Rotaract is a member of the Rotary International family and is a program dedicated to young people aged 18 to 30. It was officially inaugurated in January 1968, the 1st charted club being Rotaract North Charlotte, North Carolina, USA (on the 13th of March 1968). Later on, this program was embraced by all the countries that are members of Rotary International.
The Rotaract name comes from the fusion of the words ”Rotary” and “Action”.
The Rotary Clubs are the supporters of the Rotaractian movement, out of their wish of persuading the youngsters to focus their attention on positive activities, dedicated to the community service. So it is wished that through the Rotaract program, the young get to improve their personal knowledge and abilities as to help the development of the communities that they are part of; this way, they contribute in an active way to the solving of social and material problems, promoting the good understanding and the peace, all realized through friendship and cooperation.

THE ROTARACT CLUB Cluj Napoca was founded in December 1994, by 22 members, under the patronage of Cluj Napoca Rotary Club. Its status as a club was acknowledged on the 17th of May 1995, when it was also charted by the 1660 District Governor of the time, Mr Jacques Verrier. The Rotaract Club is a promoter of the Rotarian principles, namely:
• Raising one's respect towards human rights; • The admission of any profession as an important instrument for the community service; • Encouraging the application, acceptance and promotion of common-sense rules, during the practice of any
profession, whatsoever; • Encouraging the best understanding of community’s problems and needs, as well as the global problems.

The Cluj Napoca Rotaract Club is the upholder of different activities that need to ensure the community welfare, as well as the promoter of world peace and understanding. The founding members’ enthusiasm, proven through their actions of promoting these principles, made other young people join their mission. The club projects, have and are still aiming at:
• Assisting orphans and the elderly from various care homes • Repairing certain hospital parts, and classrooms from rural schools. • Building a mountain hut, close to the Scarisoara glacier. • Offering gifts at the beginning of the school year, on Christmas or Easter • Taking trips to foreign Rotaract and Rotary clubs(Germany, England, America) • Mutual projects with Rotary Cluj Club, as well as taking part in different social events • Fundraising parties, or raffles, for charity • Eco projects, focusing on waste collection from green urban spaces

The Rotaract Club Cluj-Napoca is also a promoter of a familiarity friendship and trust among the club members, in order the have a close-knit group which gives the possibility of obtaining methods and models necessary to the members’ personal development.

The Rotaract Club Cluj –Napoca has an effective of 25 members. Besides these ones, there are 2 members that are no longer actives (they have an year for break, due to personal priorities) 2 members that are transferred from other clubs and 3 passive honorary members, as a result of their previous contribution to the Club.
In the next table, are presented the diversified professions of the club members. Out of 25, 16 are already active in their professional field, the rest, being students.

Out of the 25 actual members, 12 are girls and 13 boys, so there is a balance regarding the sex distribution of the club members.

December 1994 Visit at the Cluj Napoca foster home for the elderly- we offered gifts and sang Christmas carols.
May 1995 The receiving of the Charta from the Governor of the 1660 District- this meant the official acknowledge of the Rotaract Club.
July 1995 Trip to the Apuseni Mountains, including the visit of one of best known cave in Romania, Scarisoara Cave. The real purpose of this trip was the transportation of food, clothing and medicines to the inhabitants of isolated villages in the mountains.
September 1995 Party with ROTARY Club
February 1996 Common project with Rotary Club, namely a film slide presentation of live and work of Salvador Dali.
May 1996 Visit at the Rotary Club in Siemmern, Germany.
June 1996 Two weeks’ visit of 3 Rotaract members to the Rotary Club from Elgin and Rotaract Club from Ellen, where a common project was discussed, a support project regarding the Cluj Clinic for Dystrophic patients.
September 1996 Organization of a fund rising tombola.
November 1996 Excursie de 2 zile a membrilor clubului in Muntii Apuseni.
December 1996 Visit to the Oncology Clinic to bring presents to children-patients
May1997 1 week visit of Mr. Lester Hearnden on behalf of Rotary Elgin, Scotland. His major 3 points of interest were the visits to 3 hospitals in Cluj, with the purpose of repairing one of them, as well as the visit to the surroundings of Cluj.
April 1997 the visit of Rotaract friends from Nantes, France, that were hosted in our homes. The objective of their visit was to offer PC TO Babes-
Bolyai University in Cluj..
July 1997 Meeting on the occasion of our colleague’s debut into the artistic, jazz world, Ms Codruta Zdrenghea, this meeting having as a result a
fund rising.

