It was Great to see you Tom...All the Best... Introduction of Guests: Rich Hale introduced Gladys Standard, Coordinator of the Sayonara Community Center...Welcome Gladys... Rich Hale introduced Sabrina Roth, from the Interleukin Club of Switzerland and our Rotary Youth Exchange student, currently attending Mesa Verde High School...Welcome Sabrina... Rich Hale introduced his lovely wife Laurie...Welcome Laurie... Diane Riehle introduced her granddaughter Presley Moses...Welcome Presley... Membership Minute: Diane reported that there are several members not attending... They are being contacted as to their status... Diane was happy to report that Sunrise Marketplace will continue as Corporate Members... There will be a Fire Side Chat & BBQ at the Riehle Residence. The date has not yet been set, so stay tuned... There is also the need to personally contact those members that have missed meetings to see how they are doing...Special Thanks to Diane Riehle for leading our efforts in Membership... Vocational Minute: Drew Bauer, Owner of Bauer Car Wash, located at 5927 San Juan Ave in Citrus Heights, CA 95610...Drew described his business as a Full Service Car Wash and Detail Center with a Gift Shop. Attractive Car Wash Package and Detail packages are available. There is a Small Gift Shop with sodas and snacks and nice waiting areas both inside and outside (in the shade)...Drew can be reached at (916) 967-3083... Give him a call and make an appointment or just drop in unannounced... Drew described the special auto detailing that is also available to really bring that shine back...Drew was proud to report that their process is 100% Green, using only 15 gallons of water per vehicle... The Bauer family has owned the Car Wash for 16 years and welcomes you continued support... Thanks Drew... PS: The Bauer Car Wash cleaned our Sayonara bus for the Dedication Ceremony last Wednesday...

Raley’s Gift Cards: Jack Duncan announced that there were no club winners this week...How it Works: Our Rotary Club & Soroptimist of Historic Auburn are partnering again this year to sponsor this 52 week Gift Card Giveaway… Each ticket holder will be eligible for a weekly drawing for 52 weeks, beginning July 4, 2012 to June 26, 2013. The winner of each drawing receives a gift card in the amount of $100 to use at Raley’s, Bell Air and Nob Hill… Each ticket purchased qualifies for all 52 drawings, so don’t lose them. Tickets are $20 each and have been distributed to the club...Jack has two winning tickets, but the Rotarians who have the tickets have not turned in their funds yet... Jack reported that he has a winning ticket but it has not been purchased yet... Club Foundation: Rich Hale reminded us that Mini Grant Applications are available on our website, so when you see the need, complete the application and submit to Rich Hale... Thanks Rich... Citrus Heights Rotary Anniversary Dinner: Rich Hale reported that our 50th Anniversary Dinner will be combined with the Demotion Dinner on Saturday, June 22, 2014 from 6:30 – 10:30 PM at the LionsGate Inn on McClellan Industrial Park (The Old Officers Club)... The Theme is 1960’s and will feature a martini bar and cigar smoking...with Period Dress encouraged...Projections are upwards of 150 people in attendance...PLEASE let Jessica know of any former or past members so they can invited...Stay Tuned for Updates... Special Entertainment by the Dean O-Haulics and the Rat Pack... Very Cool Stuff.. Please use the website to sign up...

Pancake Breakfast: Gail Moxley passed out and e-mailed signup sheets for the pancake breakfast as we Come and celebrate Community with The Citrus Heights Red, White and Blue Parade! Floats, Marchers, Animal Groups, and Classic Cars are the stage along Sunrise Blvd on June 28. During and after the parade, a carnival is hosted by Sunrise Mall in the parking lot, along with other family friendly activities!... Jack Duncan indicated that support for the parade is not as strong as in previous years, so if you are aware of anyone wanting to participate, please contact Jack ASAP... Gail indicated that we may serve as many as 500 people this year and we will need an all hands effort... Thanks to Gail and Jack... PS: Float Repairs are needed again this year... contact Jack Duncan for when and where... We need more volunteers and proceeds from ticket sales... Thanks Gail... Website Update Request: Gail Moxley requested that each member review their profile information that is currently on the club website. Sayonara Bus Dedication Ceremony: Rich Hale reported the huge success of the dedication ceremony for the Sayonara Community Center Bus earlier this morning... This vehicle will meet the transportation needs of the 100+ children that participate in various youth programs throughout the area...

