Championship win for U16 hurlers The first round of the championship saw our U16 Isles of the Sea hurlers (Clanns and Socil Uí Chonaill combined) score an emphatic win against a visiting Setanta team. If the first half proved a relatively even contest - with our lads leading 1-8 to 0-5 at half time – they completely dominated the second half and limited the opposition to a single point. Fortunately, just a small number of players were missing and the performance showed just how strong a team this can be when a near full squad is available. Every one of the 20 players utilised played a good game, with particularly strong performances from Conor Hennessy who kept a clean sheet in goal, Colm O’Briain who was impervious at full back, Des Duggan and Karl Morgan who lorded midfield and David Kennedy and James Crowley who tormented the Setanta defence.

David Kennedy gets away from his marker and sets off on one of his trademark solo runs – with Scott Collopy close by in support.

Special mention must also go to Kevin McGrath, Matthew O’Rourke and Conor Power who travelled back specially from Irish college in Achill Island (courtesy of driver, Barbara O’Rourke) to play their part in the victory. It was also heartening to see Josh Hogan back in hurling action after suffering a bad arm break earlier in the season. The team now face O’Tooles in the next round which will take place at home on Saturday 3rd September. All of the players would benefit greatly from and appreciate the fullest possible support. Squad: Conor Henessy, Niall Madill, Colm O’Briain, Conor Power, Brian Barron, Conor Rimmer, Matthew O’Rourke, Des Duggan, Karl Morgan, James Crowley, David Kennedy, Cillian McCarthy, Kevin McGrath, Scott Collopy, Patrick McNamara, Cian O’Regan, Stephen Deering, Josh Hogan and Harry O’Sullivan. Festival survival tips

Music festivals are often a highlight of the summer/autumn season for many music fans of all ages. Here are some quick tips to avoid common health hazards. 1. Alcohol - if you drink alcohol,

remember to stay within the recommended limits. Alcohol dehydrates the body so remember to drink plenty of water and always keep a spare bottle back tent.

2. Medication - first aiders on site are not allowed to hand out prescription drugs so remember to bring any prescription medication you take and take it as prescribed. Bringing some extra over the counter medicines like paracetamol can help with headaches and hangovers and Dioralyte helps prevent dehydration.

3. Personal hygiene - reduce the risk of picking up or spreading germs that can cause sickness and diarrhoea by washing your hands before eating and after going to the toilet. Bring baby wipes or antibacterial gel in your bag as many festivals don’t have running water at the toilets.

4. Foot health - festivals can be hard on your feet from spending the day standing or dancing. It’s important to keep your feet clean and dry to prevent blisters and fungal infections. Wear wellies in bad weather!

5. Ears - wear earplugs when close to loud speakers and take regular breaks from loud music to give your ears a break.

6. Sun health - wear a minimum of SPF15 to protect the skin from sunburn. If you get burned apply after sun lotion and drink plenty of water to avoid sun stroke.

7. Bring appropriate clothing such as waterproofs for rain and warm clothes for night time when the temperature drops.
