13 November 2013 Dear Parent/Carer It is with regret that I am writing to inform you that Mr Hoddle has resigned from his post, as Principal, for personal reasons. Mr Hoddle has been Principal since the school became Ryde Academy in September 2011, having previously been the Deputy Head and then becoming Acting Head at Ryde High School. He successfully led the school through a period of great change during and into the reorganisation of secondary education on the Island and the creation of our new Academy. I am sure that you will join me in expressing our sincere appreciation for Mr Hoddle's professionalism and commitment and wish him success and happiness for the future. The Governing Body will now agree an action plan with AET for the recruitment and appointment of a new Principal. In the meantime, Mrs Debbie Price continues to lead Ryde Academy in her Acting Principal role, supported by Dr Rory Fox as Executive Principal. Looking forward, we continue to progress in achieving the goals outlined in our post Ofsted action plan. We had an Ofsted monitoring inspection on the 16 October, and the report has just been published on the Ofsted website. A copy of the report can also be found on our website www.rydeacademy.org under the About Ustab. We are pleased to see that the report notes that we are taking effective actions to address all the key issues rapidly. The Inspector says that the Academy’s ethos is changing quickly, as are its core values” so that students say that bullying is now uncommonand behaviour in lessons and around the school is much better. We know that we still have further to go, in order to become the outstanding Academy which we plan to become, and I look forward to updating you further as we continue to make progress. Yours sincerely Lesley Holmes Chair of Governors
