is the admonition that you and I receive on Ash Wednesday when the ashes are smeared
on our foreheads. In this Jubilee of Mercy, I look forward to this Lenten season as a time to
examine my life and to seek mercy and forgiveness from the loving Father and reconciliation
with those whom I have wounded by sins. This is an ongoing process. Lent is a time of prayer
– not doing prayers, but rather living in an ongoing conversation with the Lord. Lent is a time
of fasting – not just giving-up something, but rather a time of stripping away that which dis-
tracts. Lent is a time alms-giving – not only a financial offering, but rather the generous shar-
ing of my time and talent. This season is an opportunity to journey with the Lord and with one
another on the Way of the Cross to the glory of the Resurrection – dying and rising. This season is an opportunity
to deepen my appreciation of the Good News – my relationship with the Lord.

The Force was with us at the Youth Ministry Trivia Nite. Table six, at which I had a chair, took first place. It was
great to have shared in the fun and friendship of the evening. My sincere thanks is extended to all who participate
in the evening and all those who worked to make it such an enjoyable evening.

Congratulations to all the wedding anniversary couples who are celebrating special anniversaries in 2016. Your
love is a witness of God’s loving presence in our midst.

A sincere thanks to Joann Banwarth, Christina Hines and Sam Hood the retiring officers of the Pastoral Council
and congratulations to the newly elected officers: Sue Humphrey, Elizabeth Huhman and
Debbie Bertrand.

This past week I celebrated my 71
st
birthday. I received a card from my sister and brother-
in-law, Jeannie and Marc. On which was the follow words of “wisdom”: “I asked the
wise man on the mountain the secret of a long life. As my Birthday gift to you, I’d like to
pass along his infinite words of wisdom … ‘Keep Breathing As Long As Possible!’”
Thank you all for your kind greetings and love and support.