July 1997 Organization of classes of Scottish dances, taking advantage of the
visit of some Rotaract Aberdeen members, passing by Cluj.
October 1997 The visit of Rotaract Club Ellen, Scotland. Again our guest were hosted in our homes. Their program here included the visit of Cluj and other places from Transylvania, as well as the visit to the orphanage from Gherla (the children were offered sweets and other presents).Our Scottish friends visited Nicula Monastery and their workshop of religious pictures.
February 1998 The renewal of the Clinic for the Dystrophic patients, a project in which 3 clubs got involved: Rotaract Cluj NApoca, Rotary Elgin, Scotland and Rotary Eisenach Germany. During this project, the Rotaract members painted children- patients’ cribs, as well as windows and doors, they renewed the floor in the hospital and repaired pieces of furniture.
April 1998 Meetings with other non-profit organizations, for instance “The Excelsior Foundation” and OSM (Organization for the Students at the
Medical School).
July 1998 Trip to the Apuseni Mountains, including the visit to “Groapa
Ruginoasa".
August 1998 Trip on Vaser Valley, along with Rotaract Baia Mare.
October 1998 Mr. Jorg Tschopp’s visit, the elected governor for 2000 of the Rotary
District.
October 1998 Party with members of Rotary Glarus, Germany, Switzerland. This meeting had as a starting point a fundraising from the selling of paintings created by Romanian artists, with the purpose of rebuilding
the Scarisoara Hut..
November 1998 Trip to the Apuseni Mountains along with Rotary Clubs from Cluj and Baia Mare.
December 1998 Fundraising with Rotary Cluj Napoca.
December 1998 Visit at the Oncology Institute with presents for hospitalized children
January 1999 Re-iteration of the monthly visits at each club member’s place.
February 1999 The visit of 2 young people from Holland, the presented the concept

April 1999 Mr. Kopiski’s visit and radio interviews about the young generation
in Romania.
May 1999 Meeting with Rotary Club members, Pecs, Hungary.
May 1999 Official announcement , during the National Rotary Conference, of the 1st National Rotaract Conference at Cluj.
May 1999 The donation of medical instruments used in emergencies to the Clinic for Dystrophic patients; this project was shared with the Soroptimist Club from Scotland.
June 1999 The endowment with computers of science center of the School for Children with Sight Deficiencies from Cluj, this being the result of the cooperation with Rotary Club Elgin. This center included a network of 6 PC that used voice amplifier and Internet access (the most important project realized by that time). This project was
sponsored by Rotary Elgin with 10.000 $.
August 1999 Two weeks’ trip of some Cluj Rotaract members to Bavaria, Germany.
September 1999 ROTARACT Club CLUJ NAPOCA organized the 1st National Rotaract
Conference, the 1st held in Romania.
September 1999 Romanian painting exhibition in Switzerland , with the help of Glarus Rotary Club, in order to fundraise for the re-built of the
Scarisoara Glacier hut.
October 1999 We hosted 6 members of Rotary Club Elgin: their purpose in Cluj was to evaluate the common project From the School for Children with Sight Deficiencies.
November 1999 Rotaract Club offered “shoe boxes” full of surprises, for 7000
children. These boxes were gifts from our Scottish friends.
December 1999 Visit to offer gifts to the children from Cluj with different types of deficiencies.
May 2000 Rotaract National Conference.

religious holiday.
April 2002 Fundraising- charity concert, a project realized with the collaboration of Rotaract Konstantz. Rotaract club repaired the

December 2005 Charity project: “Together we can create a library”. This project was developed with the partnership of the Students from the Business Association , International School of Cluj and the Students’ Council from Cluj Napoca. Between November 22nd and 16th of December 2005 we collected more than 1897 books. On the 22nd of December the children from the Oncology Hospital received a library with more than 800 books. On the 23rd of December the children from Ciubuncuta village, Cluj County, received a library with more than 400 volumes.

July 2006 With the help of the ST Mary Day Care Center (it works with
persons suffering from neurological and psychological deficiencies ) the Rotaract members played a friendly football match with the patients. This way a smile was brought to the faces of those care by this center ,and future partnership were being built that day.
September 2006 School supplies for everybody! Every year, at the beginning of the school year , Rotaract Club donates fully equipped school bags for those in need. The pupils come from poor families with many children. This way, the club hopes to inspire the poor students, to make them believe that through school , children can become fulfilled adults.
December 2006 Awards for the top performer students. In order to stimulate and encourage the performance of the students from Cluj , the Rotary Club Cluj along with Rotaract and the Regional Center for Excellence in Cluj, initiated a project of awarding the best students. In a fatuous ceremony at the University House in Cluj, 10 students were awarded for their excellent results in education. Their selection was the result of the exceptional performance in school as well as in national and international competitions.
December 2006 Charity project: “Together we can create a library”. This project was developed with the partnership of the Students from the Business Association , International School of Cluj, the Students’ Council from Cluj Napoca and Leo Club . This time the project was enlarged so the result was 3 libraries instead of 2. on the 19th of December, the children from Ceaba received more than 400 books and toys. The toys were a donation from the students of the International School of Cluj.
On the 20th of December , at 12.00 o’clock the library from Rasca village was inaugurated .This library means more than 1000 volumes; most of them are the donation of Universt T.
On the 21st of December , at 12.00 o’clock the library from Caianu village was inaugurated the students from this village received at their turn more than 1000 volumes (novels, short stories, exercise books, encyclopedias etc) We, as young persons, believe that books must me one of the most important resources. Through books, we create and develop ourselves. Through this program we try to offer a childhood and a youth in which popular literary characters must play a significant part. The donated books that were not fit for the kids age (6 to 16) were donated to the old persons from Manastur Day Care Center for the Elderly .

