David English informed the club of the role the Civil Air Patrol plays in this and other communities. Started in 1941 as a support during natural disasters and other emergencies, the Civil Air Patrol plays a vital role in helping during emergencies and relief areas. He shared with us of the huge pilot shortage in this country and the Air Patrol is trying to promote and encourage youth to choose aviation as a career by establishing events such as Youth Aviation Day. He asks young participants “Do you want to play the game (video) or do you want to live your dream?” October 3 rd Meeting Recap the The Newsletter of the St. Simons Rotary St. Simons Island, Georgia 31522 St OCTOBER 10, 2017 At the Podium October 17 Maggie Crips GRSP Presentation October 24 Polio Initiative Meet the Member October 31 Entrepreneurship Partnering with Local Schools Rotary Spray Volume 17 Number 33 Update on Glynn Co. SSI ROTARY “OUTREACH”

Our Club along with the other Glynn County Clubs is working with MAP International to get meds to local clinics (non-profit) like CMAP. Donations are needed to help MAP support local needs. Also, Leslie Mattingly, who along with her husband Mack, have been working with outreach to needs in Puerto Rico, is encouraging those who wish to donate to the relief efforts in Puerto Rico to do so through MAP. They are providing Disaster Relief Bags which is #1 on their needs list. Speaking of that, several of our club members went to MAP on Friday morning to help assemble these Relief Bags. Thanks go to Fred & Alice Barlow, Bob Brown, Ralph & Barbara Brush, Sonny Doehring, Mike& Lucia Gumaer and guests, Leon Jorgensen, Jim Kielt, Vernon Martin, David Meskell, Ann Nermoe, Gary & Beth Schwartz, Beth Smith & Mickey, and the Rotaract students.

“We’re This Close…” World Polio Day is coming up to celebrate coming so very close to eliminate Polio.
