JOKE OF THE MONTH—-

A nursery school teacher was delivering a station wagon full of kids home one day when a fire truck zoomed past. Sitting in

the front seat of the fire truck was a Dalmation dog.

The children started discussing what the dog's duties might be.

"They use him to keep crowds back," said one youngster.

"No," said another, "he's just for good luck."

A third child concluded. "No silly, they use the dogs to find the fire

hydrant!"

Building Schools to Change Lives By Ashley Sullivan

What does it take to make a difference in a child’s life? If you ask Rob and Jeanine Lupisella,

they will probably tell you that building them a sturdy school will do the trick. This February,

they came back with their two daughters, Elise and Caroline, and their son and his girlfriend to

build a one-room schoolhouse in the Ocotal community of La Flor. They were energized by the success of the Las Minitas school construction project in 2012 and decided to embark on another fundraising and building project in another Ocotal community.

Rotarians honored as Champions of Change and their guests listen to RI President Sakuji Tanaka during a reception 4 April.

Twelve U.S. Rotarians were honored at the White House on 5 April as Champions of Change for their efforts to improve communities locally and around the world.

As part of the daylong event, more than 160 Rotarians attended a morning round of briefings by government officials on topics including polio eradication, health, violence prevention, and the environment.

“It is a great honor to see these dedicated Rotary members recognized by the U.S. White House as Champions of Change for their work to improve the lives of people around the world,” said RI President Sakuji Tanaka.

Tanaka said the honorees exemplify how Rotary

brings people together to solve problems that are

too large for one person to tackle.

“Alone, we look at the problems of our commu-

nity and our world and we feel helpless,” he said. “But together, we are powerful. And through Rotary, we have

the power to change our communities and communities throughout the world -- now and into the future. We

have the ability to build the world we dream of: one that is healthier, happier, and with hope for better things to

come.”

The 2013 Champion of Change honorees are: Tom Barnes, Bob Dietrick, John Germ, Peggy Halderman,

Nancy Hughes, Walter Hughes, Jr., Ann Hussey, Jeremiah Lowney, Jr., Douglas McNeil, Harriet

Schloer, Bonnie Sirower and Neli Vazquez-Rowland.