Business Boot Camp: Reminder that the Chamber is sponsoring a business boot camp on June 23 – 25 at the Citrus Heights Community Center...The purpose is to provide the tools needed to help small businesses succeed within our City... The camp is FREE to the first 25 people... More details are available on the Chamber website... Thanks Christy... New San Juan High School Centennial Celebration: Reminder that the NSJHS Graduating Class of 2014 will be the 100th Graduating Class... She is in charge of fundraising to provide these graduates a Graduation Night at Great America in San Jose...The Goal is to raise $10K and Christy reported that they are half way there... Now is an opportunity to provide a special moment in the life of these students that they would not normally be able to afford...Contact Christy for further details...

Rich Hale spun $12 in recognition of the Sayonara Bus Dedication... Ray Riehle spun $15 in celebration of being married to Diane (Their First Year) & for the retirement of his Brother from the Army (Full Colonel)... Bob Churchill spun $?? In celebration of the Oregon State Women’s Softball Team Outstanding Season... We All Sang Happy Birthday to John and Doyle... Fine Master: Doyle Phelan issued the following fines: Diane Riehle fined $1 for failure to introduce our RYE Student Sabrina, who was sitting right next to her... Charlie McComish fined $1 for being Late... Rich Hale fined $2 for not voting... Gail Moxley fined $5 for buying new member badges with the names misspelled...(Fernandez instead of Hernandez) Miss Gladys Standard, Coordinator of the Sayonara Community Center came forward to thank the club for providing the Sayonara Bus that will provide much needed transportation for field trips this summer...The Center is operated by volunteers with funding from the City of Citrus Heights and private donations... the Sayonara Community Center after-school program serves mostly low-income kids who live on and around Sayonara Drive. Students receive help with homework, afternoon snacks and a free backpack filled with school supplies at the start of the school year. Gladys explained that this summer will be filled with Field Trips each week, Sports Camps in the Morning, Summer Festival and the new Sayonara Bus will really make the difference... Gladys spoke about the 100 plus children that frequent the Center that provides a safe place for them... The Center even keeps track of student report cards...Gladys has over 50 volunteers and can always use more, Especially Bus Drivers... She explained that most of the children now come from a 1 mile radius of Sayonara and some families have moved back because of the Community Center Services... She spoke about giving gifts to single moms this past Mother’s Day... Very Touching experience... David Luie, Sayonara Community Center Board Member, spoke about the positive impact being made on lives in our community and thanked the club for their generosity. Thank You Gladys and David... Program: Bill Van Duker shared some of his life experiences, especially during the turbulent 60’s in Berkley, CA... Bill described himself as a Depression Baby... He was in the Army from 1959-61 stationed at the Dugway Proving Grounds in Utah where they tested biological and chemical weapons... After the Army, Bill wound up in San Francisco, living in the Castro District...He moved to Berkley in 1964 and experienced the turmoil of the Civil Rights Movement...Bill explained that the Free Speech Movement originated in Berkley where Original Sit Ins and other demonstrations occurred...Bill married Janie in 1966 and they both experienced the Flower Children Movement in 1967 when the California Educational System was in Turmoil...Bill told stories of caring for homeless young people that just came to the Bay Area to be a part of it all... He spoke about the assignations of our leaders during the 60s’, President Kennedy, Martin Luther King & Bobby Kennedy. This cub reporter was focused more on what Bill was saying and less on writing it all down, so If you want to know about the turbulent times of the 1960’s in Berkley and San Francisco, take a moment and just ask Old Bill...
