Greetings to all members

National Rally 2016 The Otago Club have preparations well in hand for their 2016 Rally based in Oamaru for Easter 2016. They have sent out ear-ly details and more will follow. It sounds like they have a number of inter-esting and scenic places ready for us to visit. Based on a few comments that have been relayed to me, here are a couple of suggestions for the 2016 Rally. Could we have feedback on these:

It has been suggested that the Rally could be lengthened from the cur-rent format of 3 days, especially for the North Island contingent who will be taking two days to travel to Oamaru. Many of us already combine the Rally with a holiday anyway. But could we have a “mini rally” beforehand? We could meet in Blenheim on the Tuesday or Wednesday as all of the North Island cars will be coming off the ferry, then arrange a group tour that would arrive in Oamaru on the Friday. The Otago Club did this for the Nel-son Rally and had a great time.

As the SD1 turns 40 next year, could we have a focus on this model at the Rally. Many of us from the North Island own a number of different models, should we take the SD1 rather than a P series for the 2016 Rally? Could we persuade Allan Scott (SD1 book author and owner of a Bastos Racing SD1) to attend as a special guest?

National Rally 2017 As preparations will need to commence soon for this event, has there been any feedback on likely attendance for a 2017 North Island Rally in the Hawkes’ Bay in March 2017? This was suggested in part due to feedback from the South Island Clubs whose members sug-gested that they found North Island roads too busy for them. The Hawkes’ Bay will have quiet roads that would be enjoyed. The Waikato and Tarana-ki Clubs will need to make a start on organising this event soon, so feed-back on likely attendance would be appreciated.

Newsletter number three

Australian National Rally 2016 The Australian National Rally is due to be held on 14-17

th October 2016 in Busselton in Western Australia. As this

doesn’t clash with any NZ Nationals, some members might wish to attend. I’ve sent details on this Rally to all clubs to distribute to their members. I’ve registered for this event already, so will receive all info on this event.

Car Valuation guide. Any further comments on this guide?

ARCC Website The website is now operating well, any suggestions for improvement would be appreciated.

Manawatu Club I’ve heard from Val at the Manawatu Rover Club. They’ve had a couple of issues this year with their committee, but are now back on track and want to remain in the ARCC. They unfortunately missed the cut off date for the Insurance and FOMC forms this year, but will receive all newsletters and will return officially to the ARCC next year.

Liability Insurance The feedback to date from Auckland, Waikato and Can-terbury Clubs is to retain the status quo regarding club setup and insur-ance. Feedback from Nelson was a possible yes to a partial amalgamation of the Regional Clubs into one National Club (for insurance purposes), with regional branches, but with reservations and provisos. Any further comments from the other Clubs? Due to the way that the insurance is now calculated, this would require all Clubs to pay the insurance portion of the ARCC levy. This would mean that the ARCC subs for next year would be $5 per member for all Clubs as discussed at the AGM. This increase is to cover the additional insurance cost.

Health & Safety The FOMC continue to maintain a watching brief on this issue. They will keep us informed of progress, but it will involve some input from the various committees to ensure we have all of the necessary forms completed for any Club event.

SD1 turns 40 in 2016 There has been some discussion between the Auck-land, Waikato and Bay of Plenty Clubs regarding having a special event to mark 40 years of the Rover SD1 in 2016. This could either be at the Na-tional Rally, or a separate event. There was also a suggestion for a special grille badge to mark the occasion. As the SD1 doesn’t have a grille, possi-bly a mounting on the bumper plinth adjacent to the number plate? Com-ments on this idea please, plus an indication of likely numbers, should we decide to proceed with this.

Kind regards, David Raven, National Secretary.
