The Tracked Vehicle is a form language and model making project. I began by selecting a theme, 1930’s era automobiles, and exploring that design language through sketching. The physical model was built by “kit-bashing”, or assembling random parts and found objects from various sources.

The FACT Project is the ongoing project for Graduate Transportation Design program. It is a real-world examination of the problems surrounding transportation to and from the Art Center College of Design campus. A large amount of primary research was conducted through means such as expert and user interviews, user shadowing, experiential research, validation and test sessions.

We analyzed our research using various structures and schemas to aid in finding actionable insights.

All work for this project is done as a group, with team leaders selected for representative abilities. I have served as team lead for concept ideation, prototyping, and presentation to this point.

Because the FACT Project involves so much complex imformation and regular group meetings, rapid visual communication is important. This page contains examples of sketching and real-time, analog document creation, which has proven to be a valuable skill in this project.

As presentation lead for the FACT Project I have had a major role in the creation of graphics and presentation assets. I am also involved in the long-term planning of the project, laying out timeline and project goals for design and development.

At right are some example slides from my presentation layout. The graphics, gant chart planning, and system diagram mapping are examples of my own work as well.

Dimensional Classroom is a volunteer organization founded by myself and a former work colleague from Bright Innovation. Partnering with museums local to San Francisco, we teach children (and parents) of all ages about the basics of CAD modeling and 3D printing.

Bright Tools is an educational program to teach non-designers about the processes of design, marketing, and prototyping. Created for product development firm Bright Innovation, I had a lead role in this project and was responsible for all photography, graphic design, creation of the prototype kit, and took part in directing test sessions.

Artemide Digital Camera is a product design project from my study at Central Saint Martin’s in London. Project included user interaction study, demographic research, branding and form language. The final proposal outlines a digital camera design that is in keeping with Artemide’s core values as a brand.

The Dremel Rotary Tool Redesign was a short two-week design and modeling exercise. Ergonomics and functionality were considered before developing a sketch-model to represent the design and interaction.

Experimental Form as a way of studying interaction.

top left, this radio uses a simplified control scheme with only volume and tuning inputs. An allen key is magnetically stored in the back of the object, and inserted into front bolt heads to adjust inputs.

bottom left, a “comfort object” made to encourage holding by providing a pleasant tactile sensation.

top center, this clock projects light downward onto the desk to indicate time. It runs on a 24 hour cycle, projecting the brightest light in the middle of the night.

bottom center, an installation done during my internship with Icarus Furniture, the structure acts to concentrate sound at a point, allowing a person inside to hear sounds a long distance away

top right, a display case with felt appointments elevates the basic geometric objects to a pleasing, luxurious interaction

The Bajaj Worker’s Pack was a group design project, done in conjuction with Leeds Promotional Products. This project involved familiarization of lifestyle, brand, and use cases very foreign to us.

This project was done in a group of three, all work on this page is my own except the prototype (bottom center), which was crafted by a group member.

MASON Guitars and Amplification was a semester long studio project. The challenge was to create a brand and design a unified product line. Both guitar and amplifier are functional and were built from scratch (the amp electronics were wired from open source plans).

I have a large amount of experience in various physical modeling techniques, including clay modeling, foam core and paper modeling, woodworking. plastics molding and casting.

I also have experience in building fully functional objects, such as touch sensitive lamp, electric guitars, or 3D printer.
