We truly are a place where everyone knows your name and they’re glad you came!

The Rotary year 2015-2016 will start off with our first social of the year at the home of member Rich Zegar on Saturday July 4th. Did you go last year? Will you be coming this year? This is our celebration of freedom and independence so what better way to celebrate than with our friends in Rotary. The DG Citation for 2015-2016 has a MANDATORY fun requirement to hold 10 “fun” events outside regular meetings which must be attended by 20% of the members (in our case about 11 members). Our first regular meeting of the year will be July 6th. The guest speaker that evening will be Garret Zakahi, principal of Jefferson Elementary School. BIOGRAPHYof Jim Hoban, President

Father of 5, Grandpa to 4.5, married for 46 years, a Rotarian since 1989, Jim will serve as President of Sunset Rotary for the second time - the 2015-16 Rotary year.  He was President of the Rotary Club of Pearlridge twenty years ago.

Jim comes from a Rotary family - he sponsored Beth to the Rotary Club of Honolulu Sunset and his #2 son, Sean, is a charter member of the Rotary Club of Pau Hana.  Last May, Jim and Beth co-chaired the District 5000 Conference for the third time.  Yes, Jim believes in “repeats!”

When not in Rotary, Jim is a Cantor for the 11:30 Mass every Sunday at St. Ann’s Church in Kaneohe.  For twenty years he has served as Choir Director during the Easter and Christmas holidays.

Born in Chicago, Jim is a loyal Bears fan and a die-hard Cubs fan.   However, the cold and snow drove Jim and his family away and lured them to Hawaii in 1973.

Jim and Beth own a licensed, Medicare-certified home healthcare agency, which was established in 1994.  Working and living Rotary together makes them happy, healthy and wise!

From the São Paulo Rotary ConventionIn a video shown at the June 8 convention, Bill Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates

Foundation, congratulated Rotary on its unwavering commitment to eradicating polio. Also at the convention, Dr. Hamid Jafari, director of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative for the World

Health Organization spoke, saying, “With a year of no polio cases in Nigeria tantalizingly close, and no cases in Somalia since August, the tireless work of so many people across the continent is paying off, but it is incredibly important that Nigeria remain vigilant. As long as polio exists anywhere, it will continue to be a threat everywhere.” Transmission of the wild poliovirus has also never been stopped in Afghanistan and Pakistan. In 2014, 85 percent of the polio cases worldwide were in Pakistan, the country’s highest case count in over a decade. But progress has been made over the last few months to stem the spread of the virus. The focus for the government and all of the polio partners has shifted to missed children. Vaccinators have gained

access to areas that have been out of reach for years, said Jafari. He encouraged attendees to stay committed. “I need you to continue to advocate and engage with your political leaders with that strong, influential Rotary voice, so that all of our stakeholders continue to commit to funding the final stages.
