The glorius evening sunshine matched the mood of the Clanns players as they relished the fine playing surface which Sean Moore Park provided. Building on their 0-13 to 0-4 half-time lead, a particularly fine goal from Evan Caulfield appeared to have put the game well beyond the visitors’ reach. However, to their credit they battled on and soon registered their own goal from the penalty spot. But a number of fine saves thereafter from Niall Lavery in goal helped to ensure that victory was always going to rest with the hosts. Well our minor footballers certainly confirmed that last weekend when they put five goals past their visitors, St. Catherines with the Hennessy brothers, Conor and Michael, contributing their fair share to that total. Played in Ringsend Park on a sunny Saturday afternoon, the match was open and free flowing with Clanns ability not just to register points but to find the back of the net the important difference in the final score. The result sees the team sitting in third spot in the Division 3 league table after eight matches played, five of which they have won. Their next outing is at home to St Annes on Wednesday 10 th July at 19.30hrs all support is most welcome. Clanna Gael Fontenoy 5-11 St Catherines 1-14

Adult hurlers show the way Our Junior hurlers certainly helped their promotion prospects with a fine win over Na Fianna on Sunday morning in Ringsend Park. Going into the final quarter of the game Clanns appeared to be coasting to a comfortable win only to be hit for two goals in as many minutes. Faced with a diminished three-point lead, they nonetheless responded immediately with a further goal of their own to steady the ship and seal the victory.

There were quite a number of good performances to savour, but those from Cian O’Regan and John Cleary in defence, Sean Dwyer in midfield and Barry Walsh and Philip Twomey in attack were particularly good. Clanna Gael Fontenoy 4-15 Na Fianna 3-12

U13 hurlers top their league

What a great finish to the pre-summer part of the season for our U13 hurlers. They remain unbeaten to date and, as a result, sit atop of the Division 4 league table. This follows their most recent victory where they got the better of St Kevins by two points. Both teams played fabulous hurling in a sunny Dolphin Park, but Clanns had the advantage come the final whistle. Great credit is due to the players themselves and to their coaches, Oran Burke and Eamon Horan. Feeding the Dublin hurling pipeline While Dublin hurling is looking good at senior level with the boys in blue still going strong in the All-Ireland championship, the pipeline is looking even better if the ‘Mini All-Ireland’ hurling/camogie tournament organised in Sean Moore Park is anything to go by. Traditionally a football-only event which this year involved over 300 girls and boys, this year saw the introduction of a hurling/camogie competition and this attracted a further 160 young participants.

Each team was assigned a county, assigned to a group and kitted out with t-shirts in that county’s colours - kindly sponsored by Dublin City Council, Bennetts Auctioneers and FT Consulting. “The quality of play was a real standout and augurs well for the future of Dublin hurling; as was the benefit of mixing boys and girls in the older age groups”, stated Eoghan Heneghan who, along with Christina Deevy, did a great job in heading up the club’s organising group.

U12 girls blitz opposition There was no shortage of class on display last weekend in the U12 girls’ blitz hosted by the club. Visiting teams from Cuala and St Judes certainly added to that class and colour. But it was the manner in which Clanns won all six of their matches that really stood out on the day.

Magical end of season

As an end-of-season treat, these 2013 and 2014 players were treated to a magician show in the club hall – while out in ‘the cage’ their parents received some useful coaching tips from our Games Development Officer.
