What is Rumba?

The Rumba is a dance that tells a story of love and passion between a strong, male

lover and a coy, teasing woman

Full of sensual movements, the Rumba is considered by many to

be the sexiest of the ballroom dances.

"Rumba" is a term that refers to a variety of dances or a "dance

party."

Yumba, Guaguanco, and Columbia first appeared in Matanzas around the 1880's

The rumba formed by means of the forced disposition of slaves taken from various African nations and

placed in Cuba

• Rumba music has 4 beats per measure in a 4/4 time. 1 full step = 2 measures of music. Tempo usually ranges from 104 to 108 beats per minute.

Uses of Rhumba

Rumba is usually used in international dancing competitions and in slow rumba ballroom dancing. It is considered as one of the slowest of the five competitive Latin dances.

Rumba is also used in Africa as African style music. They use it in parties and social festivals in their culture.
