Notes from Rotary Meeting Thursday 30th

March 2017 (Thanks to scribe Mary A)

Ben Gower CEO WRC

Ben gave us an overview of his first 12 months and said how much he enjoys the lifestyle and the area. His talk focussed on the economics of the region and took us through all the great developments in our region eg. Mayurra Station – selling their steak for $1000 per kgm Holla Fresh - with their expansions and innovative approach to business, their large employee workforce and the fact that they are supplying both of the large supermarkets (Coles & Woolies) Coonawarra wines – with million dollar Chinese investments and exports Portland Harbour – the largest wood chip port in the world right on our doorstep, crying out for us to value add to our exports Milk Factories – Both Midfield and Blue Lake Dairies looking like they are going to be long term players in the area attracting export markets for our dairy industries Andy Roberts and Family with the Braes Also on the evening Andy Roberts an ex student exchange participant gave us a run down on what he has been up to over the last 20 years. Gave us lots of memories of his time at Millicent including sheep shear-ing at Bill Cull’s, fishing with Ken Haines and on the farm with John Buhlmann. He shared photos and memories with members. Andy was accompanied by his wife Rachel and 2 daughters Grace and Maya. Also present were Mark and Lisa Braes who hosted Andy while he was in Millicent.

Home milk deliveries still happen in some areas we have been told, but

the' older brigade' will no doubt recall both milk and bread had regular

home deliveries.

** Dear milkman: I've just had a baby, please leave another one.

**Please leave an extra pint of paralysed milk.

**Cancel one pint after the day after today.

** Please don't leave any more milk. All they do is drink it.

** Milkman, please close the gate behind you because the birds keep

pecking the tops off the milk.

**Milkman, please could I have a loaf but not bread today.

**Please cancel milk. I have nothing coming into the house but two

sons on the dole.

** Sorry not to have paid your bill before, but my wife had a baby and

I've been carrying it around in my pocket for weeks.
