Brethren, glory and honor and peace for everyone who does good, the Jew first and also the Greek. For God shows no partiality. All who have sinned without the Law will also perish without the Law, and all who have sinned under the Law will be judged by the Law. For it is not the hearers of the Law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the Law who will be justified. When Gentiles who have not the Law do by nature what the Law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the Law. They show that what the Law requires is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness and their conflicting thoughts accuse or perhaps excuse them on that day when, according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus.

GOSPEL

THE SYNAXARIONOn June 21st in the Holy Orthodox Church, we commemorate the holy Martyr Julian of

Tarsus.

Bearing Julian as goods worthy of Heaven,The sack into the midst of the sea doth plummet.

On the twenty-first, Julian in a sack was sacrificed.Of a noble senatorial family, Julian was only 18 years old when he was taken to trial for

the Faith. But Julian was already educated and resolute in Christian faith and devotion. The imperial governor took him from city to city for a whole year, torturing him all the while and attempting to persuade him to renounce Christ. The governor seized Julian’s mother and sent her to urge her son to renounce Christ. She spent three days in prison with him, giving him precisely the opposite advice, teaching him to go to his death with courage and gratitude to God. His torturers then sewed Julian into a sack of sand with scorpions and snakes and threw him into the sea, and his mother also died under torture. The waves carried Julian’s body onto the shore, and the faithful took it to Alexandria, where they buried it in 290. His relics were later taken to Antioch.

On this day, we also commemorate the Martyr Aphrodisius of Cilicia; and New-martyr Nikita of Nisyros near Rhodes. By their intercessions, O Christ God, have mercy upon us. Amen.

June 14, 2020 Dear Saint George Church Family, Glory to Jesus Christ! Glory forever! On behalf of the Saint George Parish Council and the Finance Committee, we hope this finds you and your families safe and well. It has been several weeks since our last letter and during that time we continue to navigate unprecedented times. While we’ve been able to continue our spiritual growth through different electronic means, we can’t ignore the challenges we face. We feel it is imperative that we communicate very transparently and straightforward with you on the current financial situation of the parish. While this isn’t always comfortable, we know it’s critically important. Please see the abbreviated financial table below:

As you can see, we are currently projecting a deficit of $40,000. We have collected income of approximately $157,000 so far this year. As we’ve driven our costs as low as possible, we will need to collect $174,000 during the remainder of the year in order to break even. This is driven mainly by the anticipated reduced fundraising, reduced hall rental and the significant reduction in parishioner tithing. We are proactively working on our fundraising opportunities, but we also need the current parishioner giving. We are in need of your continued support to fulfill your pledged tithing if you are currently giving or your renewed support as you are financially able. Saint George Church is strong and will continue to be so together as a community.

The Parish Council and the various committees continue to watch expenses and work on decisions that are in the best interest of the Church. While we do that, the importance on continuing to bring in revenue is vital to being able to meet our expenses. “It is really hard, and unreal, to parti cipate in the Divine Liturgy by watching it on a device in your home. It’s easy to get distracted, to get up and get something, or to do several things at once. I urge you to resist these temptati ons as you watch.

Here are practi cal ti ps to get the most out of the live-streamed services:

• Before the ti me, place your device (phone, television, computer, tablet) on or near your icon corner; OR, surround your device with one or more icons.

• Turn off all possible distracti ons (phone, noti fi cati ons, oven, alarms, etc.)

• Like you do before church, take care of all personal needs beforehand.

• Dress like you would for a regular Sunday Liturgy. (Casual clothes may encourage a casual, non-prayerful a� tude.)

• Follow your regular pa� ern for maintaining the Eucharisti c fast; refrain from food, coff ee, etc. unti l a� er the Liturgy.

• Sing/speak along with us, in whatever way you normally would do during the Liturgy.

• As you are able, stand, sit, and kneel as you normally would do during the Liturgy.

• Finally, resist the urge to off er any comments online unti l a� er the service is over.

In short, I encourage you to make these few hours a ti me of sincere devoti on and worship.”
