Through the Basic Competency Programme (BCP), roofers will be able to apply for a red, experienced worker CSCS card (valid for three years) and go on to achieve a Level 2 NVQ roofing qualification. This is a collaborative project which brings together four roofing federations: The National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC), Single Ply Roofing Federations (SPRA), Liquid Roofing Waterproofing Association (LRWA) and the Federation of Traditional Metal Roofing Contractors (FTMRC) and coordinated by the Roofing Industry Alliance (RIA). For the first time, the vital contribution that manufacturers play in training the roofing industry is being formally recognised. The BCP is formalising manufacturers’ training and links it to a nationally recognised roofing NVQ qualification. The programme supports training, competencies and qualifications via the approved BCP manufacturer training in all roofing disciplines: flat, metal and pitched roofing. What are the Benefits to the Employer? A more knowledgeable, competent and multi-skilled employee. An employee who will be partly committed to obtaining a VQ. All training will be recognised within the industry and by CITB and delivered by a team of qualified providers. Assessment time could be reduced on the OSAT route. The generic element can count towards a SUP, again saving training days. Employees will have an enhanced CV which is likely to improve the opportunity of increased business. More trained individuals installing the system products, which can be added to the specification commitment to housing associations, local authorities, etc. Links with additional websites: LRWA, RIA, NFRC, FTMRC, SPRA and CITB, giving a greater social media presence. What are the benefits to the individual? 3 Years Red Experienced Worker CSCS Card. The gaining of generic knowledge that can be taken into other roofing sectors. The completion of a recognised training programme with a certificate at the end. A contribution towards the assessment criteria of a vocational qualification with the mapping of specific elements across the programme. Give the individual a better understanding of the roofing industry. Ensure a more competent operative when installing the manufacturers’ products. Will become a benefit to the employer’s workforce by improving their CV. Will already have the exposure to a VQ giving them encouragement to stay in the roofing industry and further vocation. Provide exposure to a VQ, encouraging them to further progress in the roofing industry as a vocation.

Basic Competency Programme

About BCP ProjectThe Roofing Industry Alliance has launched a major three-year investment with CITB, whichwill support over 5000 roofing operatives to undertake formalised manufacturer training.

Applying for the 3 Years RedExperienced Worker CSCS CardTo apply for the 3 Year Red Experienced Worker CSCS card you need to prove you have completed the BCP training with an approved BCP Manufacturer.

To apply for your own CSCS card you need to take and pass the CITB Health,Safety and Environment Test - Working at Heights. The test costs £19.50. There is more information about booking the test on www.cscs.uk.com/applying-for-cards/health-and-safety-test/ or you can call 0344 994 4488.

Apply by Phone:Once you have passed the correct CITB Health, Safety and Environment test - Working at Heights, please call the CSCS Contact Centre on 0344 994 4777.

Before you ring, please ensure you have:

• Emailed a copy of your BCP Certificate to [email protected]. You will need to call CSCS within 5 working days ofsending your copy of your qualification as their system automatically deletes emails after this time.

• a credit or debit card to pay £30 for the card

• your current or previous employer’s details including contact name, company name and telephone number

Your card will usually be dispatched on the next working day.

Applying via Post:Alternatively you can download an application form, complete it and return it along with the requireddocumentation and payment to: CSCS, PO Box 114, Bircham Newton, King's Lynn, Norfolk, PE31 6XD

Please note that postal applications can take up 20 working days.

Applying via the Employer Application Form (email):If you are an employer applying for CSCS cards on behalf of other people you can complete the CSCS EmployerApplication Form and e-mail it to CSCS at [email protected] . This will mean that multiple applications can bemanaged by one person in your organisation and they can be paid for in one transaction.

For each application submitted you will need to enclose proof of passing the CITB Health, Safety andEnvironment test – Working at Heights, you will also need to include evidence of a BCP training.

The person named on the form will then be contacted so that payment may be collected and any queries resolved prior to cards being dispatched.

This process will take 10 working days.

IMPORTANT NOTE:The Experienced Worker card is not renewable and will expire after 3 years. Instead, you can apply for a blue "Skilled Worker" CSCS card provided you have achieved the NVQ2 in Roofing Occupations during that period.

NB: Please note that the 3 years red experienced worker CSCS card is available to roofingoperatives with on the job experience (normally at least one year in the last three).

CSCS Cards are increasingly required to get onto a construction site. They provide proof that individuals working onsite have the required training and qualifications for the type of work they carry out.

Successful completion of a Basic Competency Programme (BCP) and a valid CITB Health, Safety & Environment Test(HSE) will allow the trainee to register for a (red) Experienced Worker Card.

NB: Please note that you will need your copy of the BCP certificate to submit to the CSCS when you are applying for the 3 Years Red Experienced Worker CSCS Card. Also that the 3 years red experienced worker CSCS card is available to roofing operatives with on the job experience (normally at least one year in the last three).
