Roxar Weight Loss Coupons2" Retrievable System

Roxar Weight Loss Coupons correlate the corrosion rates on pipe walls by measuring the weight ofelements exposed to corrosion over a given period. Additionally, the effects of pitting, scaling, deposits, orbacteria can also be analyzed.

The Roxar Weight Loss Coupons have the following features:

■ Provide information on localized corrosion so the pitting rate can be quantified

■ Provide the preferred method for validating information provided by ER probes

■ Offer various types of metals for coupons to suit customer applications

■ Meet NACE specifications

■ Are a low cost investment

■ Are certified to show the serial number, weight (provided in grams to four decimal points precision),dimensions, and material type

Retrievable Weight Loss Coupons in processA Weight Loss Coupon consists of a weighed sample of metal (coupon) that is exposed to process and removed following a definedtime interval (usually 90 days). Upon retrieval, the coupon is cleaned and re-weighed.

The difference between initial weight and final weight, the exposure period and the surface area of the coupon are used to calculatethe corrosion rate.

Coupons can be used to:

■ Evaluate the corrosiveness of systems

■ Monitor the effectiveness of corrosion-mitigation programs

■ Tune process conditions

As a result, coupons results are linked to the corrosiveness of the system rather than to absolute metal loss on the pipe itself.

Types of Roxar Retrievable Weight Loss CouponsThere are three different types of Roxar Retrievable Weight Loss Coupons:

■ Disc Coupons are circular discs, often mounted flush with the pipe wall. Disc Coupons are typically installed at the 6 o’clockposition of horizontal pipes, where water is most likely to be present so the setup does not interfere with pigging operations.Insulators for Disc Coupons should be checked after the coupon is installed on its holder. Emerson recommends having spareinsulators always available in case replacement is needed.

■ Strip Coupons are rectangular plates which project into the monitored flow. Because of the larger surface, Strip Coupons arebetter suited for detecting and quantifying phenomena like pitting and grooving.The insulator’s sleeve works as a guide to make sure the strip coupons are well aligned towards the coupon holder. For thatreason, Strip Coupons are provided with insulators. ■ BIO Coupons are used for specific purposes, such as monitoring bacterial activity and the assessment of bio film.The BIO Coupon assembly consists of a housing with 5 coupons directly exposed to the internal environment in a pipe or vessel.
