What is the Fitness Frenzy? A month-long campaign to motivate you to stay active and fit while raising money for community nonprofit programs and the One Eighty Foundation. The Fitness Frenzy encourages everyone to team up for fitness. Grab your friends, your staff, your vendors, even the UPS driver to join in our efforts to raise money for the One Eighty Foundation. Raising money to improve the lives of children and families is the mission of the foundation, which was founded by Leisure Care CEO Dan Madsen. Anyone can participate in the Fitness Frenzy. All we need from you is a commitment to stay fit. Get all of the materials from your community and then set your physical and pledge goals. Whether it is walking, dancing, Wii Sports, sitting aerobics or team activities, track your active minutes per day. Then ask your family and friends to pledge money for your physical activity. It’s a fun way to be active and pay it forward to others. But, most of all, it’s just plain FUN! How much fun? In 2019, our employees and residents were active for 3,719,184 minutes and raised an impressive $46,720! The goal for the campaign this year is $65,000, approximately $1,250 per Leisure Care community. How do I get involved? Guest Speaker: Joyce Brizendine — Thursday, Feb. 6Joyce Brizendine is a certified handwriting analyst through both “The International Graphoanalysis Society” and the “American Handwriting Analysis Foundation.” She is trained to cite personality characteristics through one’s handwriting. Ms. Brizendine holds a Masters in Education and has taught handwriting analysis classes at both the university and community college levels. The area that Joyce enjoys the most is lecturing on handwriting analysis. For her lecture here at Russellville, she will be talking about “The Handwritings of the Presidents.” Be prepared to broaden your impressions of the presidents, from FDR to Donald Trump. See how their personality traits impacted their decisions. You just might change your perspective on them!

Russellville Adventure: The Portland Art Museum — Friday, Feb 21To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the great eruption of Mount St. Helens in 1980, the Portland Art Museum is proud to present an exhibition that examines artists’ responses to the awesome beauty and power of the volcano. For those who remember the eruption of 1980 and for those who know only its legacy, the exhibition will bring to life one of the most momentous days in the history of the Pacific Northwest and artists’ responses to one short period in the epic cycles of volcanic destruction and regeneration at Mount St. Helens.

Mardi Gras Parade — Tuesday, Feb. 25Each year during Mardi Gras, approximately 1.4 million visitors take to the streets of New Orleans to participate in the city’s iconic Fat Tuesday parades and festivities. The annual celebration of excess and indulgence is observed everywhere from Rio de Janeiro to Venice and even here at Russellville Park. Enjoy pan-fried catfish topped with creole sauce served with red beans and rice and see the staff parade through the restaurants for lunch while wearing masks and other Mardi Gras outfits.
