When you’re after windows and doors for your home, you want something that looks good and works well.

At Rylock® Windows and Doors, these two priorities have always stayed top of mind in all of the aluminium joinery we design. It’s been that way since 1954.

We understand there are many factors that need to be considered when choosing the right windows and doors, like indoor-outdoor flow, temperature control and sound reduction, safety and security, functionality and style. That is why we are proud to supply the innovative Euroslider®, Eurostacker® and Foldback® Bifold along with a multitude of other window and door options from the Pacific Suite® and Atlantic Suite® through to double glazing, tinting, thermally broken joinery and passive ventilation.

So let’s talk about the kind of life you want to enjoy in your home - and how Rylock® Windows and Doors can provide cost effective and practical design solutions to suit.

Choosing the right doors and windows should never be just an afterthought when building a new home.

By selecting the appropriate door and window configurations, it can hugely influence the entire look, feel and liveability of your home. A great example of this is the superb property on Omaha Beach, north of Auckland where the owners wanted to make the most of the wonderful ocean views and immediate beach access. Atlantic High Performance Suite Eurostackers were chosen for the beach facing side and also the back of the home. This created a unique feature, which is the ability to sit outside at the back of the home and look through both sets of Eurostackers and still enjoy the magnificent coastal views.

Colin of Leuschke Group Architects explains – “Because the property is in a very windy area, we specified Atlantic Eurostackers as not only are they robust, they are so easy to slide, especially with the weather changing so quickly and the need to open and close regularly.”

The Atlantic Eurostackers flush sill prevents sand gathering in the tracks, which means they’re easy to clean, a great complement to the low maintenance concrete floors. Another feature is double glazing, which keeps the temperature cooler in summer and warmer in winter, which is so important in New Zealand.

The right doors and windows for your home will not only look great and add value but with a bit of thought, they can transform your living experience.

ABOVE Atlantic High Performance Suite Eurostackers create a seven metre opening either side. TOP LEFT The chevron track at the sill allows door panels to slide effortlessly. TOP RIGHT The corridor is cleverly connected to the outdoors via a full height glass facade. CENTRE LEFT Narrow floor to ceiling windows provide natural light and spectacular views. CENTRE RIGHT Opaque glass provides privacy as well as natural light. BOTTOM RIGHT Atlantic Eurostackers with overlights provide magnificent views.

New Zealanders are fortunate in being blessed with an abundance of coastline they can readily access. When building a property by the beach, having the right windows and doors to enjoy the views but also to withstand the wind should be one of your first priorities.

When the owners of this north of Auckland, Langs Beach property sat down to plan their new family home, it was imperative the windows and doors selected would help cool the house in summer and maintain the warmth in winter. With 12 Eurosliders, multiple Awning Windows and Hinged Doors from the Pacific Thermal Suite, all using specialty double glazed glass, they were able to achieve this goal. The Euroslider® is a great option for increased weathertightness because of the outside sliding door panel, meaning the wind pushes onto the glass and ultimately the walls.

Ron Houben of Rylock – “The Eurosliders are unbelievably easy to slide when you consider the heavy double glazed units used. It’s just incredibly easy to use, which is important particularly for older people.”

Throughout the home a uniform consistency was achieved through the use of colour matched Malta™ hardware window and door handles which not only look strong and stylish but from an ergonomic point of view, they’re extremely easy to use.

It may require a bit of extra time, but choosing the right windows and doors for your home is worth it. It will help keep the comfort of your home at a healthy and even temperature plus they’ll look great and improve the value of your investment for everyone’s enjoyment.

When the owners of this brand new executive holiday home on the outskirts of Queenstown were planning their idyllic and unique getaway, they knew that by choosing the right doors they would be able to maximise the views of the stunning Remarkables mountain range.

Bifold Doors were chosen for their maximum opening potential, leading from the living and dining room out onto the patio area. Being able to effortlessly step from inside and then outdoors to this large space was an important consideration, especially with family and friends wanting to make the most of the beautiful, world-class setting.

Stackers in the bedroom and living area were chosen for an easy point of entry to and from the courtyard area. Double glazed, grey tinted glass was used, with a gravel powdercoated finish.

The local council has strict rules on building materials used, with everything having to blend in and compliment the natural environment, so the owners had to be mindful of this right from the outset.

Ricky Facoory of Rylock, Canterbury – “They’ve got the balance right, between form and function. With the bifold doors and the stackers, they not only look great but they’re also very practical to use.”

With a bit of thought and careful planning, the right doors can really enhance the looks, ease of living and value of your home.

Pacific Architectural Suite – 40mm PlatformPreferred for larger, high quality, architecturally designed family homes in difficult locations. It complements well chosen materials, fixtures and fittings and can easily handle big units with vast glazing expanses.

The Pacific Architectural Suite is ideal for larger applications or difficult sites where performance is important. It complements a wider range of quality hardware, such as Cavalier, Roma, Cubico, or Malta™. The glass used is likely to be a special type and carefully chosen because of large expanses of glass. Some windows in utility areas may be chosen from the Pacific Residential Suite purely for function, whilst maintaining aesthetics and not disrupting the architectural intent of such a house. Alternatively, the Atlantic may be the product of choice for one or two bigger units requiring extreme performance and weight carrying ability or used to majestically complete the glazed showcase that is the focus of the home.