April 2007 Rotaract Club organized, along with the local Rotary Clubs , the Rotaract National District Conference , where 200 guests from all over the District 2241 shared ideas and created the proper basis for
future common projects..

May 2007 Our club offered its support in the organization of the ceremony through which the Rotary Club Blaj was charted .
September 2007-May 2008 Our members sponsored the initiative of the students from Social Assistance Faculty that through this period , offered support at their turn to the children with severe mental deficiencies from Jucu Hospital. The club offered transportation (for 15-20 visit of these
students) and donations in food and school supplies.
October 2007 Rotaract Club Cluj took part at the chartering ceremony of Rotaract Zalau , as the newly founded club’s godfather
October 2007 Re-evaluation of the Internal Regulations of the Club
November 2007 Our club offered its support in the organization of the ceremony through which the Rotary Club Cetatuie was charted .
December 2007 Lets prevent cancer. Our club was the organizer of a charity concert that took place at Iulius Mall in Cluj Napoca. Its purpose was a fundraising for The Romania Society for Cancer , to support its
campaigns of preventing this disease as well as treating patients.
December 2007 Rotaract Santa Claus. Our club makes sure that before Christmas, families in need receive presents and foods, this way, trying bring joy on the occasion of this religious holiday. Together with different partners we bought basic ailments, to make sure that a rich meal is

December 2007 Our Club signed a union document along with Rotaract Curtea
Domneasca Iasi, our Club friend.
March 2008 Musical March. We organized inside the Ethnographic Museum a concert of classic music with the aim of sponsoring young musicians. This Musical March took place due to the help of our artist friends

On the ocasion of the Cluj Napoca Rally, -Mobil 1, Rotaract Club Cluj Napoca organized a charity drug donation for children suffering from asthma.

For each special race that the 421 crew finished - the crew being Dinu Dumitrascu and Radu Popovici (they finished the race on the 3rd place, in H group, 3rd class)- useful medicines were donated to very young asthmatic patients. The two competitors’ car race, a Ford K Rally, was decorated with the emblem of the Rotaract Club.

“ the event that took place in the weekend 21-22 June, is seen as one of the most spectacular and technical stage of the National Rally Championship. “We are extremely happy that for this race we had the Rotaract Club as a partner. We are honored that each special stage that we finished is a help for the ones in need. We decided to tackle this race with caution, without taking useless risks, as to have the chance to get to the finish line for all special laps. In the end of the race everything was ok and very important, we had the chance of giving a good helpful hand to the children suffering of asthma”, said Dr Dinu Dumitrascu, the pilot.

On June 16, inside the Ethnographic Museum of Transylvania was the music concert , suggestively titled Mondo dei Giovani. The musicians which were invited : John Storojenco, Dunca Radu, Andrei Ciobanu, Miron Cora, and the quartet formed by Rares Muntiu, Erol Gabor, Mihai Osvat, Ovidiu Marc. Money obtained from the sale of invitations and donations have been targeted to the elderly which are unable to leave their home. A number of 20 elderly patients received a little help from young people.

dance, events held in the workshops of traditional painting on wood, glass or gypsum, popular music, and modeling of traditional
weaving and a series of competitions, outdoor activities and camp fire.

During 19.12.2008 - 22.12.2008 Rotaract and Real Hypermarket - have organized a donation campaign of food at the store. At the table which was positioned in front of the cash registers the customers could donate money or products for the needy people identified by the Rotaract Club. Due to this action 10 packages were made together that were donated as follows: 6 packages were donated to youth named by The Caritas Foundation, and 4 packages were distributed to 4 big families from Cluj.

In the future, we want to attract new valuable people in the Rotaract Club Cluj-Napoca which, together with existing members, to increase the number of activities and projects carried out successfully. Also aims to promote the club locally,in the community, but also by national and international level, by involving in collaborations with other Rotaract Clubs in the country and abroad.

• Continue collaboration with children at the School of Informatics « Tiberiu Popovici »
• Continue implementation of the " Therapy through Art " at the School for the Hearing Deficiency
• Implementation of the summer practice for medical students
• Implementing a program in partnership with the Rotaract Club Westminster, London
• Organize "Olympics Spring" Rotaract - various sporting competitions (with the aim of "team building")
with the Rotaract Clubs in the country with the goal of promoting outdoor activities among young people

In April and May we will also attend at the International Conference of Rotaract Clubs in Europe, EUCO 2009,
organized in Istanbul and the Rotaract District Conference, District 2241, Romania and Moldova at Timisoara.