The sliding door unit sizes here can be up to 2.8m, or higher depending on the unit type and application.

Ideal for larger, high quality, architecturally designed family homes in challenging locations. the Pacific thermal Suite improves thermal insulation and virtually eliminates condensation.

The Pacific Thermal Suite is the perfect solution for a more comfortable, warmer and drier home. In many new homes double glazing is now standard. It allows the sun’s heat and light to pass through the window and has the benefit of being able to retain or resist the heat and improve the comfort levels in your home.

The Pacific Thermal Suite can add an additional 25% of heat retention to what double glazing alone can provide. This is achieved through a thermally broken frame. Unlike standard aluminium joinery which is highly conductive the frame has a thermal barrier (polyamide strip system) which prevents heat or cold transfer, considerably reducing the chance of condensation, thus keeping the inside of your home warmer, drier and more comfortable.

Sleek, contemporary lines delineate the Pacific Thermal Suite, while innovative features like the use of patented Smoothtech™ sill systems add aesthetic practicality allowing function and form to go hand in hand.

Glass Choice

Glass plays a unique and important role in building design and the environment. It affects design, appearance, thermal performance and comfort. The selection of the right glass is a crucial component of the design process.

There are three main areas to consider when thinking about windows and glazing for your project:

•  Natural light - You want to enjoy natural light while controlling UV and glare.

•  Solar heat gain - Homes benefit from the natural warming effect of solar heat, but you also want to maintain a comfortable temperature inside and not overheat in summer

•  Thermal insulation - Heat flows relatively easily through ordinary glass. In low winter temperatures, you want to select glass that reduces heat loss to the outside, saving on heating costs while reducing greenhouse gases. In high summer temperatures you may want to restrict heat gain to the inside and save on cooling costs

Double glazing using Insulating Glass Units (IGU) with air or argon gas, clear tinted and/or Low-E glass address these 3 main areas.

Double glazing offers a level of safety and security that traditional windows cannot match. Many IGUs will come with laminated or toughened safety glass reducing the chance of injury.

Modern low-emissivity glass (Low-E) will allow the sun’s heat and light to pass through the glass into the building, but it will prevent the heat from leaving the room. This considerably reduces heat loss and therefore improves the comfort levels in your home. It also helps in summer by reducing solar heat gain.

Double glazing provides a sound buffer against noises such as traffic and noisy neighbours. By using double glazing and a combination of special acoustic laminated glass types, the noise can be reduced by up to 55% of its previous level.

In New Zealand’s harsh UV climate, fading of floors, furnishings and carpets can be a significant problem. Double glazing with its glass combinations reduce the amount of UV light entering your home. Tinted, and laminated glasses provide the best performance.

Passive Ventilation

With new requirements in the building code demanding more thermally efficient homes via thermal insulation in walls and ceilings and under floors as well as double glazing, homes are trapping a lot more heat with nowhere to go.

Passive ventilation allows rooms to ventilate while windows and doors are closed. The system is completely built into the window or door frame, hidden from view. This reduces condensation and provides a healthy air exchange. The vent slide is fully adjustable from the inside and the outer vent includes an insect proof mesh.

Anodised Joinery

We offer a range of anodised colour finishes including; natural, black, bronze and champagne. For more colour options speak to your local fabricator.

Anodising does not chip or peel and provides good stability to ultraviolet rays which are particularly important here in New Zealand.

Anodising allows the aluminium to maintain its metallic appearance, highlighting its natural characteristics. Because the anodising process is a reinforcement of a naturally occurring oxide process, it is non-hazardous and produces no harmful or dangerous by-products.

We also offer a Sheer Anodised™ finish, the ultimate in joinery finishes. Its fine matte surface exhibits a less grainy surface providing sharper clarity and reduced reflectivity.

Sheer Anodised™ is achieved via a two step process. A high-pressure bead blast is applied to the aluminium surface for a smoother texture; the aluminium is then anodised resulting in a lustre free surface.

Sheer Anodised™ is ideal for a durable and enhanced finish on all exterior and interior architectural joinery surfaces.

Our anodised finishes comply with the Window Association of New Zealand Voluntary Specification: WANZ SFA 3503-03, along with most other international specifications.

Powdercoated Joinery

We offer a wide range of powdercoated colours to complement any style of home or cladding colour. Our popular Colourscape™ range features 31 of New Zealand’s most preferred joinery colours.

Powdercoating is known as a ‘thick film’ coating – generally between 60 and 120 microns thick. Wet paint coatings achieve a film thickness of around 25 microns.

A process called electrostatic application applies the dry paint film to a specially prepared aluminium surface.

Hardware can be powdercoated to match aluminium colour.

Our powdercoating finish complies with the Window Association of New Zealand (WANZ) Endurocolour Powder Coating Quality Standard, along with most other international specifications.

The innovative Smoothtech™ sill systems display a harmonious balance of performance and aesthetic. Careful selection of weather seals and rolling gear, allows an enhanced performance and almost frictionless rolling.

The bottom-rolling option maintains a low profile appearance via a discreet chevron up-stand. Its ability to evenly distribute panel weights prevents the flat spotting of tires allowing the smoothest slide.
